Challenging greens
Wide fairways and new carts back 9 more challenging finished in 3:30 even waiting on group
Great value
Whenever we are in Maui we play this course. Its value and wide fairways allow for an enjoyable round for golfers of all skills. The greens were a little tough this time but otherwise in very good shape. Highly recommend.
First time playing this course
Great layout. Course runs a smidge narrow in some areas which makes it’s a little challenging. Back 9 is more forgiving. Great time. Staff is friendly. Good for beginners and up.
Fun course
This course offers great rental clubs that also include 6 Callaway balls. Beautiful views, but watch out for the wind.
Underwheming
They were very honest about the 17th green and hole being closed. I understand there were some condition challenges with recent storms however the greens were awful, and the damage to the course was understated and the price was not something I would have paid to play had I known the true condition of this course.
The course staff in the pro shop was cold and we had to ask for help, it was more what I would have expected from a city or municipal course than a resort style course. The greens were long and slow and bumpy. The overall layout wasn’t a spectacular experience but there were a few holes that were pretty cool especially their 9th hole with the lake! It was gorgeous.
Overall, I wasn’t impressed with this course and the overall experience especially for the price we had to pay.
Brutal Conditions
This course needs a ton of work. Ground under repair and torn up on almost every hole. Almost every green is in rough shape, where there is grass on the course, large clumps and strings of clippings. Wet spots, mud, water. All I can say is brutal. This course is in such rough shape. Only positive of this course is brand new carts with range finder touchscreens and speakers. If you just want to get an AM round in quick, and don’t care if you’re playing a goat ranch, then this is the place for you.
First & Last time I’ll play here!
I finally played Maui Nui, after living on Maui for 2.5yr. It is in the worst shape of any golf course I’ve played in the past 5yr. Poor & neglected greens, terrible fairways with obstacles, holes, and ground under repair everywhere, and even half the Tee boxes are a disgrace. The worst problem is, it’s not really under reconstruction - only two greens have been replaced in the past several years, and they all need to be redone. I’d understand if they were charging twenty bucks a round, but it’s nearly triple that. Avoid playing here until Mgmt gets serious to improve things.
Maui Nui is an absolute goat track… embarrassing!
Mediocre for Hawaii
The lowest cost to play in Maui and you get what you pay for. the greens were in horrible shape. the driving range and the clubhouse setyou up for low expectations. Pace of play was fine and course layout was OK but the greens looked like a war zone.
Pay the extra money at Wailea it’s more than worth it
Needs some TLC
Great staff, but the course is hurting. Patchy and dead grass on many greens, fairways and tee boxes.
Our Goto Course on Maui
Our recent trip to Maui was highlighted by this golf course. It is not a high end facility but it offers a very challenging layout and the value is unbeatable. There are ongoing improvements with a new TopTracer driving range opened in 2023 and as of recently brand new power carts with a great GPS system. The 17th hole is currently closed for renovation but they have 19 holes so the spare hole is rotated in when work is being done elsewhere.
One of the most outstanding assets they have is their staff who are all friendly, accommodating and very good at what they do. It is a pleasure to deal with them.
The course itself is in good condition but should be prioritized now to bring it up one more level. I highly recommend golfers from beginner to single digit handicappers make this a stop for play on Maui. We love it.
Hostile Manager- should take a civility training course.
No one- the check in person, the manage sitting nearby, the starter, or Golf Now, who we booked with- informed us that one hole (17) was closed and a temporary hole ( between 1& 2) was to be played. So we followed the group in front of us, skipping the temporary hole . Not nice. But then the real challenge started. The course received new carts that morning, and the shut down if in a restricted feature was misprogramed. On 9 of the 17 holes we played, the carts shut down ON THE CART PATHS. On one hole we had to back up at a super slow speed for over 100 yards, and in fact had to search for a way forward, with over 6 stoppages.
My wife called in to report the problem, and spoke to the manager, who stated he was on the computer trying to reprogram the system. He was exceptionally rude. He sharply several times stated he couldn’t help since she couldn’t tell him EXACTLY where we were/-in yards from the tee or green.
He could have disabled the program or intstruct it to be less strict. He offered no apology at all- either then or when I initially approached him after the round.
Face to face, I expressed my displeasure, pointing out everyone in the group had golfed at Maui Nui on every visit going back years- and all were wearing purchases from prior years- but certainly wouldn’t by buying again or coming back-because of his attitude. Still no apology, he walked over picked up 4 cards and handed them to me. He said they were four free rounds- any finished with “the carts are new and were programmed wrong” Still not a word like “we are sorry”
The four of us left and debated whether to go back. We decided to give them a second chance and scheduled for the 15th, two days later.
This time the carts, while on the cart paths, only malfunctioned on 5 holes. When turning the carts in, we were asked how our round was. We told the cart guy the above. He laughed, saying “at least it has improved”
We demand of Golf Now a full refund. You are responsible for at least some minimal measure of control and review of the product you sell.
It was as bad as I have ever experienced
When we teed off no one- not the 3 people in the pro shop, not the cart people or the starter told us about a hole being added between 1and 2 to replace 17 which was closed for repairs. So we as would be expected followed the group in front of us (who were not told either) So we only played 17 holes.
The course got new carts that morning. On 9 of the 17 holes the gps was faulty, and the carts would not go forward, only a slow backup - and this happens on the cart paths. On one hole both of our carts had to back up over 100 yards, cross 2 other fairways, stopping and backing up over 6 separate times. My wife called the pro shop- reported the problem-and then the fun really began. The On duty manager was on the computer trying to fix the problem ( many had called in) and when she explained what was happening was told “Lady we got new carts today and the gps are screwed up” She then said what should we do? He said “ where are you? “ she told him the hole number and he said “ I can’t do anything unless you give me an exact location” She did , as best as she could, and the response was that’s not good enough . How many yards to the t box
During this there was no apology, no we will fix it- just rudeness. THEY COULD HAVE SIMPLY TURNED IT OFF!
After the round, I confronted him. Until I got specific with him, he still offered not one word of apology. When we were done, he decided to give us 4 passes for a second round.
We came back two days later. Guess what happened- AGAIN
I WANT MY MONEY BACK. Or we are done.
Don’t bother
We played with a nice gentleman from Oregon and his wife was along to watch. One hole was under construction and they had a temporary hole as #2. The course has a decent layout but was in terrible condition with many dirt and mucky areas and patchy fairways as if there had been water damage. (This was not mentioned before we booked)There was no Marshall and on the back nine, two men just drove by while we were on the 10th green and proceeded to 11 without saying a word. Then later on we were waiting at the tee for the group ahead when four men drove right up and announced to the group ahead that they were joining them on 18 and all eight people played the last hole. Unbelievable. My husband and I were going to buy golf shirts in the shop but we were not going to spend any more money at this course and will never return. The only good thing I have to say is that they just received new golf carts with all the bells and whistles.
Actually a generous rating
Course has new carts. The gps systems were off. Stopped the carts ON THE CARTPATHS on over half the holes. We had to back up over a third of the length of the course, and by trial and error find routes, sometimes a hole away, to go forward. Then the part that was totally uncalled for: My wife called in to explain we were stuck. The “gentleman” who she talked to didn’t apologize or explain, he talked as if it were her fault and said “I can’t help unless you tell me exactly we’re you are”
dave
need to put fairway markers on each hole d
saying hole number and distance per each tee box
Course in rough shape
This course has potential but is not close to equal to the other courses on Maui in the same price range. Really great staff. However, many greens are in bad shape. If you are using a GPS device to measure distance to the hole they are practically useless on most holes because the course must have changed quite a bit. Our device has never been off (++ 100 yards) so much on over half of the holes. The scorecards are rudimentary and show little detail. There are no bathrooms on the course. Hope this course gets major repair otherwise we’ll not be back.A lot of different skills of golfers on the course so play was slow.
