A classic, vintage course in nice shape
Last played Glenwoodie in 1998(!). It has aged quite well. In spite of recent rains that left the course a bit spongy in spots (90-degree rule), it was in fine shape - especially greens and tee-boxes. Layout is a basic down and back on the front nine, with some challenging interaction with a deeply-ravined creek on the back nine. Get your good scores carded on the front if you can, as the back is considerably tougher.
Nice clubhouse, good hot dogs, and friendly staff only added to the experience on a sunny, warm day in Mid-May. All around positive experience, which came about only because our originally booked course (the nearby Balmoral Woods) imposed cart-paths only, which our senior-aged legs can no longer handle. Now that the “Woodie” has been rediscovered by our group (after only a couple decades!) we’ll likely add it to the rotation.
Of course, a par-saving 35-ft big bender putt on #18 sure helped the ol’ attitude! Seriously though, the greens were terrific: consistent, firm and true - the best we’ve played on yet this year.
Good course, questionable organization
Really liked the course. Conditions were good, it's fun, it's scorable, and the people there were very nice.
It's a huge bummer when you get to the first tee box and it's a 40 min delay on a mid-morning Saturday. The Starter said that the first group of the day was late, so THEY HELD THE GROUPS BEHIND THEM UNTIL THE FIRST GROUP BOTHERED TO SHOW UP.
That's insane. Your job as a starter is to get the groups flowing on the course. If someone's late - it's their fault. Get a group that IS THERE on the course and get it going. Or whoever in the late group can skip ahead and join whatever hole that group is on once they get there.
Every following group was ticked off. My group ended up bailing after a near three hour front nine. Probably won't ever come back on a weekend.
Glenwoodie Golf Course
Staff very professional Teed off on time course in good shape for early golf season. Price was excellent. I had a great time.
Play it If you have no choice
Played here on 4/14/2024. Tee time booking system was a Joke. I booked a 12pm tee time on Golf Now as a Single. Just to be told that when I showed up the course that the tee time became a Four some not sure how that happen So I Bumped to another tee time. Whatever. I head over to the starter and was greeted with "why would you ever show up as a single to a golf course on a Sunday." My response " Not sure Buddy never seemed to be an issue till I met you" Wont be going back that's for sure. If your in Flossmoor and have to play a course. Play Coyote Run a much better overall experience
Told someone who was playing Glenwoodie for the first-time that he should expect to shoot 4-6 shots higher on the back 9. He shot 8 shots higher. They should rename the front 9 Jekyll and the back 9 Hyde.
PACE: I have played Glenwoodie several times in 2023. The staff has helped manage pace in the past, and most of the times that isn't necessary as slower groups have let our faster pairing through. However, if this course is crowded you will do a 4.5 to 5 hour round.
CONDITIONS: Tees and greens are in good shape. The greens appear to still be recovering from winter. They roll quick, but not always true. Bunkers were maintained and playable.
STAFF: Everyone has been helpful and friendly. Thank you! There was a cart woman out the day I was playing.
VALUE: IMO, Glenwoodie is priced responsibly. Go play and enjoy!
LAYOUT: Fun front 9. Holes #2 and #3 bring ponds into play, and if you hit it left on either of the par 5s you are playing for bogey. The back 9 is more challenging. Holes #11 and #16 bring Deer Creek into play and are quite the challenge; #12 is a short par 3, where I've seen a ball spin off the front of the green into the bunker. The greens at Glenwoodie will have you full attention.
It's about a 30 minute drive, and past about a half-dozen other courses, for me to get to Glenwoodie. I do recommend giving it a play!
One of My Favorite in the Chicago Area
I am a fan of older “golden age” golf courses and Glenwoodie does not disappoint. Course is a pleasant walk with several hilly areas, but manageable. Course is playable off the tee and becomes more difficult in and on the greens. The greens appear to not have been tinkered with too much and are are classic built up undulating greens from the period the course was built.
Highly recommended if in the Chicago burbs to play.
Autumn Golf in Chicago
Course is back to fast and firm after aeration.

Fair Course for All
An older course but in great shape. A great mix of short and longer holes. The greens are the defense of the course, they are undulating and there are some that are very fast from back to front. The signature and difficult holes are No. 11 and No. 16. On No. 11, get your drive to the lower fairway, then the approach shot needs to be below the hole. No. 16 is one of the most difficult holes as one drives to edge of the upper fairway and then is left with a 165 to 175 yard shot over a ravine/creek to a small green that is fast from front to back. Walk off with a 4 on No. 16 and celebrate like you made birdie. The rough can be thick therefore keeping your drives in the fairway are rewarded. Play in the afternoon for $27 with a cart and you have enough left over for beer and hot dog from the bar. Nice outdoor deck and a big driving range and putting green make this a solid place to visit often. If you want a more difficult course go back a tee box or move up and have a great time with your family. Very walkable course with only 2 or 3 hills to walk up.
Diamond of South Suburbs
I played Glenwoodie yesterday, I walked and really enjoyed my game! The course even though we have had a lot of rain drains well and carts were allowed on the fairways.
The rough is tough and the greens are the best around.
Had a burger in the clubhouse wow what a bar and banquet center to behold. I ate on the tree outdoor wrap around deck beautiful. There is an automatic brick ball dispenser to lit real grass driving range can it get any better.
Great shape, poorly managed
I will start with the positive. The course is in excellent shape. The layout is very challenging with a nice mix of tough holes and fairly easy holes. With that being said do not try playing here early in the morning. They advertise tee times as early as 6am online. The last two times I booked times around 630am. The guy who was supposed to open up didn’t even show up until nearly 630am. Because they have a gate you couldn’t even get into parking lot. There were several groups literally waiting in their cars outside the parking lot. The grounds crew also starts very late. On 4 holes on the front we were waiting in the fairway for mowers, blowers, rollers, etc...to finish their work. They were still cutting and rolling greens at 11am. While preparing to take swings many times the workers left their lawnmowers and blowers running - it was often very loud and sometimes distracting. The price is good though so I guess you take the good with the bad.
What a place!!!
Had a 6:08 tee time. Arrived at 5:45 no one around. Gate, locked. I can wait for awhile.6:15 gate still locked. A few guys showing up. 6:30 more people showing up, gate still locked. 7:10 manager shows up, unlocks gate, and gate a hand full of cart keys to us. Then locks building up, then disappears. Leaving cart boy to run the show. He tells us to get your own cart, and you can settle up at the turn. well all the foursomes push to the front, and rush to the 1st tee. Showing there massive golf etiquette.. Now with four foursome on the 1st tee. And no intentions for letting a single go. I ask if anyone has a key to the building. Been there for an hour and a half. Coffee is starting to work. Was told there is a port-a-potty on number 12, over there.
Secret spot
This course is excellent and good value. long enough for the bombers but still challenging at shorter tees.
Well maintained course
The course was in fine condition for this time of year.
Some forgiving fairways and large greens.
The back nine is challenging.
Great place to play golf.
Great Course, Great Course Conditions and Great Friendly Staff.
