Great layout
Excellent layout - challenging course - would have given 5 Stars but for the condition of greens need a little work
Great place
My husband and I had a great time. The course was beautiful and in good shape! We enjoyed ourselves and the staff was very friendly.
Enjoyable Round
Despite the windy conditions it was an enjoyable day. Temperature was nice with just a stiff beeeze - but expected at this time of year. Course was in great shape despite the weather challenges. Fairways were soft, rough was consistent, and the greens were quick and rolled true. Plan on playing this course several times this year.
Toughest course in Springfield... in a good way!
I think Piper Glen is the toughest course in Springfield. As a golf addict, I like the challenge. It’s not overly long, but good tee shots are required to score well. I’m a big fan of the layout and undulations. It’s a great course. If you play golf to try and play well, you will really enjoy the 18 holes here.
Simultaneous Tournament
The day I played there was a jr tournament going on at the same time which caused the course to be super slow. When I asked the front desk for a 9 hole rain check (not even a refund) after playing nine holes they offered no help and were pretty rude. Disappointed with the experience.
Beautiful course beat me up!
This course is the best course that my buddy and I have played in central Illinois. The layout is awesome, tough shots throughout but good size fairways if you drive it straight. Sand traps were under construction due to our crazy weather. Greens were awesome and fast with many valleys and ridges. Such a mentally tough course that I was playing well until the end, and I would definitely like a rematch.
Great Course
Even though it’s still early spring, the course is in good shape. Greens are quick and roll true with very little bumpiness. Layout is a challenge, and the length is tough in soft conditions. Will play again!
Great day on the course
Weather overcast with breeze. Light traffic made the round relaxing. The greens were extremely fast with a 12.9 stimp rating which made the round very challenging.
Great course - fast greens
Course was in great condition with nice fairways and fast greens. Only condition issue was GUR on 11 that I hadn’t been told about and some of the tee boxes needed some TLC. Some complain about the fast greens but the faster the better, like the pros play. Pace of play was super slow, but it was a Sunday morning so not much better you can expect. Awesome layout, would play again.
Unforgiving Greens
Piper Glen is a good looking course, but its fairways are thin and the greens are extremely tough. They were especially today, as they were fast to the point of not being fun. I had 3 or 4 run off the green and I consider myself a decent putter. One green was putt putt style with a rise of a 3-4 feet. That with the thin fairways make it too challenging for a hacker like me.
Nice surprise
I played this course last year and it was horrible. It is now finally owned by someone who is investing some $ and bringing the course back up to its original conditions after many years of neglect. New carts with built in Bluetooth speakers! $18 for 18 holes. Almost back to great condition. There are only one or two holes that need some more TLC. Applause to the new owners. Don’t stop now!
Piper Glen
The new owners are doing a great job with the course. When they get all the bunkers done it will be really nice. When the greens are fast it’s great track.
Most of the Bunkers Have No Sand
Piper Glen is an interesting layout, but is very difficult to play for first timers, with lots of blind shots. The greens and fairways were in decent shape, but most of the bunkers have no sand in them, so you have to drop your ball and play no closer to the hole. LAME! The people working here were very friendly, but I just can't recommend a course that doesn't have sand in over half the bunkers.
Getting there
This course is a great track that had been abused for years the new owners took over and everything is coming back to its former glory. They have committed to rebuilding all the sand traps this year and fixing the cart paths look forward to playing the scores for many years to come
Gettimg better
Bunkers still need work but looks like they are trying
Thank you for your review.
There are a handful of bunkers that we will be removing entirely, and those ones do not have sand in them right now. We will be filling them in with dirt. We do have a few to complete to finish our bunker renovation. If you would like to discuss anything further I would be happy to. Please feel free to contact me at Bryan@piperglen.com
