Never a Bad Time at Highland Park
Sunny day, beautiful course. The starter helped get everyone off early or on time. Time of play was about 5 hours, pretty normal for the first 80-degree day in 2 weeks. The greens demanded attention. Fairways were in good shape. Tee boxes weren't flat, probably the only complaint I'd have.
HP is my default course
Highland Park has become my default course to play for fun and practice. Easy to secure a tee-time, and fees are a good value.
Nice course
Carpet fairways but narrow. If your not accurate you'll be in tree lines or other trouble often.
Good but mot enough variety.
Old school coarse that has narrow fairways that are mostly straight. Staff was barely there and did a poor job of alerting my group of the 17th hole over water with the hidden fairway. Had no idea where to hit. Nicer coarse's in area for the money, even with discount built in.
Great Traditional track with modern feel
Course was in great shape. They could speed the greens up a touch!
solid course
Good course in good condition. Fairways a bit narrow with lots of trees, but holes are not too long.
Only issue is there is no starter at the 1st tee. Everyone sort of goes off whenever they feel like it. Tons of traffic and pace of play was slow.
Typical Highland Park round
Typical round here; relatively slow play and overpriced for what it is. I paid $39 and it was still too much. Roughs were like the U.S. Open and had not been cut for quite some time. Greens were good but slow. Does anyone fix a ball mark here? Try to leave the course in better shape than when you arrived. This course has a nice surface but there are many holes very close together. Once a year is more than enough.
Some good holes. Plays longer than yardage
Ok for the $. Prefer better food and beverage Course shirt but tight
Great shape!
The course was in great shape and the greens were much better than other courses in the area, or perhaps I was putting great! Either way we were sinking long putts and stopping near the pin on longer putts on a consistent basis. Short game had great course conditions. Many holes have very challenging tee shots as this is a tight course and trees off the tee come in play!
great course. . I would play here again.
Definitely a place to play a few rounds a year. Would play again.
Highland Park Country Club
The Good: This former north shore Country Club turned park district course has above average course conditions and small, slick greens. Decent layout is a little congested, but overall good variety in Par 4's, nice Par 3's, and a couple very challenging Par 5's. Decent clubhouse with good pro shop, restaurant and bar. Staff is nice enough. Fair value during off season and has many online specials.
The Bad: Sand trap complexes are a little thin. Limited on-course amenities with no restroom areas and lack of GPS. Poor practice facility with limited putting green and driving range that is out of the way from first tee. Too steep in prices during peak season, even for the north shore. Lackluster on-course service.
The Verdict: Highland Park Country Club is a fair option and can be a "steal" on the shoulder season. Interesting layout and strong enough conditions for return play.
Best Hole: The long Par 4 4th hole requires a precise drive to avoid water and a long iron approach.
Tight fairways but very challenging
Well maintained older course. A bit tight so if you hook or slice you will be in for a long day. Carts (still gas) need to be updated, they have seen better days.
1st time at Blackstone
Course was recommended so wanted to try and at the price on Golf Now, thought would be comparable to other very nice course. While I shot a very good round, disappointed to find more like a course within a development, short holes, mostly 330 yd or less par 4's, only able to use drive 3-4 times. Good course yet not on par with Bowes, Stonewall, Blackstone or Highlands of Elgin. Price high compared to these.
Great Course
Great condition. Tall trees make for narrow fairway tee shots.
great time
Great course nice layout nice staff got a good deal played solo andaybe saw 5 groups the whole afternoon on a nice day. Lots of trees. Need to play smart here but its fun
Nice greens
A classic traditional Chicago area course with very true greens.
Great old CC
Loved the greens. Tight course, but in great condition
Nice traditional course
We'll conditioned with some interesting holes. I would recommend if you are in the area.
