Overpriced, unfortunately not what it used to be
Harborside used to be one of our favorite in the Chicagoland area, but somehow it’s fallen off a bit. Their rates have increased and the course maintenance has decreased- what used to feel like a premiere 36 hole layout now feels a little like a municipal. Cart paths uneven, beaten potholed, greens discolored and pelted with divots. The course has many bunkers, sand dry, arid, rarely any rakes on the scene- just a bit disappointing having to sit through 2 hours of traffic coming from the north for this experience at over $120 on a weekday.
The staff was very friendly though and the amenities are decent, but simply not the value that it used to be.
It’s gone downhill
The maintenance of the course has declined as the prices of playing the course have gone up. You would think it might be the other way around too many weeds and unevenly cut grass and slow greens make it not so desirable.
On a Windy day at Harborside
The golf course was very fair. The rough was difficult. Greens rolled true. The wind laid a big roll in higher scores.
It’s the best
Love playing here. It’s always in great shape, staff is friendly, and the challenge is always a great reminder of what lovely game this is!
One and Done
I had really high hopes for Harborside Starboard. It was a special treat given the price. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were just OK in terms of maintenance. There is no flowers/landscaping. The cart paths were a brutal mess of broken asphalt and stones. The hole designs were challenging and the cart GPS worked good.I know we were there to golf but for the price I expected a more classy atmosphere. It was waaaay overpriced for a round on a garbage dump on Lake Calumet.
Beware: we golfed with two single riders. In the middle of the first hole an employee chased the singles and said “You two have to pair up. You each paid for half a cart. If you want to ride alone, you have to go back and pay an additional $25”Nowhere on the reservation or anything at the check in process does it state that you pay for 1/2 a cart when it says “cart included”.
If you don’t hit in the fairway….just drop you’ll never find the ball. Also the cart path is basically nonexistent. The only “terrible” hole was 18 because of all the bird poop like you might as well just skip 18.
Great Course
I always enjoy both courses at Harborside. Incredibly windy day and was very enjoyable. However the course requires more attention from the ground crew.
Nice round for $40
The Starboard course is a great layout. The greens, fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. The rough was a big problem. Would be great for the US Open, but sucks for the average player. Six inch long rough on the entire course is a little much when you miss the fairway by just a couple of yards. Could have been a great 4 hour round if we didn't spend 5 minutes on every hole searching for balls.
Hot deal was a score.
Bought the hot deal and got paired with a stick!!! Was really nice to be on a pure course and have a clinic put on. I played well and the wind was low so it was enjoyable. Great staff, snacks and beverages always available it seemed. Starboard was fun even for a 20+ handicap. I’ll be back for sure.
Always an enjoyable round at Harborside
Greens fees are pricey, but the Harborside experience is worth it.
