About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

To bad it’s closing and last day of play is this Sunday 10/7/18
The course played great I hate to see it go. It was always a good option for afternoon play. Last day of play is this Sunday 10/7/18.
Great little course; sorry to hear it’s closing.
Great overall value. I’ll be back for as long as they stay open.
Grounds keeper
The grounds keeper pick a fight with the golfer I was paired with and came back 3 times and for no reason that I could tell tossed him out so I ended playing by myself. Not sure what took place other then it was something about getting a good review. I found the course to be in great shape and will return.
Good Value for the Money
The greens are in great shape given that it is the middle of summer, but the bunkers could certainly use more sand. This is not a difficult course, wish that the county would have kept it for the residents.
Okay course for change of pace...
The course is in ok shape. The staff was courteous and helpful. This must have been a nice course years ago, unfortunately, it appears to be dying a slow death. The cart paths are rough and some of the greens pretty rough.
Another Gem Becomes Housing
This was the oldest course in Forsyth County and a classic old school layout where you had to have skill vs just bomb it out there. The 18th especially was a gem. Sadly, on Oct 7 2018 they will close and on the 8th developer bulldozers will turn sod into housing.
Just OK
The course isn't bad and is in rather good shape. There was no beverage cart driving around. This is the second time I've played there, the first was extremely oversold. This time they tried to raise the price to a holiday rate from the Golf Now price we had reserved. Just really poorly run. I guess that's why it will be closing down.
Hard to beat for $35
Relatively short course, moderately easy but for $35, its difficult to beat. Greens and fairways in pretty good shape, bunkers are horrible.
This course needs TLC!
The green was in pretty good condition, but other than that the course needs TLC. Played for hot deal for $18! Would not paid more! If they take care the tee box and fairway course would be worth to play!
Worst staff ever!!!!!!
The course is on crap state with the exception of the greens. The front desk staff said that if I booked through Golf Now they have our money we don’t get anything when I inquired about my son not being able to make the round. Secondly, when I went to go get a bottle of water, which I had to pull from the front facing refrigerator, the person manning the counter said $5 min. I then picked another item to being the total to $5. He then said $5.75 for a total. I said how did that happen. He said with tip it’s $5.75 then said but I guess that ain’t happening.
The people at this place are the most unhappy and disagreeable bunch I have ever experienced in over 30 years of golf. The worst!!!!!!!
Friendliest golf staff in the area
Friendliest golf staff in the area, And they made me and my service dog feel at home… The course is very challenging, and the pace was very fast… We always enjoy coming to Lanier!!
DO NOT PLAY
I am extremely unsatisfied with my experience at Lanier Golf Club. The clubhouse employee and a landscaping crew member were extremely rude and unprofessional. I was the first one on the course and I played solo because the other group teeing of at 8am asked me to go ahead. I got to the 9th hole and the landscaping member accused me of starting early and told me if I was on number 10s green when he started to cut he would not stop for me.I asked the landscaping member why the employees here had an attitude and he responded with, " If you don't like it you can play somewhere else". I am taking that to heart and I will never return to this course. I was approached later by the superintendent, Jim, who listed to what I told him, treated me with respect, and said he would speak with the other employees. If I were you I wouldn't waste my time with a group of employees that make you feel like you are not meant to be there even though you are a paying customer.
