Hawaii Country Club

While this history and staff of this course is very impressive the actual course itself is in such terrible conditions. Crab grass growing on the greens, one of the fairways was straight clay, they tee boxes overgrown like I’ve never seen before. Rental clubs were an atrocious rate for the worst set of golf clubs I have ever seen.

Thank you for having me but there’s no way I’ll ever come back.

Monday Golf

I was excited to play Hawaii Country Club just from the name of it. I took for granted that it would be a traditional "country club". Unfortunately, I didnt read the reviews prior to committing to play. When I arrived, I pulled into a gravel parking lot and wasnt sure I was at the right place. The sign out off the street said it was a restaurant, Nui's. Right off the bat, I thought it could have been a country club at one time. The cart paths are in desparate need of repair, throughout the course. Fairways were patchy and need alot of attention. Course was not clearly marked for where to go from hole to hole. Sand traps were packed and in need of some grass removal. Forget about putting. Clumps of different kinds of grass made lining a put up the same as trying to win the lottery. Good thing it was a great day and had some good company.

Hawaii CC Play Review

The Hawaii CC was in very poor condition. The fairways were a combination of dirt and grass clumps. Greens were poorly cut and inconsistent. There were frisbee golfers impeding play. The positive was the staff as they were hospitable & friendly.

I would not recommend it or play it again.

Thanks for offering the opportunity to play.but it was not worth the money put forth. Sorry!
Robert

Hawaii Country Club is not a country club

Hawaii Country Club was not a well kept course. Most of the fairways are a mix of dirt and grass clumps. The cups looked like they had not been cut in a month. Frisbee golfers were everywhere and impaired pace of play. The staff was friendly. I do not recommend this course even to the weekend golfer. Not worth the money.

Fun course

If you like high tee boxes this course is for you. The greens and tee boxes are in good shape. There are patches of red dirt on the fairways. For the pride of a round this is a bargain course to play, but specially if you want to get a practice in with multiple hills and valleys. Staff was very friendly.

Fair value If you set expectations right

This is the cheapest 18 hole course on the island for a non-resident, for a reason. The conditions are what you might find at a typical rural course on the mainland that runs on a shoestring budget. Super Slow/shaggy greens, patchy fairways you can lose a ball in that have more weeds than grass, goofy but kinda fun layout, etc.

That all being said, it’s a good cheap place for a beginner to play without pressure, or a place for a visitor on a budget to shake off the rust before moving on to nicer courses.

The ranger was a friendly guy and the woman in the shop was as nice as could be.

Set your expectations correctly going in and it can be fun.

The absolute worst I’ve seen it!

Okay, with the proper course management, this would be a great place to play but whoever owns this course should be ashamed of themselves for letting it get into this kind of condition. The greens are a mixture of grass and weeds and consistency from green to green is non-existent. Sand traps are a joke with a blend of sand, red dirt and rocks but at least there’s now some sand. It used to be just red dirt and rocks so that’s been improved. The biggest shocker was that the fairways seemed to be modeled after one of those old time cowboy westerns where there’s clouds of dust blowing down the center of town! The only thing missing was the tumble weed. Seriously, driving down the 16th fairway (dirt way), we were caught in a dust storm. Honestly, this course has been in pretty bad shape for awhile now but by far, this is no longer playable in any way shape or form. Unless it starts raining here again, this won’t get any better so save your money and play elsewhere.

It’s a quick 18

We play preferred lies in fairway, greens ok & play is quick. Larger groups always let us play through. So we enjoy it. Also, wonderful Padthai at kitchen next door.

Hawaii Country Club

The views were amazing. The track needs a lot of water. 4 greens were ok. Nobody in front or behind so we had a good laugh. It’s what you get for 30 bucks.

Don't waste your money

I should of read the reviews. The price on golfnow was only $5 less than the regular rate. There were no fairways, just dirt and weeds, the golf course is mixed in with a disc golf course, they allow 6 or more per group, poorly marked, but considering the poor condition of the the course, the greens were fair. That's the best I could say. I really don't know how they got 3 stars on golfnow.

Rough shape

The course is in very rough shape as they don't water the fairways only the greens. So it's pretty much dirt, which sometimes made it difficult to figure out where to hit. Greens were a different type of grass, kind of long so difficult to see breaks.

It is one of the oldest courses on Oahu. Staff was very friendly, nice thai food snack shack. I should've figured the price was too good to be true. We had fun though, probably a great and challenging course when its green.
