Pheasant Run Resort is one of the Chicago area's most respected resorts. It offers an 18-hole golf course that is playable for a wide range of skill levels. The course is short at just over 6,300 yards from the back tees, but it still provides a fair amount of challenges. The fairways are tight and there are water hazards that come into play on a few holes. The bunkering is minimal but strategically placed to keep you on your toes. The front of the greens are invitingly wide-open and beginners will also appreciate that they are mostly flat and easy to score on. The golf course starts out with a tricky par 5 that doglegs right past the 200-yard marker and there is a water hazard that crosses the fairway. The back nine is slightly longer and also more challenging.

It was not advertised that the greens were not used instead they just put a hole in front of the normal greens. This made the course play really short as well as not being able to putt. I would have gone somewhere else if i had known the greens were not opened.
Nice place for fall golf
The course and greens were in excellent shape. Too many leaves made ball searches difficult, even in the fairway.
Course conditions were above average
Course had some challenging holes and comforting to the average golfer
A typical 2 sleeve day for me!
No problems with check-in for our 11:18 tee time. Make sure you play the right tees because 3 of the 5 par 3's are over 200 yards. There's 8 holes with water hazards. And, believe me, they're in play. The fairways tighten up considerably on the back 9 holes because of the trees. You may want to consider a 3 iron or Hybrid off the tee. There are a couple of (annoying) holes with "hogback" greens. This tract will give you all you want. The greens were in great shape and fairly easy to read. I would replay this course. It's fun! Oh, by the way, we played in 3 hours and 20 minutes. The only negative is, the parking sucks. There's only about 20 spaces within shouting distance of the pro shop. The starter will shuttle you out behind the mega-center before your round. Remember this, the starter goes home at 2pm. You have to hoof it back to your vehicle with your gear after that.
Fall Golf-great value
Course was in good condition, and it's Fall; no crowds!
Exceptional Experience!
Great course condition. Not too easy or tough. Pace was right on time. Very friendly staff. I'll be back again.
Nice track
I have played here several times over the years. The course is and has always been strait forward. Its always in good shape and staff is very nice. Its just kinda... Boring at times.
Great course for the value
Excellent staff, very friendly, and helpful.
Good course for the money
First time on course and enjoyed. Somewhat unusual layout with par 3's and 5's bunched together. Course was in really good shape.
Get there early to warm up
I was running late and didn't have time to hit a small bucket. Because of that I didn't take advantage with 2 of the 1st 3 holes being part 5s. Especially #3. A couple tight holes on the back 9. Nice little track with plenty of opportunities to score. Nice greens
Pheasant Run
Everything was great except we had at 2 full foursomes in front of us who insisted on searching all over the course for lost golf balls. Otherwise, everything was great.
Day in the trees
Decent course with a lot of trees. Greens were in good shape. Dropping off your clubs in the circle drive, then parking in the lot and walking back is a pain, but most times they will shuttle you in a cart.
Just ok
Short course. Greens rock hard. Not bad for discounted rate. No beverage cart so have to stock up on beverages which go warm on a hot day even with ice.
Cart Paths Only?!?!
Please take this review with a grain of salt...I called the day before to make sure it was not cart paths only, and I was told it was not...we had some rain overnight, so when we got to the course we were not informed it was cart paths only...once we got to the tee we saw the signs Cart Paths Only Throughout the Entire Course Today...after an overnight rain the possibility of this was inevitable...BUT!!! How can the course be too wet to drive a cart on, but not too wet to mow fairways and greens...hmmmmmm. 2000lbs mowers are okay, but 200lbs carts no way. Again, take this with a grain of salt...course is fine, people are courteous, pace of play was good (no one there)...but the fact I had two players that have health issues and can walk well made "Cart Paths Only" a disappointing experience for them as they watched the mowers cut the fairways.
Tough layout, greens were a mess
Would have been good to know they'd aerated the greens before we teed off. Not sure it's worth 41 to play with all the courses in the area. $35 maybe. It's a challenging track and if greens were in top shape would have been great. The pace of play was a bit slow because of the number of par 3's in the first 6 holes that bunched up the golfers. Fairways are tight and traps protect the greens well. Facility is nice, decent practice area, parking lot is pothole mine field.
Greens are soft, so you can attack the pin!
The course is in great shape early in the golf season. I like the fairway bunkers makes you think aggressive or conservative. Great course overall
Great Time
The course was in very good shape considering it was the end of March and there has not been much nice weather ahead of time.
Great Shape for December
A $14 hot deal was just the ticket for some December golf at a course I probably hadn't played in over 30 years for an under 3 hour round. Pheasant Run was in great shape with greens rolling true. It's an old school course - flat as a pancake with sand traps fronting many greens and enough water. During the high season this course is too tight/packed in (20 to 30 yard fairways and tree lined) and I can envision a 6 hour round with resort/beginner players taking forever to complete it. Starting out with a 530 yard par 5 with water on your 2nd/3rd shots followed by a 205 yard par 3, tight 480 par 5 another 195 par 3? Pace killer. Back nine features a couple of 450 yard par 4's followed by a 204 par 3? A lot of the holes seem to be either a half par more or less than they should be.....so you better score on the 6 par 4's less than 350 yards. Can recommend for the maintenance...very good....but can't overall recommend the course due to design and "playability" factor....too many other Chicagoland courses are much better. 4 stars this day.....3 stars summertime for certain.
Golf in December!
Being able to golf in December made it enjoyable in itself. The course was in good condition and free of most leaves. The cart path only requirement seemed unnecessary based on the relatively dry conditions.
