Excellent overall facility
I hadn't been there in a few years so seeing the new facilities was very nice. Everything is well done. Course in very good shape, greens fast. Only issue is that the warm up is off mats instead of grass. Other than that an excellent public course experience.
A new favorite
Great course in great condition run by staff that are down to earth and friendly. Great value too
Challenging course - water on 3/4 of the holes and penalizing rough and some narrow landing areas. The kind of place that you can hit a 300+ yard drive +/- wind and still bogey.
For 16 holes the course is perfect... they just need to cut down some trees off the tee on 17 and 18. :)
Great layout. Conditions are always top notch. Greens may have been the fastest I've played anywhere this year. Bunkers were perfect.
Had issues with pace of play on a prior visit, no problems this day.
When recommending this course I always suggest arriving early (90-ish minutes) to take advantage of their range and short game practice area (and their bar is excellent too).
Great course. Just need 2 trees to the left of 18 tee to fall over.
Great experience at Mistwood!
This was our group's first time at Mistwood and every aspect of it was exceptional. The staff is outstanding and anticipates needs. Free and easy with recommendations and helpful with answers to questions. The course was great. The facilities are wonderful. The restaurant was a crown jewel. We drove an hour and a half to get there and won't hesitate to do it again!
We love playing this course. It is in great condition. It is quite challenging. The staff is friendly.Love the practice facilities and that included with your golf green fee as the cart and all the practice that you want
Highly recommend
This is a gem. A private experience for public golfers. Kelpie's Corner on the back nine provides great drama for any match. highly recommend.
Great course!
All around excellent. Nothing else to say, every aspect of the facility is great!
Make the trip to play this course
Mistwood Golf Course is very challenging and yet not overly long. There are many dog legs, water hazards, and deep sand traps but it is still forgiving even if you don't hit every shot straight, The greens and fairways are immaculate and they allow you to hit practice balls before your round. The clubhouse is beautiful and the dining area is top notch as is the food. There is lighter fare near the practice area with a bar and sandwiches. Every staff member is not only knowledgeable but friendly and helpful. Don't miss the chance to play this fantastic course and facility.
Excellent overall facility with an interesting golf course
Mistwood is one of the great daily-fee facilities in the Chicagoland market with a blend of an upscale "member-for-a-day" and Scottish vibes. The practice center is so complete it has its own full-service bar and grill, in addition to the more official restaurant, The Tavern, which is a great dinner spot and overlooks the course with indoor or outdoor seating. I got the crab cakes and a speciality Moscow Mule cocktail after 18 - very refreshing. Green fees include rangeballs and access to the chipping area. Come early and stay late at Mistwood.
The golf course is a 1990s links-inspired layout by Ray Hearn that has a lot of wispy grass, mounding and bunkers, but also a large amount of water hazards. Tee shots require precision. When you play the par-5 8th hole along the huge loch, you look across it and make out some golf holes, and it's so far away you wonder if it's even the same golf course. Alas, that's "Kelpie's Korner," Nos. 14-17, that are very challenging (the par-5 15th tore me up - ball in hand) and drama filled. We took a cart at twilight but I saw some walkers out there, so that was nice to see, the routing appeared pretty easy to walk.
Mistwood is a bit of a hike from downtown Chicago, about 45 minutes, but easily accessible from southwest suburbs like Naperville.
Consistently Good but way too expensive peak season
See my review 4/25/19 below for further info. Mistwood is always well maintained and all the facilities are top notch - great practice facilities and wonderful food/beverage post round. A really fun routing and course. $50 after noon spring rate was in effect which made the experience reasonable....they are already charging high season rates in late April. There's so much good golf in Chicago land what's the point of paying $75 to $110? "Private experience" but public and it costs twice as much as many other just as decent courses? You still have to deal with a packed tee sheet no matter how nice the employees are. And you can count on entitled slow players in front of you with absolutely no business playing the blue or back tees at this place. For me it's a spring time or fall treat. I skip Mistwood high season....don't miss it.......but please do go ahead and treat yourself once.....heartily recommend but your wallet will be a lot lighter if you play here often.
Great course, good pace of play.
Thoroughly enjoyed playing this course. I'm a 14.1, so decided to play from the Blue tees initially. Played the back from the black tees.
Course in good shape and done in less than 4 hours.
Great Course - Gem in Chicagoland Area
Thoroughly impressed with this course. The course condition is top notch. Unlike anything I’ve seen in the IL. Interesting layout where you get through 13, and then you start the Loch St. James loop with 14-16 adding to the fun. It’s scenic, challenging, and well cared for. The on-site amenities were impressive with a nice range and practice areas. Had a terrible round personally, but I left with a positive impression of this course. Will be returning as this is one of the better ones in Chicagoland.
Stay away from my new favorite course
Played on the edge of a passing tropical depression and didn’t know if we would get the round in. We did with a 30 mph breeze. That said, everyone from the starter to the cart staff could not have been friendlier. The course was challenging in the wind but it wasn’t impossible. We really enjoyed ourselves and once some of these rules ease up, will happily return for another crack at the course and facilities. The only downside is I can’t putt to save my life, but the rest of my group drained a bunch so I guess it’s on me.
A Public Course with a Private Experience
Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville IL is a gem unlike any other golf club in the Midwest.
The course condition was superb, an intriguing layout, plenty of water and bunkers.
Worth the Treat
First time to play here since renovations. I was impressed. Every hole has been an improvement. I like that for the most part you can play the course visually without a roadmap. GPS in carts was helpful for yardages. They rolled the greens before play and we were in one of the earliest groups, yet surfaces were a little rough around the first few holes. 4:10 pace.
An all-around great experience
Simply put, Mistwood Golf Club is a five-star experience. I say this because they get everything right here, and that starts with the owner, who made every effort a few years ago to build the best, and that includes customer service. Starting with the golf course, Ray Hearn came back in to renovate it. Mistwood has a new clubhouse, a new golf shop, new banquet facilities, a state-of-the-art performance center (with dining) that might the best in the area and McWethy's Pub (named after owner Jim McWethy) that serves great food, cocktails and draft beer in a Scottish setting overlooking the terrific par-5 third. And back tp the golf course: It's playable, challenging and beautiful. And the holes are memorable.
Best facilities around
The experience starts when you walk up. You cannot see much of the course as much of the view of the course is blocked by the club house. Walking through the narrow passage from the parking lot to the practice area makes for a grand entrance. Amazing performance center with perfectly manicured grass all around. Within the performance center is a great bar which is next to the driving range. Great links style golf course with lots of water, fescue and deep sod bunkers. The round isn't cheap ($105 w a cart on the weekend) and during prime playing time rounds can be long 4.5 - 5 hours as people take in the scenery and also look for a lot of balls.
Top 5 public in Chicagoland
I've played Mistwood well over 25 times and every year the place just gets better. From the bag drop to the 19th hole, everything at Mistwood is just amazing. New clubhouse is stunning, pro shop is great, practice facility is ranked in the top 50, that's a great accomplishment. The course is always in pristine, I mean pristine conditions. Greens are like glass but they hold approach shots with no problem. Lots of blind shots but once you play it 2-3 times you'll be fine. I still wonder why Mistwood gets snubbed on websites such as golf digest etc. Easily in the top 5 public courses in Chicagoland. They increased their fees in 2016 but they normally are busy throughout the golf year. Mistwood well done, very well done!
Beautiful course...great layout. Course conditions were superb.
