Bacon Park's greens were still recovering in August 2018, but they have plenty of interesting contours. This is the 15th. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/07/2018
Disappointing
Many of greens had damaged areas that interfered with putts. Cart paths were non continuous with no indication where to proceed that resulted in a cart lock-up. Frustrating to unlock cart and know where to go. Coarse cut so short that many shots hitting off dirt.
Not up to par...
Not up to par. Tee boxes were ok. Fairways lacked grass. Greens were damaged by disease with large areas filled in with sand. Like a bunker in the middle of maybe 30% of the greens. We had a good time but it had nothing to do with the course. I was told that somebody bought the course and put a lot of money into it. Not sure where it went but it wasn't in improving the turf. I won't go back.
Fun course for Group
Played with a college reunion group. Course layout is very good. Will be a great course when the repairs are complete.
Happy Golfing
It was a nice day and great course with good friends!!!
Old school classic
If you want to play an old school classic designed by Ross, this is a good one. The city needs to put more money into the course, but it was a pleasure to play and the greens were the fastest I ever played. The live oaks with the Spanish Moss were great and this place will definitely take you back in time. Staff was excellent and friendly. Played as a single early morning for 53 bucks on a Tuesday and was done in 3 hours and back to the family vacation.
frankb
the course was great the staff was great would play this course again
A hidden classic
This course is a Donald Ross design from 1926. You can tell - it has the shapes of many Ross courses. The greens are actually pretty quick and true. (Ignore the practice green). If it had the maintenance budget of a private Ross, the fringes and first/second cuts would be tight and fast and the course would get its due. Alas, it does not, but the operator does appear to appreciate the course and is trying.
Fun to play, I'd play again.
Time has passed this course by
The first 3 greens had giant depressions filled with sand. The electric carts had instructions to where they want you to go but with 0 paths it shuts down frequently to areas you'd not expect. Doest feel like much has gone into improvement or maintenance since ross opened it in 1926
Course ok for my level of play
We had the course to ourselves, a little baron on some fairways, greens were fast but some had damage. Overall an enjoyable experience..
Donald Ross
It's clear that the new group managing the property cares about golf and design. Greens rolled very true and had t0 be handled strategically. Holes were interesting each one different. Great value at a muni that is well cared for.
Value for Money
At $40 a head this is good value for money but some greens need some work and while generally course condition was good there is plenty of room for improvement. Lay out is varied if flat. Still considering my home courses charges over €350 a round this course is worth a shot.
Staff was excellent. Pace was extremely slow. Course needs much TLC. Greens were D. Ross challenging.
