The Preserve at Oak Meadows
About
Formerly Oak Meadows Golf Course, The Preserve at Oak Meadows reopened in 2017 with a new name and following extensive renovations over a two-year span. Formerly a 27-hole layout on 288 acres, the transformation was a conservation and recreation project by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County that took the 1920s-era design and modernized it for drainage and environmental sensitivity. From a playability standpoint, conditions will be more durable in the face of flooding, while eco-friendly highlights include improved water quality within Salt Creek, increased local flood relief by 20 million gallons and the enhancement of an environmental refuge for both golfers and wildlife.

Renovated Beauty
I've played here twice so far this year and both times had great conditions and experience. I love the course layout and would say it’s crucial to get off to a good start here. The first 5 holes are your scoring stretch. The new clubhouse is very nice and the staff seems to be very friendly. Hope to get out here a few more times this year.
Well Done
Haven’t played here in years. They did an outstanding job on the remodel. Can’t wait to run this track again.
Are they serious ?
The course was in terrible condition. , pace of play was ehhh , unfortunately they think they are something more than they really are. I will not be back. Take that $400 and put it to the course not the clubhouse.
Excellent Course!
If you can control your drives then this course has an ability for 90 shooters to hit 80’s! Great course all around, greens don’t break as much as they might seem so typically aim for the hole and you’ll sink your putts!
Immaculate
Best course I have ever played in the Chicagoland area. Incredible course layout and conditions.
A Nice Gem
I try to play this course at least once a year. It has really matured from the first time I played it, which is when it first opened. Conditions of the course were perfect and greens were a bit quick. Only issue was the course was getting ready to aerate the greens and there was a lot of sand spread on the approaches to them. If you have not been to this course, you need to go play it.
Great Remodeled Course
First time playing new course. It was a very enjoyable round. We had rain delay but course drained very well, no wet holes. Beautiful mature trees, and lynx traps. The greens were really nice. It made you have to think about course management and club selection. Club house was good, very attentive staff.
Golfer
Course is very scenic and course layout requires strategic play. Greens were in good condition.
New clubhouse is great, can have a couple of cold ones and lookout over the course and see the approaches to the 18th hole.
New Clubhouse completely misses the mark
Preserve was in pretty decent shape yesterday. It's a solid 4 star golf course but receives an extreme amount of play. As I predicted the shortly after the redesign opened - several tee boxes were just too small and that's now the case with several of them being completely ripped up. Fairways are also getting pretty divot laced so that can be hit and miss. Sand traps are just okay many have either lost sand/have very little sand in the bottom or don't drain well to dry the sand enough to have consistent conditions. The on course halfway house after 4th and 13th holes with bathrooms has a nice selection of orange whips and other beverages. Driving range (usually off mats) chipping/sand practice areas as well. The practice putting green next to 1st tee isn't reflective at all of the greens on course....the green speed is...but this practice green is way too small and a throwback to when it was a private country club. They ripped up a really good and large practice green that was built for the redesign reflective of greens on course....and they should look reinstall that green back (there's still plenty of room for it next to the clubhouse/proshop!)!
All of the employees we interacted with wanted you to enjoy your experience. $70-$75 during the week is a bit too much freight and even more so when they jack up rates on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I don't play here as often as I'd like to....it should be $50 to maybe $60 at most including cart. To my knowledge they don't offer senior rates and they should offer residents of Du Page County who are paying taxes for the Forest Preserve a break on the rack rates?
What were the Du Page County Forest Preserve executives smoking when they approved the new clubhouse plans?? A wonderful opportunity was at hand to design/build a top notch clubhouse to match a pretty top notch course.... predictably they screwed the pooch. At the turn there are now bathrooms and drinking water that are extremely convenient......but to get any other beverage or food item you have to walk at bit and then completely trudge up a flight of stars to reach the bar area. Nice days they'll have window open. When the weather is either too hot or cold you'll probably be forced go through a door to reach the bar area. It will take you least a couple of minutes to get to the window and another minute or two to navigate back down those stairs carrying your food and beverages.....what rocket scientist thought that up? No locker rooms or showers. The bathrooms are pretty small in the restaurant section....some restrooms are inside near the pro shop but those were marked for employees only. There's a meeting room (maybe 100 capacity or so??) between Proshop/restaurant sections. Instead of what easily could have been a 1st class transition between nines.... the 10th (long par 3 with a fronting water hazard) will continue to back up with several groups on busy days. Yesterday we had to wait 10 minutes for the group in front of us before we could begin our back nine!! Canned beer selections are not the very same selections they can offer you from the course halfway house. The clubhouse canned beer selections are worthless. You can get an Oberon and other decent beers on course after 4 and 13.... but definitely not at the clubhouse at the turn - because they have 10 beers on tap in the restaurant (at least the was reasoning given to us by staff). A full restaurant menu is not available at the current time as they still need to hire and train additional help. There's a nice patio area outside on the deck some of which has a view of the 18th green. But they made certain that a lot this deck is not covered providing a sun baked view which also will feature a blazing setting sun. Four star course with two star at best new clubhouse - big disappointment so 3 stars overall.
Hey u000003881268 - please take time to post your own review. Did you know that one of the rating categories are about the amenities? I really appreciate that you took the time to read my review and pleased you noticed this review tended to focus that particular aspect. You can easily avail yourself of other reviews right below this including several I previously submitted for this course which are more about the course and overall course conditions.
Others reading the review will now be armed with pertinent info of what to expect.
Here's hoping your future play at The Preserve you won't have to wait more than 10 minutes at the turn. The Preserve's ongoing issue with that will continue unfortunately. May the golfing gods be kind to you.
I can't believe I just wasted all that time not reading about the golf course!
