Just enjoy the experience
We were a little apprehensive booking a 9 hole course, but as soon as we saw the unique set up we were pleasantly surprised. Tees were narrow, fairways wide and greens small. It was a good test of golf. Thoroughly recommended if you only want to spend a couple of hours playing golf.
Great Course
Great course, shot the best round of golf ever. Will play again.
A Trip Back in Time
This is how golf along the Georgia Coast was born and was intended to be played. Any vacation on Jekyll Island must include a trip around this nine hole unsung heirloom of turn of the century golf. Walter Travis routed some of the country's classic links, and the Dunes remains a virtually untouched Travis tract. If the wind is whipping off the beach, enjoy.
tHIS cOURSE IS WELL KEPT AND OFFERS MANY CHALLANGES
THIS IS A WONDERFUL WALKING COUIRSE. THE SEA BREEZE AND SCENERY I ALONG WITH THE CHALLANGES MAKES THIS COURSE WORTH PLAYING.
Old Memories
Hadn't played this course in 20 yrs. Brought back many memories from back then. Still a fun place to play. Good old fashioned links course. The small greens make you pay attention.
Thoroughly enjoyable
It is NOT on Capt Wylie Rd., the other 3 courses are. It's back towards where you come into Jekyll Island along the ocean rd.
I had, for me, a good game. I shot a 50 on the nine holes. I started and ended with the same ball. There are no water hazards you have to cross and the sand traps are relatively minimal, but they are there. I just managed to avoid them. Carts are available but I walked the 9 holes very comfortably. As others noted, the greens are pretty small but that's part of the fun. I'd play the course again in a hearbeat.
Fun course!
We wanted a cart but not available because course has been too wet. We had to wait an hour for 4 pull carts so we did some sightseeing. We ended up walking with one person having a bad knee but she did OK as the course is an easy walk. We loved the middle 4 holes...nice to see the ocean and constant breeze throughout our play even though we started at 11:30. Course was in better shape than we expected and great 9 holes for the price! Staff was so accommodating and helpful -- just great!
Worth it for all holders
I went on a windy cloudy day and that added to experience. Greens were in great shape on all nine holes. A few hills to deal with and some of the smallest greens you will play anywhere. My only issue was a group of ladies decided to start on hole 8 and 9 as part of a shotgun start and it caused a major delay for playing. I recommend all golfers to walk the course if you can as it gives you the full experience for the course.
small greens
don't be fooled standing on first tee looks like an easy course greens are small with alot of break if you can 2 putt every green you will be lucky tuffest greens I have ever played my strokes gained is normally 1.8 I 3 putted alot
Great 9 hole course!
Great conditions, amazing view. Challenging course!
Nice course, very friendly staff, super location.
Lovely short 9 hole course located within yards of ocean. At the moment, course is in very good shape. Small greens increases difficulty and scoring. Sometimes a bit slow as many golfers "new" to the game attempt to get in a round. Worth the money though.
Course was good, but wet
The course was very wet in places, but was in pretty good shape considering all the rain they recieved this year.
Some nice ocean views. Would play there again.
Fantastic value for the money!
Excellent location with ocean views on some of the holes. Can't beat the price! Not very crowded, pace is exceptional. Staff are always VERY friendly and happy to accommodate. Very relaxed atmosphere. LOVE playing the dunes!
CHALLENGES YOUR SHORT GAME
A delightful course to play. Innocent in its basic simplicity, yet quite challenging due to its very small greens made even more difficult by occasional difficult pin placements. Because the course is relatively short, a premium is placed on wedge play. There is a difficult par 5 on the course which has a "hidden" green over a hill with little margin of error. Shots hit off line are swallowed by thick growth, and an approach shot that flies the green results in an unplayable lie. Scoring a six on this hole is quite satisfying.
Superb 9 hole ocean links course.
I love playing this course. It challenges you to place your shots in the right area. With magnificant views of the ocean and ocean breezes, this is a gem of a course to walk or ride. It has small greens, some are at fairway level, and some are elevated, making them more challenging. Some water and bunkers do come into play. You can play another 9 from a different tee box to make it an 18 hole course.
Fun course
Nine hole course; part of the original Jekyll Island course from the gilded age. Small greens make it challenging. Great ocean views; usually not crowded. Very good value.
Lot's of fun, well worth the fee.
The course is very different from what we are used to today but if you want to know what golf was like in the gilded age this is the course.
