Course Condition in Poor Shape
This was my first time back in a year and the first time I have played it under the university management. You can tell they are making improvements as the restaurant/club house and parking lot look much, much better. However, with how late it is in the year, the fact lots of students play the course, and reseeding on several holes, the course was in pretty dismal shape...a few of the fairways were pretty bare, parts of the course look like they had a truck mudding in it, and the greens were pelted with unrepaired divots (part of the price of having tons of casual students drinking beer and trying out the game). For the price though which included a cart, I'd have to say I got what I paid for though...pretty cheap prices! Overall though, I wouldn't recommend it as it was pretty disappointing hitting a handful of great iron shots within 10/15 ft of the pin just to see 6 or 7 ruts in my putting line. I really enjoyed the layout of the course so with continued improvements to the course from the university, this definitely could be a place I'd like play...not there yet!
Actuall this course is two in one.
The front nine is short and hilly and is a short game challenge. The back nine for the most part is wide open and fairly flat. Great course for a simple round of golf.
Great value
Fun course. Challenging enough that it allows you to work on all aspects of your game without getting frustrated. Great rate through GolfNow app. The sandwiches in the clubhouse are excellent as well. I plan to play league there next year.
par 3
This is a beautiful course. Par5 was quiet a challenge.
Nice Layout, but in need of some upgrades
Course was in good shape. Greens we in excellent condition. Enjoyed playing the course, nice layout. Confusing at times to determine where the next tee box is for 1st time player. Course plays well, but could use some work on cleaning up hazards, and cart paths.
Back 9 is nice
First 5 holes are on top of eachother and 1 even has a shared green that when I was on other people were launching their approach shots at me. Back 9 is nice tho.
Getting better
Since school took over ,they are making lots of improvements, looking forward to play at this course again.
Cool course.
Interesting layout. Some odd navigation, but a cool course anyway. Some tight fairways, but nothing too difficult.
Birdie Possible
We have been playing this course for two-three years and it us currently in the best condition that we have ever ecoerienced. Hole three is now in good condition. Thus was the furst time we actually enjoyed hole 4, it was not swamped out with water.
It looks really good.
very nice course
The course was in very good condition. Took my 15 year old son. It's his favorite
Makes you concentrate on where to drive your ball
Great value - can be rewarding if you position your shots.
Not a bad value with a 'hot deal'
I liked the overall setup of the course but the fairways were very thin in most places. The rough was playable and the greens were in good shape although they were rather bumpy. Navigating around the course was confusing at times so better signage is in order. If you can get a sub $25 rate this course is worth visiting but i wouldn't pay more than that in its present condition.
Course continues to improve
I played it once a year ago and enjoyed it; yesterday's round was better. Greens were I good shape but fairways were hurting a little from this cold Spring. Everything was nicely mowed and maintained. Staff was very nice.
Short but Very Narrow
Front 9 was very narrow and tight; a real shotmaker's 9; and the back 9 opened up quite a bit. Some of the fastest greens I have played in a long long time!
Great Saturday Golf for the money!!
If you are looking for a place to golf in the Metro-East St. Louis area and not worry about breaking the bank, The Hills at McKendree is it. The course played well and the staff friendliness was great. We will definitely be back in the near future.
Very nice course
Met the new coordinator ... Very corduale ... Golf course in nice condition considering the time we played !! Will definitely return in the near future .. Bivs
Grounds are in great shape for this time of year.
McKendree Univeristy is doing some great transitions on the course. It is starting to look really good. I like all the features the college atmosphere brings to it.
This coarse is aweful.
In my 15 years of playing golf I had never experienced such a complete disaster. the coarse is designed so poorly. I was hit twice. I had not ever been hit prior. The holes are over lapping. without warnings. Beginners versus advanced. the group in front had 6. Guys just picking up my ball from other fairways. Just a complete disaster. I wouldn't recommend this coarse.
claustrophobic course
I had heard good things about this course so I thought I'd give it a try. The front nine of this course is the tightest I've ever seen. The first few holes share the same cart paths and there is no room between fairways. It always seemed like you were playing on top of players on other holes. I remember on one hole we had a shot from the left side of our fairway that we were almost playing over another group on a different green. The back nine spread out a little bit more.
