keep it in the fairway
i have played here many times and like the layout and challenges provided. this time, keeping the ball in the fairway was truly a necessity as the rough was a real challenge as a result of the recent rainy spell which promoted the growth to be longer and thicker that usual. finding errant shots and executing recovery shots were both difficult to achieve.
Very Wet
While we have had our share of rain, Glendale Lakes truly was like a lake. The course doesn't drain well and while walking on the fairways, I constantly could hear the plopping of my steps. The course was very wet, which kept ball rolls to a minimum. The course required cart path only. The course also has yet to bring in a kitchen staff so no food is available except some snacks. I hope they resolve this soon although it has been more than eight months since the last time I saw food options.
Major Let Down
Been here multiple times and this was the worst. Players waiting for carts to be pulled up. No distinction for pin placement. 70 degrees and CPO? Even the starter was confused why. Said it was a maintenance call but no rain so why?
Decent shape for winter consitions
Course is now more open after some tree removal, some sand traps also filled in before spring renovations, biggest challenge was the copious amounts of goose droppings on many holes and tee boxes. Overall - good early season price for conditions that were less than ideal.
sand traps are dirt
The sand traps are mosly dirt and unexcepable. This has been going on for a few years. They didn't do a good job keeping the leaves clear so it was difficult to find your golfball and it slowed play. It took 3 of us over 4.5 hours to play 18. The fairways and greens were in good shape.
Nice course. Some holes are tight with water where you are likely to miss. The course was in great shape with nice tough greens. We will be back.
Glendale lakes
Nice staff, very easy to walk up as a single. Course was in pretty good shape. Bunkers need work but it looks like they are in progress of doing that for next season. Greens played well. Overall for the prices it is hard to beat.
Tough
This course is hard. Get ready for a tough but fun day.
Not a Serious Course
There are some great Park District courses in Chicagoland--this just isn't one of them. For $67 (w cart), I expect better course maintenance. The first hole has dug up dirt/trench/pile of rubble on the right hand side that apparently according to people that play often has been there for 3-4 years.
Sand traps on almost every hole and NONE have been refilled in years! You are literally hitting in raked dirt--unless you want to break your club or break your elbow, suggest you move your ball out. No serious course would charge $67 and never refill on sand...
From the tips is only 6100 yards, so you get a lot of high handicap golfers, which is fine, just expect slow play, no divot repairs on the green and balls flying at you at all angles.
I suppose that is why we were able to find a Sunday morning tee time on short notice.
Good course, no amenities
The course was in great shape! They had cart path only because of heavy rains the last few days, which is understandable, but no prior warning when booking. Just, surprise! But that happens... No concessions. There's a fridge with some drinks, candy and chips. Understandable for a cheaper public course. Could use a hot dog or something. Might be a little picky but compared to most of the public courses in the area they're definitely lacking. The guy in the pro shop and the starter are also a little ornery for having to do so little. Seems like we were being a burdenn just showing up to golf. I try to be fair so three stars. Great course, would love to play it again but probably never will because of everything it's missing. Use this for what it's worth to you :)
