Just what I was looking for in a course
Good elevation change, fun layout, challenging but not to extreme, nice views and good pace of play
First Time visiting from Massachusetts
During a week's stay on the BI, played this course. I had read other reviews complaining about the greens had been recently aerated. Greens were in great shape and could see where they had been punched but now fully recovered and rolled true. The day I played there was 3-4 club wind coming from the mountains to the ocean. The front nine was a test of club selection. Really enjoyed this course and would play it again. Great views and elevation changes on some holes. It was a good test of my game. Pace of play was great.
aeration
Greens were aerated recently. Total crap that this was full price. You should add that to your tee time listings and I should get a credit
Fairways in poor shape but the greens were
Pretty good
Terrific layout
My wife and I enjoy playing at Hapuna. The design is very good. Holes play in all directions, and the elevation changes and wind add interesting challenges. The green designs are intricate, but when we played they had been aerated about ten days prior, and they were very bumpy, which made even short putts difficult. We look forward to playing again when the greens have recovered to normal speeds.
Beautiful View
Great scenery, blue sky and sea.
But windy. You have to think the management.
Then more fun!
Best thing at this time about this course was the fairways
I played this course as my first course on the BIG ISLAND and was truely disappointed. I paid over $100 to play on aerated greens....the best part about this course was the staff and the fairways.... other than that don't play at this time of year....Horrible. !!
Beautiful Course and Views
Course has wide fairways but the approach to the greens are elevated and many protected by bunkers. Greens were in excellent shape but a little slow. Think about moving forward on the tee boxes . Almost every hole required a fair amount of carry of the the tees.
Great Course
Staff is great and course is kept in great condition always.
Take My Picture- you won’t see me there again
This course seems to be the ignored step child compared to the main course at Mauna Kea.
Greens were great. That is the only good thing I can say.
The pro shop is small with with very little desirable merchandise. The carts are old and we’ll beyond their life expectancy.
Almost all of the fairways are spotty with a lot of bare areas and dead patches. The bunkers were well below average at best. It didn’t look like they had been raked in weeks. The Nenes were at least at home in the standing water in a few of them!
My wife and I played as a twosome, which seemed to be the popular thing on this day, as we followed a twosome and saw a couple more. Two ridiculously slow guys were in front of us and continued to hit multiple balls on practically every shot. There was not a Marshall or course assistant to be seen all day, leaving us to finally skip ahead late on the back nine. 4 hours to play 18 holes is very frustrating.
Upon finally finishing, there were no employees except one still working. Nobody in the cart area, nobody in the pro shop…at 3:00 on a Saturday.
Totally disappointed as this used to be a great tract in a great location…but it has fallen so far it isn’t even funny.
Avoid playing here.
Great value
Played in the morning after a 1.5 hour rain delay. Course draining was great. By the 4th hole was unable to tell it had rained. Played alone and spouse rode along taking pictures at all the nice vistas from the many elevated tees.
1st time
Great layout, good mix of holes, difficult to good birdie opportunities. Condition were very good. Able to play 3 hours after a torrential downpour.
Hapuna golf course
Nice course and layout. Played 18 holes in 2 hrs. Only thing is when you go to Hapuna golf course website. Look at golf photos. They show holes along ocean front. There are zero holes along the ocean. Very misleading. Extremely disappointed. Won’t play again
