Quality inexpensive option on Jekyll
Got hot deal for this course and was happy with outcome. Nice fairways and greens.
Great 9 hole with cart value
Great setting. True challenging yet forgiving 9 holes. Ocean breeze and island setting makes this a great year round treat for the whole family.
Nine hole jewell
I have played this course 4 times in the last 4 months. It is a trip back in time. The course is open to help the speed of play. It is layed out perfect for the walker as well. One of the most challenging things about the course is the small greens. Good luck with number 5 but when you get on the green make sure you take in the view.
Walk only today
The course looked decent. It was too wet for the golf carts to go out, and they were out of pull carts. The sent us to Pine Lakes for nine holes at the same rate. We had a wonderful experience there.
Dunes Course - Delight
Fantastic day on Jekyll Dunes. Course was dryer than expected & play was lots of fun. Gators are beginning to peek from ponds. Booking through GN is best bargain within 50 miles.
This old course was played by some of the world' richest men. D
Great 9 hole course with a unique layout. The par5 fifth hole is a real challenge . Very interesting course.
An interesting course
The course was very interesting. Some holes were challenging for an intermediate player.
Good nine hole course
This was the second time we played Great Dunes. It is a good nine hole course; we liked the fact there were some par 5's on the course. That made is a bit more challenging. We particularly like the holes with the ocean view; very unusual for a nine hole course. We will play this course again. Very accommodating and friendly at the club house too.
Good practice round
This was a good place to start our winter golf. We live in NH, so it was a good practice round. We had not played since October. Need lots of different shots this course. We like the Jekyll courses.
Pleasant
Been golfing here for years and I have always enjoyed it. Nice walk, pleasant surroudings and enjoyable people.
Looks are deceiving
This course is what remains of the old millionaires' course that was used by the Jekyll Island elite back in the early 1900s. The fairways are average, with plenty of rough on both sides, a few water hazards and lots and lots of trees. The greens are extra small and are fast. Getting a wedge shot to stick on some of them is an art form. Chipping is interesting. Everyone in our foursome had at least one chip shot that landed on the green and rolled off the other side. The most interesting hole is number five. It is a long par five that requires a third shot in the blind from a valley floor to the green on top of a hill. The course looks easy, but it isn't.
AS CLOSE TO SCOTLAND AS YOU'LL SEE
A shotmakers course, You'll play 2 of the hardest par 3's in the Golden Isles. Not difficult after you MISS the green...but almost impossible to birdie no 6 or number 8. The course is the same as it was in the early 1930's when my grandfather would come over from Sea Island( where he the Pro -Greenskeeper) and help them with any turf problems the were having difficulty with.. Andy Bean learned a lot of his shots on this course as a young boy
Great Value!
What a course! At times you can hear and see the waves crashing on the beach. I liked the course lay out and appreciate the history.
the only thing green were the greens
All of the history is there. It would be nice if they did a little over seeding. This time of year it looks like a lunar landscape. Had fun. Shot a 43.
old time course
Old time golf course---open with small greens
great shape
fun to play
Wonderful little course
course is in good condition and offers challenges despite it' lengths. The par 5 5th is a nice surprise as you go up the hill to the ocean views. we will play again as it is a great value.
Tough nine holes!
Not an "executive" course, it packs a lot of surprises in 9 holes. Well maintained and excellent, friendly staff. I played 9 in the late morning and came back for another round in the afternoon. Ocean views, which also means some breezy holes. The smaller than average size greens puts your short game at a premium.
Not "Great" Except for Scenic Ocean Views
A typical beach layout suffering from wide fairway's and small uninteresting greens.
This is course has a few curious holes like #7 which features a blind uphill second shot to a narrow 20 yard wide opening that is 50-60 yards long. You have no clue where the green is unless you have played here before.
Wide fairways were in below average condition, with many tuffs of grass and partially bald spots. It's obvious that the "budget" being spent on other Jekyll Island courses.
Consider this layout if you shoot 100 or are bringing a new player to a "real" golf course or if your budget is only $9.00 for for 9 holes! (GolfNow)
Slow play prevails, even when with just a few folks on the course.
Georgia on my mind
I have played two of the three courses on this site. The Oleander was years ago and I fell in love with it. I just recently playe the Pine Lakes course. If you saw the movie Bagger Vance, this course resembles it. The moss hanging from the trees and the thick woods that line the fairways. Throw in some tall majestic pines and white sand bunkers and you have a very rustic southern course. It is flat, to be expected. The course is fair from the tees and the greens are decent sized. Everything I wanted in a coastal Georgia course was found here. I saw deer, racoons and a gator. This is a must play if you are in the area.
