Orchards Golf Course
About
The Orchards Golf Club in Belleville offers an 18-hole championship course designed by Belleville native and former Masters winner Bob Goalby. With four sets of tees, the course appeals to a wide range of skill levels. The layout starts out with a gentler front nine where you won’t find any doglegs on the first six holes but as you move towards the back nine, the course gets more challenging. The golf course has an interesting and diverse mix of holes, with the seventh through the 14th being a particularly notable stretch. You’ll have to contend with abundant out-of-bounds and both water and sand come into play often. In addition to the golf course, the Orchards G.C. boasts a multi-level driving range as well as a large practice putting green with a sand bunker.

Great outing
Even though the course was busy on the day I played, I was able to join up with other players and had a lot of fun. The course was nestled in a subdivision of beautiful homes. I enjoyed the layout and found the second set of tees just about the right distance to challenge me. Real close to one of the best apple orchards and restaurant in Illinois which made this day a winner!!
Sweet Round at The Orchards
Enjoyed my first round and was impressed with the layout and the friendliness of the golf pro. Met and joined with two other golfers and had a blast. The sand traps were being worked on and were in rough shape overall. I would recommend playing this course.
Greens are almost completely overtaken by some fungus
It hurts me to say such harsh things about this course because I have always loved the layout. But the greens are simply unplayable! Bunkers are hit and miss but majority of them are rock hard and have no sand. Fairways are actually pretty nice; but some of the tee boxes have almost no grass. Talked to management afterwards and they said they just hired a new superintendent so let’s hope for some vast improvements quick!
Had to play before I leave
I wanted to play this course before I leave because I’ve heard mixed reviews on it since I got here. The staff was not very friendly for an early morning teatime but I wrote that off as personalities differ from place to place. The course was extremely saturated with all the recent rain and having an 8 some tee off in front of us In front of us didn’t make the experience that much better. We skipped a few holes to get the round under five hours. But the course layout has a lot of potential .
Good layout
Course in descent shape for this early but greens rather rough with quite a bit of “weed like” matter which caused a lot of Boucher
Don't play after rain!
It's not fair to judge the course based on how much water was on it, because I made the decision to golf after a day of rain. That being said, there are a ton of improvements the course needs to undergo. The tee boxes are horrible! Some have wild patches of grass while a couple are just dirt (mud)! The orchards used to be a really nice course to play. It's sad to see it has turned into an over priced dog track of a golf course. I play it once every year, and every year it looks worse! C'mon guys...get a greens crew that cares!
Fivesom
Very slow because five golfers were playing together and would not wave us thru. Come to find out three of them worked at the course and should have known basic golf etiquette.
Thank you for your review. We take pace of play and fivesomes very seriously. When we hear that some of our employees were playing a fivesome we definitely address it with that employee. If you could, please call Dale at (618) 233-8921 and describe the players that were in this group so that it won't be a problem again. Thank you.
Learn when to be Cart Path only...
It was Completely Dry Every other course within 50 miles was 90 degrees .... There were 3 damp spots on the Whole Course yet you had a Scramble and open play took over 5 hrs..... Ridiculous..... Should have been minimum 90 degrees could have been wide open..... I would have got my money back and played somewhere else had I known been dry 3 days.... Sun blazin. Not even water in fields or ditches....Maybe New Management is needed....
Orchards Review
Very nice course, great layout of the holes. The white tees are plenty long even though the card lists the yardage as 5,841 yards. No. 18 is a beast, 565 yard par 5 dogleg right with narrow, tree lined fairway. The fairways were very nice, the ball sat up nice even after the zoysia grass has turned yellow and gone dormant. Minor thing, but I didn't like the markers in the tee boxes, faded paint which made it hard to differentiate the colors. BUT NOW FOR MY MAIN COMPLAINT--THE GREENS. The greens a bad, very thin and infested with crab grass. Never mad a long put all day, but didn't expect to. I imagine the greens were even worse during the heat of summer. If I learn that the greens problem is corrected next season, I'll be back, otherwise I will wait another season or two and see what happens. Not worth the 30 mile drive to me to play on greens like I would expect on any municipal course anywhere in the area. Too bad, the course is so nice it deserves good putting greens.
help the greens
grat place great people, only down side was that the greens are in rough shape, but im sure they will correct it soon
Fairways are in great shape.
All greens had patches of a different type of grass. This made it hard to get a true straight putt.
If you like crabgrass, this is the place to play :-)
First time playing the Orchards this year and I was really disappointed. Crabgrass on tee boxes, fairways, and most greens. The rough (also thick with crabgrass in places) needed to be mowed...finding the ball in it was quite the challenge. I wouldn't recommend playing here unless you get a great deal and you can put up with the course conditions.
orchards2
Grass in fairways and greens improving a little.
Made the turn and found out a full course league just started. We stopped playing.
There was no mention of this at check in.
The Orchards
The Orchards is a great little course with a real fun layout. Course is in good shape with the only thing I would have liked were the greens to be a little faster, although with the elephants buried under some.....what's the expression...be careful what you wish for!
Excellent experience
The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great shape. Service was above average in the clubhouse and I was pleasantly surprised there was a refreshment cart out.
Thank you for your great review. We are glad you had a great experience with us. Come back and see us again real soon!
Hazards
Has a lot of hazards. IE: Houses, Water, Rough.
Course is spread out thru the Subdivision.
Thanks for the review, we hope to see you back out again real soon!
Randy,
Thank you for playing, and leaving a comment. We did just recently hire a new superintendent. We are working through some issues still left behind from the former superintendent. We are working hard at making the playing conditions at our course great for all of our guests. We hope that you will come back and see us again in the future.
