WINDY
DRIVING RANGE WAS IN AREA WITH HARDLY NO GRASS. IT WAS SO WINDY
WHEN YOU WENT TO SWING YOU WOULD GET BLOWN OVER. FLAGS WERE
HARD TO PUT IN HOLE. BALL ON GREEN WOULD MOVE. AFTER ROUND I TALKED TO
STARTER AND HE SAID, OUT OF 20 DAYS, MAYBE ONE DAY WOULD BE WITH NO
WIND. I HAVE HARD ENOUGH TIME PLAYING GOLF BUT WITH THE WIND, VERY
DIFFICULT. I DON'T THINK I'LL PLAY THERE AGAIN.
Great Course
Love this course, in decent condition for this time of year, only gripe was pace of play, got stuck behind a junior tournament who were a little slow. All in all and enjoyable round, wish it was $20 cheaper.
Great course horrible cart path
Course was in good condition- greens were a bit slow. Always a challenging course especially with some wind. But holy cow worst cart path I have ever seen. My back still hurts from it.
Also starter was awesome.
Spectacular layout. Absolutely abysmal course maintenance.
For a course with such great 2 courses, they sure do a lousy job maintaining it. Cart paths are dangerously awful, weeds in the bunkers, etc
Shame. This is a layout worthy of the pga
The upkeep is like a bad muni
Should have read the reviews before booking
I should have read the most recent reviews before booking this round. The course was in horrendous shape and such a disappointment. I'm not sure if management just let things go, but I couldn't believe how bad it was compared to the last time I played. The cart paths are AWFUL and borderline dangerous with potholes and loose asphalt. Sand traps have big rock pebbles in there that will scratch your wedges. The GPS on the carts lock you out while ON the cart path (clearly not calibrated correctly). Some of the other sand features had massive large weeds in them. The tee boxes had grass that looked sickly and patches of weeds. Such a shame to see a once-great course fall into this condition. Absolutely not worth over $100 for this round.
Great track
Nice experience all the way around. Very nice and helpful staff gave me great directions on navigating the property as it’s pretty spread out. Ranger was cool. Love the links style. Great conditions. Green speeds were fair. Course could be really hard if wind is blowing the wrong way.
Not worth the price
i’ve been playing this course for over 20 years. The overall condition of the course is not worth the price point anymore. The bunkers are not great. The greens are slow. More likely than not the GPS systems on the cart are off by 10 to 15 yards because the pin placements are in the wrong location. The cart paths are absolutely atrocious. The practice facility could be first rate but right now they are actually small pebbles in the practice bunker. You will mess up your clubs by hitting balls out of it. The pro shop, however, is night and day from what it used to be. It is now well stocked with a lot of really nice items.
The people at the club or very friendly, but there needs to be an investment put into this facility. It is not top-notch, and it does not deserve to be a top public facility in Illinois anymore.
CART PATH’S
Not good and getting worse than Chicago city streets. Geese have always been and issue on greens especially 18 on both courses.
I think it’s obvious they know the problem exists!
Not sure I will become an Anchor Club member again for any amount.
Fun Golf Course But Pricey
This was a nice course that was in very good condition. The course was a bit wet but I think that’s standard because it’s next to the lake. The course design was pretty good, the holes along the lake are what sell it though. The rest of the holes not along the lake are still nice enough but not anything novel or surprising. Overall this was an enjoyable round but the value just doesn’t add up, it shouldn’t cost $80 to $120+ to play a round on this course (if you can be conservative and hit the ball straight, it minimizes the difficulty quickly). I would recommend the course but I wouldn’t spend the money unless I got some form of discount.
What a shame
I should have looked at reviews before booking. Once immaculate course is now a disaster. Rough unplayable. They had even mowed the front 9 recently as grass clippings were everywhere. Greens beat up. Birds have overtaken 18th green. It’s still aesthetically beautiful, but what a shame that this course is a mere shell of what it used to be. Won’t be back anytime soon.
What a shame
This once impeccably kept course is a total disaster. It’s still aesthetically pleasing, but everything else was below park district level as far as upkeep. Greens were beat up. The front 9 rough was so deep it was unplayable. It had actually been mowed as there were grass clippings everywhere. So disappointing. Add in about 75 geese on the 18th green and I won’t be back anytime soon. Too many quality places to play in Chicago area to waste your time here. Hopefully they get their act together. What an absolute shame. Used to be a wonderful yet difficult course. Now it’s completely crossed off my list.
Zero maintenance
Management company has spent the minimum to maintain this once nice facility. Fairways were like rough and and rough was 6inches long. Cart paths are a pot holey mess. Such a shame.
Needs some work…
I’ll start by saying, I have played both courses at Harborside several times and for the most part have enjoyed those rounds.
However……
This last round we played the front 9 on Starboard looked like it hadn’t been mowed in a week or two. Chicago had a lot of rain the last two weeks but the rough was US Open length. Fairways were also in desperate need of a cut. For $140 for the round the expectations were much higher than what we got.
There were several times when a ball just off the fairway needed a search party because the rough was so thick. Greens need to be cut and rolled, it was like putting on shag carpet the entire round.
The icing on the cake was we waited on the group in front of us on every hole and clocked an early Sunday morning round in just under 5 hours. We were 30 minutes behind pace through the front and the issues of slow play continued on the back even after we stopped at the turn to let the group in front get some space between us.
So you rate the course poorly because the wind was blowing? That isn't much of a reason to rate the course poorly.....
