Tamarack Golf Club
About
Tamarack Golf Club is a course that will test your shot-making skills yet it is still player-friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. Pete Dye designed the course with tight, sculpted fairways and undulating greens that come in a range of sizes. The layout offers plenty of challenges with water or sand coming into play on every hole. The golf course will test your accuracy but it is not as difficult as many other Dye designs. The third is one of the toughest holes. A severely undulating green protected by deep bunkers makes placement vitally important on this par 3. The 15th is one of the back nine's more challenging holes. It presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity with a myriad of teeing options. Water lines the entire right side and the two-tiered green is flanked with bunkers to the front and right.

This I just one of the holes I believe 17 Photo submitted by fid12602 on 09/18/2013
Tamarack. Nope
Course was poorly maintained. Greens were furry and yet not very receptive. The course is well overpriced. They don’t offer nine hole rates. The tee times were stacked in a way that forced a 5 hour round . This is a must to avoid in the Naperville area.
Luckily I didn't pay much
This course is highly dilapidated. The fairways themselves we're pretty good, but everything else is a mess. The clubhouse looks like it's falling apart, the parking lot and grounds are filthy, the quality of the bunkers are terrible (hard as a rick and no rakes in site), all grass outside of the fairways is mostly just dirt, goose poop everywhere, the large mower they used was pumping out exhaust like a coal factory, there was no cart service, and there was no food at the snack shop other than bottle drinks and a handful of candy bars. I played here 10 years ago and it was a very different experience.
Not what it once was....
The first time I played Tamarack, it was beautiful, well maintained, bunkers were perfect, etc....What a difference a few years makes!! I took my wife there on 8-16-21 and WOW. Some of the bunkers had plantation growing out of them, rocks and pebbles, and no rakes anywhere to be found!! They ran out of score cards, a lot of the cart path had pot holes throughout, the greens had numerous little divots on them. Very disappointed and more than likely will not return. The staff was the best part of the round, very friendly.
Great value local course
Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were great condition. No food was available at the turn. Overall a great value.
Maintain the course
This course would be great if it was maintained.
Looks like every green was hit with one million craters from outer space and never fixed by a player or the course. Business model seems to be charge $$ and never spend $$ to maintain. Dog poop.
Also pin placement sucks. Should not be making pin placements the most difficult possible locations on the greens when the players golfing are all hacks. Also does not help pace of play.
Get it together.
Average
Fairways and greens were fast and in good shape. All water hazards were real nasty, dirty looking. Sand traps were more like dried dirt than sand. No rakes at any sand traps. No water coolers for refilling water bottles. That would not have mattered if the beverage cart came around during our round. On an afternoon that was into the low 90's and a 1:00pm tee time, we only saw the beverage cart once over 18 holes. One lemonade does not last 18 holes. We got stuck behind a group of teenagers that obviously were never taught course manners. 18 holes took 4-1/2 hours with no break at the turn.
Dirt bunkers
Disappointing - overall course conditions were much less than expected. The bunkers were dirt and rocks, the fairways head patches of dead grass or mud, and the greens were not in good shape. Had played there last year and was surprised at how poor conditions had were.
First time playing here
It's a good course. But the staff needs to improve signage, regarding direction towards the following hole. We were searching for the following hole several times during our round. This should not be an issue.
Mixed Review
Tamarack has a lot going for it.
The staff is welcoming and friendly, both in the pro shop and restaurant.
The greens are in great shape. Consistent speeds and rolling well.
The tees were in good shape and the fairways were running firm and fast.
The layout is good. Challenging with many changes of directions and water hazards in play.
Again, a lot of good.
Unfortunately, that positive is met by a significant drawback - the condition of the bunkers. They are in dreadful shape. The liner, which is typically beneath the sand, can be seen on many of the traps. Most have been ground down to either a thin layer of sand or dirt from which golfers are asked to play. My friend and I actually debated taking relief from the sand, if we hit into them. Conditions were just that bad. Some of the bunkers, and a few of the tees, have been allowed to grow out, which would be fine if they had been filled with dirt and grass seed. Unfortunately, it looks like they’ve just been let go. Several were just overtaken by weeds. The reason all this is troubling is that there are a lot of sand traps at Tamarack and the conditions used to be much better.
Again, there’s a lot of positive at Tamarack. Just be warned that until an investment is made in renovating the bunkers, there will be a trade off in the sand.
Great escape but needs a little refinement
Great course layout and challenging to be accurate. The rough could of been cut lower for the holiday. Much wasted time for people looking for balls. I had a group playing as a six person group really holding up the rest behind them. Despite, I enjoyed the course again.
Heard this place used to be nice
For the price, not even close to worth it. No sand in any of the bunkers and just in general looks run down.
Bunkers
All the bunkers needed a lot of work!
No sand in any of them just dirt and mud
Staff is horrible
I booked a pre payed tee time. It was for 18 holes with a CART! I Showed up to the course and was told there was no carts because the course was wet. Not Cart path only or 90 degree even? I asked if there was any pull carts available they told me no. Then when I told the staff that I paid for a cart and that I needed a refund if it was walking only. I was told it’s the same price to walk as it is to ride. I’ve played golf for over 25 years on multiple courses I’ve never been told it’s the same price to walk as it is to ride. Also I brought my dad with a heart condition with hopes of getting out to play. The course could at least contacted me and let me know it was walking only. They wonder why this place gets bad reviews they treat there golfers like trash
