Good for beginners
I usually enjoy golfing over at Edgebrook golf course. It is a basic course to improve your game. But lawnmower staff very rude.
This is a different course. Some who are more traditional may be uncomfortable with it.
Staff was great, pace of play was fast, greens are in nice shape.
Some things were a bit odd, like the official tees are artificial grass mats about 4 feet wide, but they mowed another Redbox on most holes.
This course Ian a par 66 with 6 par 3's and no par 5's. The longest Par 4 is just over 350 yards. So it's not the most hallemging, although the trees on a few dog legs and one creek come into play. I was able to avoid hem easily.
Overall resonantly priced, and a fast pace of play. We finished 18 holes in 3.5 hours l.
Poorly Managed, Poorly Invested and Lack of Focus
I don't recommend this course if you can't play 18 in 90 minutes, shoot under 100 or care about pace of play. I just got done playing here today. I finished in 5 hours, shot 83. The guys in front of us were wasted. They wore really trashy clothing, despite standard dress code. There was a lot of children on the golf course and this 'accepted' behavior sets a bad example. They let the people in front of us battle in bumper cars. The people in front of use were playing with another 4 sum infront of them. The golf course condones finishing a hole, leaving the pin on the green and proceeding to the next hole.
Every hole there are matts on the ground to tee off at, despite the $30 green fees. If you're expecting to tee off on grass, it'll happen, but every hole will feel like a par 3.
Something positive? The greens are well taken care of. The greens are really challenging. I shot an 86 but with 33 putts. It was nice to play on something like that.
Overall, I told the management of our experience there. There was no resolution. They said there is nothing they could do about what people do on their course. I'll never go back though.
Average Course but Quick Round
Not sure if this course always has beat-up tee boxes, but they were not in good shape. There were tee mats for the blues, but really, who wants to hit off those?
Overall, it was a nice fast round with a few challenging holes. I liked a couple of the par-3s over water. Most holes were dead straight tho, so not particularly challenging and few, if any, bunkers. Good course for beginners I'd say!
Confusing layout
The course is a bit confusing for first timers. The starter tried to inform us of the difficulty of it at the first tee. But still a bit lost. We were first golfers of the day(so nobody to follow behind) but its an overall bice pkace tucked into a forest preserve. I will be back for sure!!
Golf condition
The course seem to be under repair, but it is not the best.
DO NOT PLAY HERE!!!
How can golfnow.com even support this place? Most of the holes didn't have tee boxes, it was all mush, and the only green grass was on the greens. I think a refund is in order! STAY AWAY! Find anywhere else to play.
Also, they don't have a liquor license.
Staff was super, super nice and friendly. But, the course is simply unplayable.
Fine for a quick round after work.
The good:
Course is short, so my score was 10 shots lower than normal!
Early morning round meant I had the course almost to myself.
The guy bringing out carts was very pleasant, and gave me the rundown of the course.
The mediocre:
The back tees are all high-quality hitting mats with tee holders. Not great, but at least they're not AstroTurf.
No Par 5's. It would be nice to be able to crank the driver once or twice per round.
The bad: I booked the first tee time of the day. While I was waiting for the clubhouse to open so I could pay, the starter send two people out ahead of me. He mentioned they were employees, and I didn't have a problem letting them go first.
Except I don't think they fixed a single ball mark on the greens. Just about all the greens had a couple of fresh ball marks when I got to them. How do they expect people to fix their ball marks if the employees won't?
Low end public course
Played a quick 2.5 hour round on Mothers Day. Only cost us $20 but course not worth much more than that honestly. Staff was very friendly. There is no turn as the 10th is at the back of the property. No beer cart. Some holes were in decent shape but most needed a lot of work. Airigiation holes on every green but looked like they were permanently imprinted into the ground. Most of the holes have no tee box- just a concrete slab with a driving range mat on it. I'd probably play it again for $20 as a last resort but not terribly fun.
Thank you for coming out and playing our course. Our greens have made a significant improvement over the past few weeks and we are confident we will be back to standard shortly. We have a standard and consistent agronomic schedule, and have new equipment that will assist in the continued maintenance of the course. We hope that you are able to give Edgebrooke Golf Course another try.
Good beginner to intermediate course.
The greens are in very good shape. The fairways not so much but playable. It's a short course with no par 5's and no bunkers. You do hit over water in three places and those holes are some of the most challenging on the course. If you want to play the full length you'll be hitting off the mats because those are the blue tees. I've been there twice recently and both days had a rain element and with that there was little traffic and play was relaxed and fun.
Not a real golf course - what this course actually is
My expectation level for this course was low, cheap forest preserve course. I didn't expect to be going to a real quality course, but wanted to get out somewhere and be outside on Sunday. I am just going to lay out an honest review, and description of this course, because people on golf now and other sites do not know how to properly explain the quality of a course. I read a bunch of 3-5 star reviews for this course, and did not fully know what I was getting myself into. So here it is...
Edgebrook golf plays at a distance of about 4,700 yards, and is a par 66 golf course. It features no par 5's, and has 6 par 3's (4 on the front 2 on the back). Most of the par 4's are in the 250-275 yard range. There are 2 par 4s on the back 9 with lengths closer to 370 yards. There are no bunkers on this course, and no water hazards.
For a player like me, who can hit it 300 yards off the tee, I hit 2 drivers the whole day. Which is fine, it was good practice to hit long irons and hybrids, but driver is too much club for a long hitter on pretty much every hole. This made most of the holes difficult par 3s for me.
Beware, people will be yelling four all day, and balls WILL be hit in your direction. So keep your eyes up.
The course features concrete tee boxes with hitting mats. If you opt not to play off the mats, you can play of the turf in front of the mats, which are glorified dirt patches. I played off the dirt patches. The fairways at Edgebrook are pasture, with no semblance of a consistent grass growing.
However, for a little dive course like this, I have to admit the greens exceeded all my expectations. They were really in good shape, putts were makeable, and the ball rolled true.
Conclusions: This is a great place for total hacks to come out and learn to play. For real beginners, the holes are a great length to be able to get off the tee and hit some wedges. Bad tee shots for beginners will put long irons in their hand. Mats are easy to hit off for new players. Good condition of the greens here actually lets beginners learn about their short game.
Despite what I said above, I cannot give this course more than a 1 star rating. It is simply in deplorable condition, and is not a real golf course for real golfers. For any kind of semi advanced player that likes decent courses, please save yourself the $30 and go play somewhere like Indian boundary for that price. Or put that money towards a better round. I will never return here, although I see the value in having places like this for people new to the game.

Edegebrook
Greens were okay but fairways and tee boxes need lots of work.
Thank you for visiting Edgebrook, and taking time to leave feedback. We continually try to improve the course and always strive to provide a fun and enjoyable experience. We hope that you will return to play Edgebrook and see conditions improve. Thank you again.
I enjoyed my round
For the price, location and condition of the course, I had a great time. Yes, you tee off mats, no bunkers and some dry spots here and there but it didn't bother me. The greens are well watered and beautiful and easy to putt. If you are expecting a country club course, you will be disappointed. If you want to get out of your house and just swing your clubs, maybe try out a new putter or wedge, enjoy some scenery then this was totally worth it.
Good value
Great course to work on game... I didn't. Enjoy hitting off the Matts and most of the tee boxes need work but... The greens were in great shape
Value Value
This is a great course to get some practice on your short game. I played this course back in May and perhaps it was too early in the season because today was perfect. We started at 657am and we were done by 10am. Perfect way to start a day.
We are happy to hear your experience improved at Edgebrook! We typically see improvements in the course as the weather improves and are glad you were able to make it back out again to play, we look forward to having you back again soon!
Practice
Par 66, a good place to practice short game for most men. "Tee Boxes" horrible, they still have a few holes with matts. Not a bad value for the money though and a quick 18 on a weekday morning.
Thank you for your feedback, we have certain limitations and are therefore required to have mats on our tee boxes. We understand this is not ideal for everyone and are glad we can offer excellent discounts to golfers as a result. Our goal is to provide a fun and enjoyable round for each guest and hope you will be back to play again soon!
poor course conditions.
Tee boxes were bad, along with fairways. Greens were in ok shape.
We are sorry to hear that your experience at Edgebrook was affected by course conditions. We do our best to maintain course with available resources and appreciate your feedback. We aim to provide each guest with a fun and enjoyable golfing experience and hope you will join us again to play another round at Edgebrook.
Best price for 18
Absolutely best price for a round of golf but the course is not in great shape so You get what you paid for. Only good for practice golf.
Thank you for your feedback. Our agronomic team does their best to maintain course conditions within our current infrastructure. We aim to provide a fun and enjoyable experience to each guest and hope you will be back to play again soon.
Boring
The course has no sand, practically no water, and besides the tree line on a handful of holes, no way to lose a ball. It's very dangerous standing on the tee boxes and had MANY balls fly by our group. Every tee box is a tee matt. Hate driving off tee matts. Only saving grace of the course are the greens. They were in great condition. Everything else was barely worth the $25 we paid. No drink girl, no halfway house. Not recommended unless no where else to go.
We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear certain course conditions affected your round at Edgebrook. Due to certain environmental factors and infrastructure limitations, we do have to have mats in certain places so our agronomic team has a chance to address certain course conditions. We understand this is not ideal and are constantly working on making improvements. Our goal is to make sure each guest has a fun and enjoyable golfing experience and we hope you will return so we have the opportunity to show you how great Edgebrook can be!
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We do understand the importance of golfer etiquette and apologize for the ball marks that were not fixed. This is something that we take seriously and will make sure to talk to our employees about. We are glad to hear that, aside from the unfixed ball marks, you had an overall good experience at Edgebrook Golf Course. We hope that you are able to make it back to the course again soon!
