A tough track in good condition
Piper has two of the most interesting holes in Central Illinois
Staff friendliness
Still the least inviting staff in the area. . Always have been cold and unwelcoming.
Piper
The course was in great condition, my only complaint was with the pin locations and the speed of the green. Too many times to count today, any putt you hit ended up in the opposite fringe and many of the placements were incredibly difficult. Many very good shots onto the green were left with the only option to hit it to the fringe under the hole. Fantastic course but too challenging of greens for my skill level, on many holes a 3 putt was superb. With that said, will play again soon!
Good course and getting better
This course has made major improvements in the past few years.
Top Course for Capital Area.
Piper was in pretty great shape all things considered. It had rained a lot overnight and there was a large remnant of fog in places. I hadn’t played Piper in over 3 years. My game has certainly grown since the last time, cuz, while long from the whites, I still scored very well.
Flawless Conditions
The course was tough but fair. Greens are fast with tons of slope. It felt like we were playing a resort course. Flawless conditions ready for tournament play. Highly recommended course to play if you are in the Springfield area. Bring your A game this course is far from easy or short.
Wheres the ranger?
Love playing piper. Always in good shape. However pace of play is always horrible. Never anyone out policing the pace. Other golfers never recognize they are multiple holes behind and rarely even acknowledge the person behind them. Shouldnt have to wait 10-15 min per shot on a Wednesday afternoon.
OverRated
For the esteemed ratings and high rankings on different state of Illinois lists, I was disappointed in this course. That's not to say it isn't nice, but it is overrated. The turf conditions on were good and the greens rolled true but there wasn't anything spectacular. Tre course needs better markings in some places to navigate from green to the next tee. Play was slow for no apparent reason on a great weather day. Piper Glen is a nice course and for the discount price on TeeOff it eas a good value. But it is not a top 10 public course in the state.
Great golf rxperuence
Hadn’t played Piper Glen in a few years. It used to beat me up terribly. Returned this week and played the Senior Tees — at 77 I’m allowed to do that. Well it’s a different course from up there. Never a long hitter, greens in regulation were almost impossible. But from the up tees you have a chance and it’s a fun track. A couple holes are tricked out to the point you can hit relatively good shots and finish with a 8 or 9.
Great and challenging Springfield public course!
This course is in my backyard and is in great shape! It’s one of the most challenging courses I play. Maybe leave ur driver in the car when u play here... just make sure u find the fairway!
Best course in CIL
May be a little pricey compared to others in the area, but won’t be disappointed and they always have hot deals.
Nice Course With Good Challenges
Piper Glen is one of the better courses available to the public in the Springfield area. The course is usually in great shape and features a range of difficulty from hole to hole. Suitable for all but the most novice golfer. Rates are mostly in line with other courses of a similar caliber in this area. Overall, I always have a great time at Piper Glen.
Great course; Jerk in the clubhouse
Great course just down the road from my house...I play it frequently. Guys are normally great in the clubhouse, but the guy working today was very rude(I’ve never had a decent interaction with this particular employee). Otherwise good experience as usual, course is in great condition.
Piper Glenn
The course was in very good shape. The fairways were in great shape. My only complaint would be they mowed while the grass was wet and we had a lot of grass clumps all over the fairways. The staff were really courteous.
