It's a beautiful course
A very nice layout, nice bunkering . Can use every club in your bag. Enjoyed it
Donny's Blindfold
This Donald Ross original value trek 30 minutes from downtown Chicago understands its position on the golf food chain.
The greens are shaggy and slow in serious need of compaction/aeration, some of the bunkers have turned into Audubon Bird Sanctuaries with 18-24 inch weeds more conducive to upland fowl than a golf ball, and the property needs significant tree and brush clearing with mature trees impeding on traditional lines both off the tee and on approaches from the fairway.
However, once you put on your metaphorical blindfold - the contours, land movement, well guarded undulating greens, elevation change and hummocks are all there in classic Ross fashion. For $61 I much rather play here than many of its $100+ Chicagoland counterparts.
Donny’s Blindfold Trick
As a golf architecture enthusiast this Donald Ross original value trek 30 minutes from downtown Chicago would have to deteriorate even further to receive less than 4 stars from me.
The greens are shaggy and slow with severe need for compacting and aeration, some of the bunkers look more like an upland fowl habitat with 18-24 inches of plant growth rendering what little sand is left invisible and the course is in severe need of a tree and brush clearing with mature trees encroaching on traditional lines throughout the routing.
However, when you put on your metaphorical blindfold the routing, the well guarded greens, the hummocks and land movement are all there. Classic Ross bones for $61, I’ll take it over $100+ robbery at some of its Chicagoland counterparts any day.
Sand traps half 2ft weeds
Layout was good, fairways n greens in good shape....sandtraps had weeds growing all through them, making them unplayable...ridiculous! Was getting dark on eighteenth hole and mgr came out screaming! Give me a break...what an jerk!
Very challenging course
This course was beautiful and the staff was awesome. The only thing was the sand traps where not taken care of they were terrible you couldn’t even attempt to play them.
Beautiful and Tough
I enjoy Donald Ross designed courses, and I definitely enjoyed this one. The course was immaculate, the design, and greens were great. I will definitely play there again
What you get for 50 bucks
Bunkers have grass and weeds growing in them - fairways were in good condition- greens were pretty slow but not bad - the real only issue is if you’re a low handicap looking for a place to play this isn’t it as it is primarily a higher handicap average golfer playing on that course and was pretty clogged up.
Poor choice
Thank God for the rain lately. Greens were super slow. You couldn’t hit out of the sand traps
