South Shore Golf Club
About
South Shore Golf Club was formerly a private nine-hole course but now it is part of the Chicago Park District Golf collection, which features five other courses. Although it is seemingly out of the way, tucked in the southeast corner of the Chicago metro area, it is one of the most affordable rounds you'll find in the area. Through the stands of mature trees, golfers can catch glimpses of Lake Michigan. The carefully preserved landscape has earned the golf course recognition as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The par-33 layout features tree-lined fairways and small greens. It's a golf course that requires accuracy but it's not overly punishing for high handicappers. South Shore Golf Club is a great course if you're looking to get some short game practice or squeeze in a quick round.

wrigley field of golf in chicago
what a great fun little course, priced right too!
trees play a BIG factor here,
there's really nothing to complain about here, what negatives there are, the atmosphere and convenience make up for it. parking lot, cashier, 1st and 9th all located together. good practice area near the shore with bunkers, and greens to warm up or practice. lots of views of lake michigan chicago and indiana
lots of history in this place, architecture and course have alot fun facts hidden in them
if your gonna be in chicago forawhile you should check this place out at least once.
Always like playing this course!
Staff are
Friendly and helpful. Course is fun and challenging with great views of the lake/city.
My most played in 2023
This course was in excellent shape all year. I moved to the area and I played this course the most all summer. It’s so narrow and has so many trees that I really have developed my low shots with lower to gain distance and keep it under the branches. It feels like one or two par 4’s should be 5’s lol. My only complaint is that the tee off #3 but really #4 is traumatizing LOL. They really need a net or something. On #4 I don’t even use driver because it’s too risky to put a ball on the street as your a dealing with cars, people and property. Most of the time I wait to tee off once the cars have passed. I played here the most all summer but probably avoided this one a few times and went to Fountain Hills or Marquette Park just to not be bothered with that hole lol. Great course with scenic views!!!
Southside old Waveland
Very good course and very enjoyable play. No starter to deal with or matching you up with strangers. Staff very friendly other players very friendly and a great location right on Lake Michigan.
The only thing they need to do is put sand in the sand traps instead of plain old dirt but otherwise it’s a very good course and very historic Chicago.
fun course with views of the lake
I live in the city and this course is widely overlooked. It's right on the lake with two greens right on lake michigan. Lots of old trees so shots have to be on target. Great course to play with kids, since they can play free. My son and I played for 20 bucks. Also checkout Jackson Park Golf course, a fun 18 hole course. Don't forget about Hyde Park, Chicago!
Allowing 6-sines?! Come on, South Shore
South Shore has never been a fast paced course but pre 8am shouldn’t be the case. Had a 6-some go off in front of us and it was awful. Sad to see.
Great short course
If you want to get a quick 9 in with some great city views this is one of your only options and it doesn’t disappoint. Sure there’s no fancy club house but you are here to golf a quick 9, and it does that very well.
South Shore CC is a good 9-hole
This is a shorter 9-hole course but offers some challenging greens to read. It is well kept and it is nice being right on the lake for a few holes.
Scenic course
If you’d like to practice golf this should be your place to do it. Pace on this course is very forgiving. Also this course is very well maintained with immaculate greens. A bonus to playing there are the views of the Lake Michigan and sky line of downtown Chicago!
Gem on the Lake
Nice 9 hole course right on the lake. Pretty good layout with some good long challenging par 4 combine with a nice mix of other par 3 and par 4. 20-30 minutes outside of the city and fast play.
Awful pace of play
Don’t come here unless you golf once every few years. Groups of 6+ playing together, waiting til 2 minutes before your tee time for a cart so absolutely no practicing before a round and worst pace of play I’ve ever experienced. I was literally there for two hours and got 2 holes done before driving back to the clubhouse and getting a refund for the carts. Unreal. Terrible.
