Friendly Staff - The only positive
Staff was friendly. No Marshall present, therefore I was stuck behind a twosome who was stuck behind a threesome that would not allow them to play through. The staff is aware of the back 9 greens, but there are a couple of holes on the front that aren't good either. There was also a problem with golfers getting onto the base because of new guidelines.
Not great from the start
I think the course is fair and great for the money, but the experience is less than stellar. It took us over 45minutes to get through the base entrance, they were very lackadaisical in getting us through. Then once we hurried to the desk, the gentleman was fairly rude and made us wait longer 5-10min while he counted change. Pace of play was slow, we were a foursome and they had singles and twosomes all around us and made pace really inconsistent. We let people play through as well. but not ideal.
Greens
Greens were in ill repair. Worst I've seen on any course, hands down!
good cheap course
This is a good place to play on a budget. The course is under repair but it was fun none the less. I walked in the clubhouse and they asked my name hands me a cart key and I was off to play. Absolutely no hassle. It is a good way to support the military mwr to help give the soldiers a good cheap place to play.
I will play here again definitely.
Needs Water
This was the second time playing this course and probably the last time unless someone else pays. The Savannah area has not had rain in several weeks and the fairways showed as they were baked out. Drives would bounce 5 feet in the air then role through the fairways into rough, leaf piles, wooded areas, etc. Greens were relatively good but you could tell they were watered by the numerous pitch marks that scattered them.
Very forgiving course for any competent golfer.
I'm a Vietnam era vet and I actually enjoyed entering the base gate. Young soldiers greeting and directing, polite and appreciative of my former service. Its a bit confusing finding the course on base even with the directions. Listen carefully! Rain threatened so it was a super fast round. Light traffic.. The course is wide open, few obstructions but the tee placements are varied enough to present a challenge if you need it. Long, with many doglegs. Water doesn't really come into play much. Back nine greens seem to have a fungus but it is being resolved and doesn't effect the putting much. THE FAIRWAYS ARE EXCELLENT! You can get some great bargains here. New to Savannah but will be playing here regularly.
Good day out
This course was well laid out with wide fairways and good greens. Unfortunately some of the greens on the back 9 showed signs of wear and will take some experienced work from the green keeping staff to recover them. That said it did not detract from an enjoyable game.
Great game
I have played this course before and like playing here. I was disappointed with the condition of some of the greens, the grass was burnt out and down to the soil. Other than the condition of the greens the course is very good. I actually shot the best game here a 93.
Great Course, back nine greens were sand though
Like the title says it was a great course and an awesome value for the money. I'm not sure what was going on with the back 9 though so much sand on all of the greens, but everything was great and will definitely be visiting again in the future.
Hunter Golf
Decent affordable course on a military base in Savannah GA. Very hard to find the correct gate entrance and course as the signage leading you is poor. However, once you are there, the course was fine. Front nine was in good shape but the greens on the back were pretty sandy.
beach golf trip
The course was in pretty good shape. The only claw was there was a lot of puddles because it had rained very hard the day before. I would definitely play the course again.
Good value
Front nine is excellent design and fun to play. Back nine is less enjoyable and some greens are in rough shape.
Hunter Golf Course
First time playing Hunter and had a great time. Middle of summer and grass was awesome and the greens fast. Some of the tees were a bit dry. Definitely a well maintained course. Keep your ball in the fairways and the challenge is the plateau greens. There were a couple spots where a lay up or a good draw will serve you well. Not a lot of water to worry about, sacrificed a couple to the forest fairies. Course plays well, hot dog and a snickers after 9. Pro shop was well stocked and reasonable.
Hunter greens
The greens were in super poor condition and it was almost not worth playing. So many dropped shots because of poor maintenance on these areas
Sight issue getting onto Hunter Army Base, but good course.
Overall good course. A few of the greens need work but you can see that they are actively trying to improve that. It is a good course to play if you are trying to work out some issues in your golf game. My only negative is that when I followed the directions their website gave me to their course, it led me to a locked gate. I had to find an alternate route and I was almost late for scheduled tee time. It was a good thing that the course was quiet. It wasn't an issue on this particular day that I was running a little behind. In the future, I will make sure I map out a more direct route to the course.
Great value!
Range was in great shape. Fairways were in good/ok shape. Tee boxes were in below avg shape. Greens were good. Great value through GN
Amazing Shape
I played this course a long while back and it was in really bad shape but now it is in AMAZING shape. Really challenging for exact ball placement. The greens are in really good shape and the fairways are too. I am going to be a regular at this course.
Great shape!
Course is in really good shape. A few greens have bad spots, but overall they are ok. Greens on this course are really small and require precise iron shots to hold them.
Fun, but challenging and small greens
Course in great shape. Tight fairways with a few overhanging trees. Greens were VERY small, but receptive.
Terrible greens
Not sure when they aerated greens but so many have bad spots with no grass at all. Fairways good. Need tree removal or fans around some geens to help them survive
