First Time Love It
This course has a lot of history with it. 1938 built, 1 if 8 black owned golf courses in the USA.
Once you warm up to the staff, they warm up to you.
Plenty of helpful golf advice and lots of Golf stories too.
I enjoy this course a lot, not the best condition, but good for Middle to High Handicappers. So unless you need a super tough course, this one will challenge you.
Call the course first
GolfNow wasn’t supposed to book a tee time. They had a 2-person scramble going on. Luckily we were able to just go out and play still. Not the course’s fault. GolfNow screwed up.
It is what it is.
It's a great value for the money. Its inside a state park so there's no houses and some great ponds and lakes. One par five has the smallest green I've ever seen. Followed by the second smallest green on a par 4. Not.many bunkers but the small greens make it a challenge. Probably the flatest course I've ever seen as well. I walked it and enjoyed the exercise. Greens were top.dressed so pretty slow. But that was ok. I'll be back to play again.
Decent
I didn't know what to expect when I booked this tea time.
The Clubhouse and pro shop are not great. There was no hit food, Is no coolers or ice for drinks.
However, we looked past that and enjoyed a beautiful day of golf. The greens were pretty darn.Good the course itself was a good layout and pretty nice and it looks like they're really working hard to clean up the lakes and trees around the course.
All in all I highly recommend it for the money....
This course still has bad management.
We had to wait 30 minutes for a cart. Some waited 2 hours. A year earlier we waited for a cart. Nothing changed.
Do not waste your time
Had a foursome booked for 2/25 at 11:40am. We scheduled the tee time 4 days prior. We arrived 15 minutes before our tee time to a full course. Upon entering the club house we were rudely greeted in the pro shop. We walked in the doors and the man at the counter says “We don’t have any carts. You can either wait until 12:30-1pm or you can walk”. As I tried to tell him I booked a tee time and paid over in a $100 in advance he would not listen to me and kept interrupting me saying that I did not pay that much, you only have to pay a small fee and would not look at my golf now receipt. He then proceeds to say that golf now over booked his tee times and it’s not his problem. He can’t give me any money back and to contact golf now. I was extremely upset and not happy with how this course conducted business. they could have called those with later tee times and told them they were on more than a two hour delay to give us time to cancel and find another course to play. It seems to me they were just banking on accepting the tee times to make money with no plan to refund golfers or even show the slightest courtesy. I would have been more understanding if when we walked in the door we were shown any respect or at least were greeted. It’s a shame as it was going to be our first time here. But after this interaction I will not spend my money here and will not refer this course to anyone.
Great Value and good condition for the season
I have always enjoyed coming out to Grand Marais it's always a great value. The layout is interesting and challenging and the condition has gotten better over the years. I was impressed at how good it was for fall/winter conditions; with the season in mind the greens were 8.5/10, the fairways 7/10, tee boxes 6/10.
Green condition
This course green condition was very good,8 of 10.fairway was 7 out of 10.tee shot was 7 out of 10.
No coolers for beverages and crab grass on the greens.
Fun Track
The overall condition was very good staff was extremely friendly and a very good value! The greens are small it's not an easy course but it's a lot of fun I highly recommend!
Grand Marais 09/23
Course has improved so much since it 1st reopened about 4 or 5 years ago. Fairways greens and roughs are in better condition and better kept. Pace of play was terrible. But that also adds to the relaxed feel of playing there. So it's a give and take.
