ThunderHawk Golf Club

About
ThunderHawk Golf Course covers a diverse terrain of mature forests, marshland, and prairie. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. who made a commitment to preserving the natural terrain as much as possible, it was the first public course in Illinois to be certified by the Audubon Society. It has also been ranked as not only one of the top municipal golf courses in the state but in the entire U.S. as well. ThunderHawk is definitely a must-play if you're in the area. The layout balances challenging elements with more player-friendly features, offering a course that is versatile enough to accommodate players of all skill levels. The fairways are exceptionally wide with some room for error but there are a few tricky blind shots as well as strategically placed bunkers.

Great Tough Golf Course
This is a greatly manicured tough golf course. A little much for an average senior golfer but enjoyed my day on the course. Would recommend.
It’s been a few years since I played this course and it didn’t disappoint. It’s an hour drive from me but we’ll worth it. Beautiful course starter was very friendly for us out 10mins early
Thunderhawk a winner
Course, including greens and bunkers in excellent shape!! Tough but fair. Staff very friendly. It is a great venue!!
Beautiful Course
Great course, and will always come back, but play was a little slow today.
No Rangers to push a slow twosome ahead of the pack.
Cart charges were above the norm.

Best Course in Lake County
You can never go wrong choosing to golf at this course. From start to finish it’s hands down the best golf course in Lake County. It’s extremely well taken care of, and provides a private club feel despite being a public course. The only thing it’s missing is GPS in the golf carts. For a course this nice it’s a shame the carts are missing it, but it’s still an awesome round of golf.
Beautiful course
I have played Thunderhawk several times before and it is always in excellent condition. This was the first time playing earlier in the morning (8:10 tee time) and it was by far the best pace of play. This is a difficult course if you are not fairly straight off the tees, it’s definitely a course you need to use good course management.
Well designed course
The layout is beautiful and the greens and bunkers rswell maintained. There are multiple tees for a variety of looks.

Amazing course
This was a really beautiful course. Well maintained and very challenging. Cant wait to go back.
Excellent, scenic, demanding course.
This is my new favorite course in the Chicagoland area. Felt as if I was in northern Wisconsin. This course is extremely demanding, I strongly advise first timers to use GPS or do a drive up from the tee before hitting. Lots of challenging tee shots, some forced carries, and fairway bunkers. Course is in excellent shape, greens are fair. I kept driver in the bag all but 3 holes and came out on top of my group in the end. With cart it was $79, which is steep, but this course is a gem and you could save a few bucks golfing off peak hours. Course doesn't have GPS carts, which is the only downside, because if there ever was a course you needed them it would be this one. Definite bucket list course in the area.
Challenging, scenic track. Over watered.
Scenic course, no houses, lots of natural vegetation. Can be very challenging, corridors are wide but hazards line both sides of almost every hole. Several tee shots require forced carries, and determining the right line to take can be difficult.
Course is over watered, greens slow and sticky and fairways/tees spongy. Would be a much better course if it played firm and fast.
