Great place to play with novice golfers
People are friendly and patient. Short course and good for beginner golfers. A good walk if your up for it and as a bonus two of the holes have the beautiful Bahai Temple as back drop. What's not to like for 22 bucks.
Course was good.
Greens were really nice. Things were being fixed. Not every hole was 100% but it was fine.
Fun unique course
This course is special - it’s so walkable (in fact many neighborhood families were leisure walking through the course). Well kept and great place to work on short game. I really enjoyed it. Pricey for the size/layout, but expected during holiday weekend. Can’t wait to play here again.
Unique course
Unique course that is separated by streets and a canal in a residential area. Holes are short, fairways aren’t really maintained, but this course is ok if you’re just trying to get outside and have some recreational fun for a few hours. Good place to sharpen up your iron play as woods will very rarely be used. Meets expectations for a city/park district course.
New management making a positive impact
The course is in dramatically better shape than the past eight years since I started playing it. It is great to have a professional company taking care of it. The greens are in much better shape. Can't wait to see how the course continues to improve.
Unique, but won't play again
Canal Shores is an interesting little course, but it was a really odd experienece. The course is spread out along the canal and has you cross streets in a residential neighborhood and through tunnels. That was kind of fun in some respects since it was a unique experience. It was $26/person for 18 holes which was cheap, but that is because you'll be dealing with a course that is maintained as essentially a public park.
Multiple times people that were not other golfers walked across the fairways as we went to tee off, kids came through on bikes and rode around the greens, people were playing catch with their dogs on the fairways. Many of the holes didn't have designated fairways at all instead it was just a field of grass, one hole didn't have an available green since it was being worked on so they just cut a hole in the rough grass.
If you're just looking to work on your short game as practice this is a great course since many of the holes are under 200 yards, but if you want a separated golf course or you're a more serious golfer this is not the place to go.
Challenging for sure
Kind of scruffy probably due to low play and funds but very challenging and has tons of character
It was a fun little course in the heart of Evanston. Could use a little work on fairways/tee boxes but worth the price.
Too wet to justify price
We like going to this course but they should really be offering a discount right now with how bad the condition is because of standing water. Also wouldn’t let us get have push carts. Won’t be back until it gets dryer or they offer a discount.
Vastly improved greens!
The greens are in much better shape than last year and they roll great. The course looks pretty solid overall!
