Lake Bluff Golf Club
About
Situated on Chicago's scenic North Shore, Lake Bluff Golf Club has become a "must-play" destination in the area. First opened in 1968, the course has a classic layout with front and back nines that are very different. The front nine provides a gentle start. The terrain is mostly flat and the holes are straightforward. As you move onto Lake Bluff's back nine there is more up and down and consequently the challenges are greater. Don't get too comfortable on the first half of the golf course because you'll need your wits about you for the second. Trees line the narrow fairways and the tricky greens all slope in one direction or another. Accuracy is essential. Water doesn't come into play but the doglegs and strategically placed bunkers provide plenty of challenges.

Lake Bluff Golf Course
A muni Lake Bluff course that is well maintained and easy on the budget.
When it’s wet, watch out
This course is in a floodplain and will be wet for 3-4 days after a heavy rain.
Good value and good challenge without unrealistic penalties.
Fast greens
Nice long course considering this time of the year. Greens are tricky and fast.
Cart path needs repair;pretty bumpy .
We had a horrible experience at this course.
We had a horrible experience at this course. Staff were so rude when we checked in and unorganized. in the middle of the course, one of our cart didn’t move at all so we called the office and the staff said that they don’t have anybody to bring another cart so he asked us to walk and get another cart. So we walked with golf bags and they didn’t offered any discount. We won’t go back this place again.
Cloudy golf day
I have played here 3x and it's always in pretty good shape. The course is well maintained and the patriots are well respected. One of my top five courses in Lake County.....
Another Excellent Day of Gold at Lake Bluff GC
Love this course and the hot deal made it quite the deal!!
They continue to have issues having enough carts, but we got one without waiting. The big rains from last week made for some wet spots on the perimeter of the course. Greens were smooth, fast, and challenging. Course in in great shape!
Staff was super friendly and helpful.
WE NEED DRINKING WATER JUGS ON THE COURSE!!!
Will return again and again. .Love the course.
I've seen better
When I lived in the area, I avoided the place because I thought it was too expensive for a muni course It still is.
So so
I played here about six years ago and thought is was too expensive then. It still is.
Greens were not a consistent speed for all 18.
Gas golf cart steered poorly and had inconsistent pick up.
A while back there was a movement to save the course. It obviously succeeded, but maybe it shouldn't have.
Below average experience - no longer recommended
While the course itself is pretty decent shape but everything else you can think of it wasn't close to being up to snuff. We play here once a year with our GolfVisions players passes. Overpriced if you don't have a pass.....this course is pretty much at most a $40 wk day/$50 wknd course. Definitely not $52/$68.....especially when there are next to no amenities coupled with an incredibly poor beer selection. How many kinds of worthless light beer? At least 5. Messy smelly wet bathroom. No beverage cart and even more ridiculous NO STARTER with a full tee sheet on a weekend afternoon. We basically took it upon ourselves teeing off right before 1pm which was our tee time (tee box was wide open) despite the group in front of us being the 1232pm tee time (1/2 hour behind??). You basically fend for yourself to get out on the course. Plus when checking in we were told - no cart until 15 minutes before our time. Yet the guy in the clubhouse gave a cart to the other two in our group well over a 1/2 hour in front of our time then was giving out carts to groups after our 1pm tee time. We were was lucky to even get a cart and it was a mess with old scorecards and trash....completely unacceptable. Do all the folks playing in front of and behind us feel it's a $68 experience? I sure hope not.
Driving range irons only (not followed as range balls littered the 18th fairway) and a practice area. Rough on the course really needs a trim (it had not rained for days)...now it will be even more ridiculous with the heavy rain yesterday - we had difficulty locating balls.....and it can be next to impossible to hit out of. It certainly slowed play down to a crawl. Traps were hit and miss and most not raked by previous players. Some of the greens suffer from brown ball marks and incorrectly or not repaired marks. Speed is extremely fast on the downhill putts - they require an extremely deft touch (way too slick for the average weekend warrior)....and the uphill ones you have to really strike more than you think as many of the greens have sneaky slopes. Course has a fairly nice routing - but some slow play in front of us....and even worse behind us as we never saw the group behind us after the 3rd hole.....plus we had a rather long wait at the turn despite the foursome in front of us having two wide open holes in front of them.
I can't recommend play as the operations are so poorly run...that is unless the tee sheet is empty. It looks like they only charge $35 the coming Wednesday for some reason and that's about all I'd ever pay to play Lake Bluff. Could be close to 4 star at most but the aggregation of aggravations it's 2.5 or less.
This place needs a complete renovation
This place has great potential, it has a great layout, who ever is running it needs to get fired. 5 hr round They over book the course. Course is in bad shape.
