WHAT A FIND!!!
I had been passing on this course for some time because of some very bad reviews I had read. WOW !! What a mistake, this course had it all. Mostly the people were amazingly helpful, happy and so nice and cooperative. The course is quite hilly so I am glad I didn't consider walking. Every part of the course was in really great shape, fairways, greens, tees all of it. No GPS so make sure you have your own you will need it. Not the hardest course I play but a very fun course. What really makes a great day is people who make you feel your welcome from the 1st person you meet to the bartender. I wish I had gotten all there names so you could know them as soon as they say hello. It was a great day and I plan on going back many many times.
You should communicate better with courses
I set a tee time to play at the North course for 10am. The North course is currently under construction... so we did not play the north course. There was a golf outing at the south course, at the same time, so we played the back 9 of the south course while they tee’d off the front 9. But since there was an outing we were not able to play with carts as they were all taken. We were forced to walk the 9 holes instead of ride in carts. Luckily the course provided walking carts so we could wheel our clubs around. I set this tee time up a week ago and the Hickory Hills Country Club knew the North Course was closed, so why was I not notified that this would not work? Why was it even an option? In terms of the course we did play on was very poorly kept. The rough was up to my ankles, and most greens were missing about 20% of the grass, had large dirt patches all over the place. I understand it is early in the season, but it looked like neither the tee box nor the rough had even been mowed in weeks. I will not return to the course, and I will not recommend it to anyone.
North Course
The course isn’t poorly maintained. It isn’t maintained at all. There were no tee markers and the tee boxes were basically indiscernible. You can’t putt on any of the greens because they’re so ravaged from disease and covered in leaves and other impediments. I guess I should’ve expected this for $12, but I literally wouldn’t call this a golf course. The 4th hole green was missing the flag stick, so there was an actual stick from a tree in the hole. Honestly that was the most entertaining part of the round.
Don’t bother
The reservation said cart included which they didn’t honor at the course. The greens were in terrible condition, almost impossible to putt. The whole course was covered in leaves making it very difficult to find your ball. One of the holes had a 3 ft branch in place of the flag stick which was the final straw before we left mid round. Don’t waste your money or time
In sad condition
The 9 hole north course was in bad shape. The greens were diseased, and had big holes in them. The fairways were uncut and had bald spots. It's a shame, because it an easy layout, mostly par 3s. Doesn't look like it gets much play. Apparently it gets more use from the geese judging from all the goose droppings.
Never again
I would not play there again unless they payed me. It is the absolutely worst maintained course I have ever played in 40 yrs of golfing. Bone dry, very leafy, no ball washers. The carts were dirty and beat down. They should put it out of its misery and just turn it into condos or a cemetery.
Worst Course I have ever played on
The driving range, clubhouse, carts we rented, and the entire golf course was the worst that I have ever experienced.
Poor conditions
Everything was dry and rock hard. The greens were dry and chewed up and didn't even have grass in several portions.
Poor Course Conditions
The course is not well kept. The tee box is a mess, fairways are long and the greens are a disaster. For $12 I guess you get what you pay for.
Lots of first time golfers which is fine but there should be a ranger that comes around to help keep pace as it was super slow.
Fun time during COVID!
The executive 9 hole course was great fun. The other players were nice and no one was pushing forward and impatient if you played slower, which I think is a major reason people quit the game. Most importantly all the people we saw during play and when leaving were smiling and having fun which is worth so much at this time. Highly recommend for a fun game for anyone, even if you haven’t played in awhile or if you’re teaching someone new to the game. The course is pretty, lots of trees, birds, and pretty hills. They clearly are reviving their grass but most is in good shape. Remember it takes time for grass to recover from winter.
Bad
Wouldn’t give us a cart even though golf said we had a cart
Played there today. If I had checked reviews before booking, I wouldn't have made a tee time for the north course. It's in horrible shape.
