Outing circus
As usual, the geniuses that run Fresh Meadows had a shotgun start for a charity outing occurring at the same time as other parties (twosomes, threesomes, foursomes) going off #1. It's not hard guys - why do you make it seem like rocket science?
I want it to get better
While there are some really good things about this course I cannot ignore How poorly it is currently maintained. It’s a nice layout and has friendly staff. It’s obvious they are probably understaffed and having trouble with maintenance. The location is great and pace is good except the grass is so high everyone has problems finding there ball which ultimately slows the pace. It is becoming a last resort facility. Which saddens me.
Let’s clear some things up
Several bad reviews and not undeserved. But let’s review some things.
For the area this course is cheap. You pay about what it’s worth. Reasonable value but understand it’s not a great facility.
Why is that? The land is owned by the Archdiocese of Chicago and after last year they were not going to renew the lease. They want to expand the adjoining cemetery. So, there has not been any investments in the facility. They were winding down operations.
The lease was renewed for another year so the situation repeats. Do not expect them to put much into it.
Played yesterday for the first time this year.
Several tee boxes were in good shape. It’s early in the year. Some were not in good shape and don’t expect them to improve. OK, deal with it. Many had been mowed and the markers were not put back. Just laying to the side of the tee box. That’s lazy.
Fairways are in good shape. Weather has helped this spring. Not manicured country club but very playable.
Except, the rough should be cut a little shorter. Not to make it easier to play but to make it easier to find your ball so pace of play can be maintained. It really slows play.
Overall greens are growing OK. But, they are very bumpy. They need to be rolled.
The traps are an embarrassment. Very hard, weeds and grass growing in all of them, broken glass in the greeside bunker on #1. They need to be roto tilled and sand added but don’t expect that money to be spent. They should just fill them in.
Yeah, the carts are old. Usually work but ours was very messy. It looked like a drink had been spilled and it was sticky. I should have switched before going out.
The woman who checked me in was nice. But, when we made the turn my wife went in to use the restroom and she was questioned if she should be out there. As if she just walked on and started playing. That was rude.
So, it is what it is. Know that going in. You get what you pay for.
DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY
$50+ to play an unkempt disaster of a course. You won't find a single flat tee box, manicured fairway, or decent green. Every cart is damaged somehow. There's not even a clubhouse anymore.
Please do not golf here until Arcis decides to put money into the course.
The course is stealing!
No attempt to pretend to care about the maintenance of the course or value to the customer. Embarrassing. Another course open last week had fine conditions, BECAUSE THEY CARE!. Fresh Meadows should be ashamed of themselves. But every year they don't.
Nice Layout
Nice layout, conditions were fine for warm winter day. Staff very nice. This course needs some TLC if it’s going to stay open( it was supposed to close after last year) they also need ranger or starter. I played on a 50F day after I made the turn and a guy cut in at 10 when I caught up to him on the 11th tee he went off on me telling me to F” off that he could do whatever he wanted. Trash like this guy needs to be checked I don’t enjoy hostility.
Overall course was ok but needs work to be worth 30 dollars to walk.
Paid for golfcart and green fees and clerk said walking only, not even pull carts false advertisement
Windy
Played this course many times, today was windy, fall golf was very challenging with high rough. Still scored below 100. The practice was ok I have been hitting off the mats
RIP Fresh Meadows?
Need to cut the grass! The fairways play like the rough, the rough plays like very thick fescue. We found many lost balls of others in the rough. Lost a few myself there. Greens are bumpy. No water or ball washers on course. Tee box markers missing. Rumor is that course may be selling our acreage to archdiocese to build more cemetery space.
Good Pace
I have played this course many times, after some rain, the course was scorable, I broke 100, and even close to breaking 90, my 56 degree wedge landed near the pin. This was a classic course in it's day, storms ravaged the trees, but the par 3's are nice, the 18th will give you a snowman if you are not careful, the Club house is being rebuilt at some point, ok golf though.
