Worth The Drive
Monroe Golf and Country Club has a traditional club feel, but plays more like a shorter modern course. The course is well maintained. Greens are usually smooth and fast, but were slow and inconsistent for this round. A couple of holes demand distance, but most holes reward placement over distance. The pace of play was not well managed. Fortunately, we passed the worst offenders at the turn and the back nine pace was much improved. Highly recommended.
Note: I rate golf courses on a absolute scale using the following guidelines:
5 stars - Top tier golf course, all amenities , outstanding service/management and excellent course maintenance.
4 stars - Good to great course layout, complete club experience (full practice facilities, locker room, grill, etc...), efficient service/management, very good course maintenance.
3 stars - Good course layout, average practice facilities, average service/management, average course maintenance. No pace of play problems.
2 stars - Nothing special, but an enjoyable course to play. Only minor issues with pace of play.
1 star - Not worth the effort or serious pace of play issues.
I take pace of play very seriously. A 5-hour round is a minimum two star reduction.
I had not played Monroe in years, and didn't remember the course at all. However, I really love the course now....... and it has rocketed up to be my #1 favorite course., and I plan to play there more often. The appeal is it's openness & not overly difficult layout.
Good Fun Round
Staff was very friendly. Concession has very reasonably priced menu. Course was in good condition for this time of year. Course could use a visible tee box signs. Pace of play was satisfactory.
Great views
Played thru golf now hot deal- too expensive otherwise. Nice folks. They encourage young kids- saw 2 10 yr boys getting hooked and enjoying golf and each other's friendship.
Wonderful course
I really enjoyed the layout of this course. Tons of elevation changes and challenging shots. Would definitely play it again when I'm in the area.
Playing in the Wind
Despite the sunny day the high winds hinder our play especially after we made the turn. The course was in great shape plenty of dog legs but minimum traps / hazards. The golf attendant was ok; seemed sully we interrupted his smoke.
This course has a good layout.
I would play it again the next time I am in the area. A hidden gem. Appealing elevation changes.
Monroe Golf Course
Was second time playing course. Fairways were in great condition and most all the greens were in excellent condition. Rate of play was great, no waiting on tees and no golf's pushing from behind. The rates booked on Golf Now were Excellent.
MGCC
Bent grass greens and fun layout. Some dead spots on the greens from an higher than normal hot and dry summer.
Nice Club House
Greens are in terrible shape -
it would be nice to be informed that the course actually had a tournament going on!!!! - Was told to start on hole #6 and play holes 1 thru 5 after finishing hole 18 - buy the time we got to even look at hole #1 - the same SLOW 4 some that had not finished their tournament was on hole 1 - I was not going to wait until dark to finish 5 more holes of golf.....
Hidden Gen
Read reviews front others. They were accurate. Course in great shape. Greens rolling good and fast. Yet soft enough for your ball to stick on your approach shot. Was able get out on a holiday at 8am for $35. Can't beat it.
tough summer
The fairways were okay but the greens show the wear and tear of a dry, hot summer. Speed on the greens was a little erratic. We played on the weekend and there were at least two fivesomes in front of us although it did not slow play tremendously.
Greens, greens, greens
Course was wide open, so pace was fine. Old CC style and easy to play. Unfortunately the greens were in bad shape. Picked up and moved many times.
PGA worthy
This course was immaculate. They have the prettiest green grass around. The course is in great condition.
Good course
We enjoyed our round ,good condition and pace of play was very good, sand not consistent in bunkers, person at pro shop not very engaging seem a little putoff by us being Golf Now payers
