First off I would have to say if you need to warm up on a driving range this course is not for you. Fairways were a bit wet and greens receptive. Greens rolled true and pace of play was good. Nice course a bit short but still needed to be precise with your irons.
Great Short Course
Woodruff is a great place to go if you want to work your short game. Woodruff is one of my favorites in the area. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all in excellent shape. However, my only complaint is that today the rough was treacherous. Usually, there is a first cut rough, then a thicker second cut rough. Today, all the rough was long & thick. Miss the fairway by a foot & you were in the thick rough. Overall, good course, just wish they cut the rough.
Challenging layout
Leanne
Beer cart server was very friendly and accommodating.
A good course for the iron player
No par fives and several short par 4's make it a great place to work on your irons. several flag locations were very challenging with a very high degree of slope.
Some tricky holes
This quiet and unassuming little course can bite you in the butt, if you get to big for your britches. Keep it in play, like in the fairway.
We love woodruff!
We play here about 20 times a year and every time it exceeds our expectations.Thank you for the great times and the excellent service.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are very happy to have guests like yourself who enjoy our course. We look forward to your next visit!
Great course for the price
I booked this with Golf Now as a "Hot Deal" for $18 with a cart ($22 after fees). After I booked the tee time, I get a phone call from the course stating that they were not going to let any carts out; but they will give us push carts instead.
This course is pretty straight forward with some elevations changes. There might be two dog legs, and no par 5's. There was probably about 15 people on the entire course which made it go real quick. The temp was in the high 40's with the sun, so it wasn't bad.
This course is great for that "you want to feel good about yourself" round. The course is short and there is one hole where it is 235 yard par 4. The reason why I like to play this course is because I could spend $20 at a driving range and just practice hitting dull balls. Or I can spend $20 and play a course that will allow me to use my full bag.
We are sorry the course did not rate higher for you. Perhaps during the Summer with trees in full bloom and regular green speeds it might provide a little more of a challenge for you. Our shortest Par 4 actually plays 256yard on the scorecard. We are happy that you visited us and hope you decide to give us another try this year. Thank you.
Fun course to have a good time
Woodruff is a fun little Joliet Park district course that is playable, walkable and a ton of fun.
At less than 6000 yards, this is a very short course. There are no par 5's, and a few of the par 4's on the front are very gettable, even by amateur standards. The front can be a little boring, however the back has some very scenic holes. The course is usually in decent shape.
If you're able to find a deal on a tee time, this is a great track. There are better options in the area on a full price weekend morning, but if you're free for a weeknight twilight round and want to get out and walk, Woodruff is a great place to do it.
We are sorry you did not feel we deserved a higher rating. Normally most find our course very challenging especially among players in your handicap range. The mix of birdie opportunities are heavily outweighed by the troublesome par 3's. The short par 4's for many present a more difficult birdie opportunity than many par 5's. There are many opportunities to make bogey or worse. You may have avoided trouble during your round but we definitely invite you back to see if you can play the course to your handicap. We may even be able to set you up with one of our staff members to accompany you. It is especially troublesome that our staff friendliness was not rated higher. I will personally research the lineup on your date of play to discuss the importance of customer service. Thank you for visiting us.
Calm before the Storm
First, I must tell you we began by playing the back nine. It is a wonderful winding golf path through a very pretty, wooded setting. The front nine is much more vanilla although the fairways and greens were well maintained.
If you played this course in the tradional sequence I think the front nine would lull you into a compacency and then the back would shake you awake.
It is a gem and we couldn't believe we waited this long to play it. We will be back.
The staff was super - helpful and kind.
Great local course
A wonderful municipal course. The best conditions i'very played all year. Short but protected by the greens and pin placements. You have to make good approach shots or you are in trouble.
Woodruff Golf
Fairly easy course but have a few challenging holes.
Hidden Gem
Husband and I love playing this course. Staff is always friendly. Course has nice blend of challenging and easy holes making it a fun course to play.
2 different 9's
This course has two different nine's. The front is pretty straightforward with most of the holes going straight out and straight back. very short course under 6000 yards. The back nine has more elevation changes and doglegs. Course is kept in pretty good condition.
We hope you give us another chance to improve our rating!
