Sandy Hollow is a public jem. In great shape right now. Greens are rolling great too. Play this coures, you won't be dissapointed!
Amazing customer service from the Golf Pro
The Golf Pro at Sandy Hollow is amazing! She was very attentive and worked so well with our group even throwing in a few jokes. We absolutely loved Ann and the park district could use more people like her!
Two Par 3’s are too long
Otherwise this is a nice public course with great rates. The one problem I noted in the title is that two par 3’s are unreachable in one stroke for the average golfer. One is 225 yards from the regular tees and the other is 191 yards straight uphill so it plays 225 yards.
Can't beat the price
$10 walking price, you can't beat it. Easy course to walk. And the staff is1st class.
Nice Course
Nice layout and relatively upscale. Lot of walkers, but not so slow that it affected play. Many long par 4s compared to typical courses in our area. Not much difference between longest and shortest tees. Many mature trees lining the fairways. Beautiful greens with some interesting breaks. Few tricky dog-legs. Would help to have played the course and understand where to position and the roll of the greens. Not a course for beginners.
Enjoyed the day. Good beginner/intermediate course. Little bumpy driving around with the cart it seems. Otherwise a good course.
Sandy hollow Rkfd Il. 61104
The price was right, the companionship was excellent, the service was excellent, the weather perfect. The course was in great shape.
Thej
I thoroughly enjoyed playing the golf course the green fees were very competitively priced and have a wonderful day
Sandy in Great Shape
Even though the Dutch Elm disease killed nearly 150 trees this tree lined course represents a challenge to even the best golfer. The fairways were in great shape but as usual the greens are firm so you need to play for the bounce into the green. All in all the course looks cleaner without the trees and from the looks of the plantings they are tightening up the fairways.
Beautiful day
The course is on the smaller side but is well kept for the most part. The greens were hard and made for challenging approach shots.
Best public course in Rockford for the money.
This course is a challenge, well maintained, as well as fun to play. I come from 30 miles plus away to play several times a month.
Always a pleasure..
Sandy Hollow was in excellent shape especially after going thru another downpour 2 days prior. They also left the pin placements from the previous first round play of the city tournament. First time I walked 18 in a while. Losing all the trees to ash borer actually has made this course look like a new place to play.
Local favorite!
This is a local favorite for good reason! The course has a great layout with its share of easy and difficult holes. The grounds crew does a great job maintaining it including some great greens that will roll nicely in the summer months. It is a bit shorter with only three par 5s two of which are basically long par 4s. The par 4s however are what make the course shine in my opinion. They are mostly short but challenging with many dog legs and trickier greens. You basically never want to be long on your approach shots. Lots of beautiful trees. The staff here are great and they handle the course with it's large influx of players with great efficiency. Pace of play could be a little better but that's to be expected. Best time to play is a twilight round during the summer teeing off around 430 or 5 and watch the sun go down while enjoying the many elevation changes.
side notes: best value period! one of the longest (also best designed) par 5s in town: hole 9, front 9 plays very quick when course isn't packed, saturday is slowest day and during summer will have packed out tee times! this is usually the most played course in rockford, only complaint is there is no blue tee boxes but experienced golfers just play back for a longer course, no golf range available, greens are awesome keep it up! also favorite opening hole in rockford
