Elliot
Elliot was in fair condition the day I played it. It was early April and greens were slower than they normally were. Traps were not raked but again early in the year. Sand in traps does however need to be upgraded.
Play Elliot - Great Golf Course
I have played Elliott since it opened in the '60's. It is my "home course". I live 2 miles away and can be there in less than 10 minutes.
It is always in great condition. Rich, the Superintendent, takes great care of the course. Big greens, light rough, wide fairways and still a lot of trees. (We have lost a lot of Ash trees due to Emerald Ash Borer) The only problem is the "sand" traps. We call them gravel pits. And they don't drain very well.
Elliot will definitely challenge you and provide a very good experience. The clubhouse is good, personnel friendly and helpful, easy parking and good location.
Great Value Hot Deal At Elliot
Good condition for playing on a hot / humid day. Water canisters were well located with ice cold water. Pace of play worked well; 4 1/2 hours and walking. Sand traps in adequate condition and would benefit with more than two rakes; at least 3 rakes or 4 would be more sufficient.
Wide open challenge!
Play here regularly probably 10 times a year. This is an above average public golf course! The park district does a great job during prime summer season and the greens are very fast and challenging after mid june. The layout is great and very challenging for advanced golfers while still offering shorter tee boxes for less experienced players. Most of the drives are wide open and trees are more scarce. The staff is great and do a good job like most all the park district golf staff. This is a tough course from the back tees and plays longer.
side notes: pace of play could always improve but isn't too bad, can't beat the value of twilight/online rates!!! they do offer golf boards and golf bikes (never used them but definitely cool option) not a fan of the foot golf but I get it, the par 5s are the highlight for me with big dog legs and bunker guarded greens, this course can be VERY WINDY so be prepared, practice facilities are excellent with many practice greens and a shag field
Solid city course!
Year after year this course is consistent with it's fast greens. Fairways is in good shape. Sand traps are a bit rocky, and a few with drainage issues. Tee boxes could be a little more manicured.
poorly maintained
After growing up playing this course I went back to play it again. Nothing has changed. Except the fact that they have added "foot golf" on fridays and Saturdays this is the focus there. Golfer be prepared the be pushed aside for housewives and their rug rats. This is proof Rockford golf is going down hard. I must have missed the fact that their watering system is no longer working. fairways are dried out and very burned, the rough is the hardest ground I have ever had to play out of. I will post one positive the greens were in very good condition and soft.
Now the staff, extremely rude and almost nonexistent. The "starter" for lack of a better term. was more interested in showing of the new stand up golf carts to someone who was not waiting to start his round instead of helping those waiting for a cart and to get going. made us wait and start off the back "for foot golf reasons" although the front was wide open. The lady at the check in station was rude and very short. I work in customer service and you deal with the customer in front of you instead of stopping mid conversation and answering the phone.
In short if playing municipal courses play County courses in the rockford area it'll be a much better experience.
under rated
Elliott has matured into a very nice course. Well maintained with excellent greens
great features
The course is in very good condition for November.
Starter works well to get you into another group going off. Makes it an enjoyable time.
Very typical Rockford Park District.
11:30 tee time, started everyone on the back 9, got through the back 9 rather quickly, except now they started putting players off the front 9 instead of the back as they originally started. The golf course offered no explanation and didn't give us coming off the back 9 the right of way, we just had to get in line with the rest of them. This was absolutely unacceptable. This behavior is very typical of all Rockford Park District golf courses. They wonder why more players aren't visiting their courses, yet think behavior like this is the way a golf course should be run and their customers won't mind and should understand. This DOES NOT and WILL NOT happen at any other golf course in the area. Elliot is nice, but you can get better service and nicer courses for the same money without the Rockford Park District nonsense.
Blast with Friends
Had a great time walking this course for nine with a foursome.
The weather was perfect but the evening closed in on us and we couldn't see the little white ball after the 8th hole. All in all we enjoyed this course and time well spent with good friends.
Typical Rockford Park District
Keeping the idea that Rockford used to be a GREAT place to play golf the Rockford Park District continues to upset everyone who try to support them. No rangers to keep up the pace of play. 2 somes are allowed to share the same clubs. 5 somes are allowed on any day of the week. At the turn when you try and address these issues, the staff suggests that you call the park district main office. Awesome! I understand that this is not there doing, but you won't find this behavior at allowed at any other golf course in the surrounding area. I literally dread playing Rockford public courses anymore because of how paying customers are treated and with no regard to educate.
ELLIOT GOLF COURSE
THE COURSE IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE,, THE GREENS ARE DECEPTIVLY QUICK. probably BECAUSE THEY HAVE AS HEADS GREENSKEEPER A PERSON FROM FORREST HILLS NOW. COURSE IS BETTER SHAPE THAN ALDEEN IMHO.
Fair all the way around- good for Rockford
I played 18 holes in 3 hrs. The course was in good shape considering all the rain lately. Some of the fairways were very narrow, and this course isn't over the top gorgeous by any means, but it has some nice features like hole number 10 where you have to lay up, cross some water but miss the big bunker that protects the pin. Overall, the best public course in Rockford area.
fun place to play
Elliot is trying everything to make golf more fun for everyone. From skateboard style golf carts and a golf bike you can ride around as you play to 15 inch cups they use for fun leagues and tournaments. They even play soccer golf. Regular golf was fun too
Huge greens challenge your ability to two putt.
Very nice for the money, the course includes something for every level of golfer.
Fast Greens
We payed ahead of time to make sure we had tee time.
We had a foursome and was rushed because their was a two some behind us the whole 18 holes. Would have let them play through but their was another two some after them. So it would not have did any good. The two two somes should have been paired up. That way we would not have been rushed all day.
Slow play for a dead course
The course isn't very tough. You can spray it all over the place and make par without a problem. All the par fives are reachable in 2 and and almost all the par 4's are cookie cutter with a fairway bunker on one side. For it being such a straight forward course that is hard to lose balls at, be prepared to wait on every hole and expect a 5 hour round.
