Terrible Conditions

I play for a Sunday league and have been to this course before. I feel like the layout of the course is actually really nice but the conditions were unplayable this most recent visit. It's a smaller operation a simple club house nothing too fancy. I'll describe what I mean in the breakdown below.

Bad:

The main issue with the course is that everything has been left poorly maintained.

1) Course Conditions - the absolute worst I've experienced to date. Greens were the length of first cuts making putting slower than molasses. There was no distinction between rough and fairway in terms of grass length. Roughs were well over ankle height and grass clippings were left left to die on top of the existing grass so if your balls happened to roll under some dead grass good luck trying to find it. Bunkers weren't bunkers, they didn't have sand in them but they did have patches of grass growing within them and were hard baked mud basically.
2) Pace of Play - with everyone trying to find their balls even in the "fairways" it was close to a 5 hour round with the majority of the time trying to find your ball. I know some will say just hit fairways, but when the fairways are the same conditions as the rough it's impossible to keep a steady pace.

I would be harder on the course but it looks like a small local operation, nonetheless it's already the end of May I would expect the course to be in better condition. The management team has a lot of work ahead of them but unfortunately I would rather spend my time and money else where based upon this most recent experience.

Potential

If there were a range, cart service and better amenities it would be worthy of the drive from the Chicago South Suburbs. Better options closer to home though.

Needs a little more care

The course is getting back to the conditions it had back 10 years ago. The 4th fairway is a mess with mole or gofer mounds. "Need to kill the gofers". Driving with a cart is like off roading. Greens were nice but a little bumpy. They had some speed to them. Cart almost died on the 17th hole, had to only have one drive to get it in on 18 as it is a steep climb to the 18th green. Getting close to a top line course.

Won't honor online pricing.

Just a heads up, if your a penny pincher like me and looking for a discounted rounds, this is not it. Although polite and apologetic they would not honor the price I booked at. Nice course to play all in all. I'll go back but book by phone and save the book fee.

not the best course. MOSQUITOS!!!!!

Bring your bug spray the mosquitos are horrible. had trouble teeing off because I was getting swarmed by them. front 9 looks terrible, dead grass everywhere. I lost my ball on a par 5 twice on the fairway because the grass was so tall. the back 9 was surprisingly a lot better. if they make the front 9 more like the back I would come back every week. overall decent course.

Needs a lot of work

My father and I played here Sunday July 6th 2014. He use to play here all the time as a kid so he was excited to come back. Well it was very disappointing unfortunately. The tee boxes were shaggy and hard as a rock. I broke a tee on almost every hole. You needed a hammer to get them into the ground. The rough was basically weeds with little to no grass in them. Mosquitos were everywhere and it was around 10 o'clock in the morning. The bunkers were basically mud or filled completely with water so basically unplayable on every hole. The fairways were ok but still in pretty bad shape. Also, there was a bunch of holes that you were completely blind hitting into. I hit a second shot on a par 5 and it almost hit a group in front of us. The positive was the staff member inside the pro shop. He was very friendly and quick to service. Besides that I wouldn't play here again. A waste of money.

Best Layout in NWI

Hands down my favorite layout. Very scenic. Lots of elevation changes. It's a very fair length from the tips, and accuracy is key. Greens roll pretty smooth. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Already after years of neglect, the course had severe flood damage back in 2008 and the new owners shut down for a while and added some much needed repairs, but the course is still trying to get back to its' glory days. I believe Tom Watson actually holds the course record out here, unless it has been broken recently.

Go enjoy the unique layout and the scenery, you can definitely see the potential of what the course can be, and appreciate what the course once was.

Scenic

This course has been through the wringer, but is definitely on the way back to it's glory days of the 70's & 80's. Bring your "A" game. lots of trees, uphill lies, downhill lies and side hill lies. I have played the Valley quite a bit and really enjoy the challenges it offers. After your round, stop in for a drink and a sandwich, you won't be disappointed.

Scenic course with some challenging holes

NIce course reasonable priced compared to others in the area. Holes #3, #4 and #7 which run along side the creek, have suffered from the heavy rain of the last couple of weeks. The course has a little bit of everything. Elevated tees, elevated greens, dog legs, water, lots of trees and thick rough.

Hard to find and rain water ruined the experience

It had been raining a lot and the first 6 holes were pretty flooded. It made anything not in the fairway a lost ball. Frustrating start because of that and having a hard time finding the course with GPS taking us to the wrong side where there is no entrance.

The rain had also prevented them from cutting the grass so it was tough to find balls where you knew exactly where they landed and very hard to hit out of.

The tee boxes and even some fairways were very bumpy and need some work. There was an outing on a Saturday morning, which was odd, but we stillmmanaged a 5 hour round even with the slow scramble. Was expecting 6!

Needs some more work and kind of out of the way but very worth $20 for 18 with cart. Great deal!

Greens were in good condition and there was a beverage cart. Some nice holes with big slopes.

Front 9 Closed

Due to heavy rain the night before, we were informed we would have to play the back 9 twice. Several of the holes on the front were pretty much unplayable due to flooding. Having played this course for many years, it has been through many ups and downs. At one time, it was "THE premier course" in NW Indiana. Sadly, it no longer is. When the Naum's owned the course, they had a very nice pro shop, and a great restaurant/bar, which thrived. No more. However, the course itself, while not as pristine as it was in its heyday, is still a great track, and pretty well taken care of. For what we paid, it was great value. I will be back.

A very difficult golf course.

Pheasant Valley, is a fun course too play, the greens are tough and the course is tight, and many blind shots need some local knowledge before you will have success on this course. Conditions are improving, this could be an amzing course.

Pheasant Valley Needs Some Work

Pheasant Valley is a nice track with many rolling hills and tree lined. However, this course would be very nice if it was well maintained. The grass in the rough is very long and has long cut "hay" just laying on top. It was very difficult to find your ball unless you were in the fairway. Greens were a little slow and had maple tree seeds covering most greens. This could have been easy addressed with one person going around and blowing these seedlings off of the green. Overall, the course is worth the money I spent, but I was disappointed with the maintenance of the course.

Bad experience.

The course is not in the best shape, but for the price it isn't bad. The real problem was 3 different parties had the same tee time. I was a single rider and it took me 5 hrs to play. The course was backed up. No ranger to try to speed things up.
