Mission Hills Club
About
Mission Hills Country Club in Northbrook opened in 1926 and over the years it has become a local favorite. The championship golf course measures to 2,897 yards from the back tees. Although it may seem relatively short by modern standards, the layout is spread across more than 130 acres of rolling woodlands that provide a spacious feel. Mature trees tightly line the fairways and there are several holes where water comes into play. This seemingly mild golf course is tougher than it first appears. It will test both your accuracy and course-management skills. Mission Hills Country Club's finishing hole is a demanding par 4 that features the most difficult green to putt with a lake to the left and sand bunkers all along the right. You'll want to keep your approach below the hole when you attempt to tackle the green.

Tough times at Mission Hills
The Mission Hills course is in very rough shape. They seriously need to consider investing in this course if they want it to contend with neighboring courses. The fairways were in very bad shape and there was not one green that did not have patches of burnt grass. All of the cart parths were covered in potholes renderring them virtually undriveable. The facilities were messy and it was obvious that not much care was put into maintenace. I would not consider playing this course again in the future.
Rebuilding
Was a member there when it was private. Course has changed hands and is now public. Has great potential but needs work. If new owners start improving the course it can become equal to its former glory. Wish them the best. Will probably play again this year. Good course for the average to below average golfer in its present condition
Course changing hands
The course is in the middle of changing hands and the change has not been kind to the course.
Much neglected everything.
Exceptional potential, but not in its current state.
Mission Hill Golf Course
The course was dried out, weeds everywhere - on the fairways, in the bunkers. the bunkers were not sand but hard dirt and totally over grown. I will never play there again - not worth the time or the money. my experience was terrible from the start.
What once was a beautiful, well-maintained course has become a poorly maintained scrub course.
No starter, no ranger, thus golfers just walk on the course at any time; the course is not watered, weeds in the sand traps, garbage thrown in the ponds and on the course, and when brought to the attention of the pro shop staff (only one young person), we are told that the owners won't hire enough maintenance staff to help with the conditions. The woman's locker has a broken stall with a handwritten note OUT OF ORDER. The carts are dirty and left over food and pop cans are not removed before assigning the cart to another golfer.
This once beautiful course is in terrible condition.
Bad Condition
Was very excited to play Mission Hills with three friends but quickly became disenchanted by the conditions. Pretty much everything about this course looks like they have given up maintaining the course. The and traps were barren of sand and loaded with weeds, the fairways were very dry, the roughs were covered in leaves and the greens were very pock marked. Thought this was a great bargain for $30 but feel like this would be a rip off at half that price.
A course that time forgot!
My first time here so I was not prepared for the course condition. It's definitively not what I would call 'country club' ready! On the plus side the greens were fast and in decent condition. There is a ton of potential with the right management but I will skip it until that happens.
Mission hills have given up
Brutal conditions. Sand traps are covered in weeds. Tee boxes are destroyed. Greens are dead. This used to be a well kept course but it seems they have given up. Luckily I only paid $15 through groupon. Won't be back
Horrible Course Conditions
Was a member here for 14 years when it was private and last played in July 2014 so we thought we would play here again and see how it is doing. The course is in terrible condition, especially with all the rain we have had. Very brown and the sand traps have not been raked in months and are in need of some additional sand and weed removal. I have never seen weeds like that in a sand trap, even the county or forest preserve courses are in better shape than this course. I would be embarrassed to call this a golf course as management. A little course maintenance would go a long way. Pace of play was very slow and never saw a ranger. What was once a hidden gem is now a cow pasture with 18 holes. The only saving grace is that Victor in the Grill Room is still there and he provides great service.
Disappointing
Only paid $28 and probably not worth that. Course in terrible condition especially the bunkers. Narrow fairways but otherwise easy track. Don't go unless your round is free.
Disappointed
I played here last 25 years ago. The course was once very nice. Now, the grass was very long, the sand traps were low on sand and were full of weeds. The fairways had big brown patches. On top of that the grill was closed in the middle of the day. I will not be going back.
Go Elsewhere
This is simply a poor excuse for a golf course. While it was quite inexpensive, I would have gladly paid more for a nice course. Is there no sand in Chicago? All traps were like cement with weeds growing out of them -- totally unplayable. Fairways were okay, greens very slow, rough so long and poorly mowed that many players actually lost balls in the rough. It will not be difficult to find a much better maintained golf course. The staff was great. Such a shame the course has deteriorated so badly.
Management change
Had a nice time , they are going through changes in management so the golf course is a bit rough . The staff made up for it by taking real good care of us
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY - Worst golf experience I've ever had
I've been playing golf for over 20 years and have never had such a miserable golf experience caused by the course.
To save myself time I'm am going to make a list of things from my experience.
1. First, all four of us had a separate but equally as rude experience by the security guard at the drive in entrance.
2. No Starter or Rangers (Slow moving 5.5 hour round!!!)
3. Our golf cart ran out of battery twice!! they had to send a new cart out both times.
4. No water on the course
5. Speaking of the course, I have never seen such a poorly kept course.
- the sandtraps were rock pits with weeds
- tennis courts between holes looked like a nuke hit it
- cart pathways was like an off road experience...the blacktop was cracked and falling apart the whole way.
- Ponds looked like sewage dumping grounds.
- I wish I took pictures....
6. Food was terrible
7. Locker rooms were moldy, dirty, and disgusting
I honestly just can't express how bad this place was. Please do yourself a favor and try a different course.
Neglected!
I'm sure this prior private venue has seen better days. What a shame! Trees need attention, sand traps need sand and weeds removed, and the greens are in desperate need of attention. Not sure what the new owners are doing, but it appears it's being run down to ultimately closure and redevelopment.
Will never go back
Went there on a deal from GolfNow and will never go back. The course is extremely poorly kept. Their website stresses a 4.5 hour round and my round took 5 hours. The clubhouse is set up oddly with no signage as to where the pro shop is. There is no starter, so we got passed by 2 groups and started 20 minutes late. The greens seemed like they hadn't been watered in months, even with recent rain. The rough was so thick that you would lose a golf ball hit into it. The course just seemed to be unkempt and uncared for. I'm sure it used to be nice, but it's a sham now. Would never recommend and will never go back.
What a shame!
Something has definitely changed from when we were there last season! The course has been completely neglected. The cart paths are like a carnival ride, the "sand traps" had little or no sand but a great deal of mud as well as several sets of tire tracks in them. The greens were slow and pock marked and the tee boxes were in deplorable condition!
Terrible course
Greens poorly kept. Don't know what they're doing with the bonkers. Should fill in the bunkers or maintain them. All sorts of plants growing in them. Not coming back
