Challenging Layout, Needs Lots of Attention
Barrington is a challenging course with narrow fairways and lots of elevation changes routed through very nice housing . You must be able to hit the ball straight, as every hole is bordered by tight OB (too much) or deep woods. Tough par-3s.
When Barrington opened, it was one of the top courses in Middle GA. It fell on hard times and is not close to what it used to be. Fairways are mostly okay, but bare spots abound. Greens were heavily sanded. Many were clearly hurting. Rocks abound; some intentional, some not. Bunkers are a joke, either mud or baked clay. No rakes provided ; they'd be useless anyway. Worst cart paths ever, forcing detours that increase the bare spots. Range was closed "Today", which from the weeds looks like most days. Very scruffy appearance overall.
Get a Hot Deal, set expectations accordingly, and you'll have a decent time.
Do NOT waste your money.
This place is a dump. Don't waste your money. Weeds everywhere, greens aren't manicured well at all. You could tell it has potential to be a good golf course, but it's borderline unplayable.
This once proud course is now an embarrassment!
This course has a very challenging layout. It is even more challenging now that there is no sand in the bunkers, some fairways are mowed, and the greens are covered with weeds and holes. I have played approximately 15 courses on Golfnow over the last year. This is the absolute worst. Do Not Waste Your Time!
Course has hills and valleys.
A challenge due to the unusual hills, valleys, and non visible greens on some holes from the tee. Lost a few balls in the trees and brush on the sides of the fairways. The cart paths need repair, there are several drop offs and detours. Crossing the busy roads is daunting. Fairways are hard ground, difficult to get more than a quarter inch divit. Greens were fair and speed was average.
Not the best course you'll ever play.
I arrived on time and from the clubhouse the course looked a little scruffy. Out on the course the fairways are OK. the greens require a lot of attention, very slow. You don't have to worry about hitting it past the hole on most greens. Watch out for the rocks buried around the course. Make sure you use the rest room at the clubhouse, the comfort station on the back nine is deplorable. I am a male and I wouldn't go in there. This course is built in among some very nice homes, probably up to a half million dollars on some and this course is not up to that standard. Overall, I'd likely play elsewhere if I could.
Very interesting course, greens need work.
This is a very interesting course, very hilly, some challenging holes. The fairways are not growing in yet, probably normal for March, but the greens are bumpy and slow, and do not run true. It could be a great course if/when the grass grows in.
Really?
I played a round on the day after Thanksgiving and had to wait almost an hour to receive a cart and my tee time was just a little over an hour away. Then I was told that the range was closed. This really sucked as I like to warm up before play. I was thinking that construction or something was going on and it was closed due to the clubhouse not having any balls available as they were not picked from the range. So I had to pick my own balls off the range if I wanted to warm up and I did just that. Then while playing, I lost OVER 12 Titileist NXT's........not in the woods or water, but in the FREAKIN fairways. There were about 19 million leaves in the fairways.. Most depressing was that they were on the greens like that as well. I really don't see myself playing another round there until someone comes in to help out this course. It was not that bad when I played it during the summer.
Course is on the up and up
Played here earlier in the year and the course was in pretty bad shape. Played again in the fall and could see a drastic change. Better greens, thicker fairways, and even the clubhouse was looking much better. Props to the owner and staff for the hard work.
Course can really be a challenge if you don't hit the ball straight. On one side you usually have houses and on the other side you have thick woods. Currently they have the greens sanded and seeded which make approach shots stick pretty hard, but made the putting unpredictable. Plus they are keeping the greens watered pretty hard so it can be muddy in spots so bring your old shoes. :-)
Course should be in really good shape this spring if they keep up the work and I look forward to playing it then.
