About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2022.
Gleneagles County Club is home to two 18-hole golf courses, the Red and White. Opened in 1924, both courses have traditional layouts that have withstood the test of time. The Red Course, also known as the Lakes, is the longer of the two. Water hazards come into play on several holes, including what is considered the club's best par 3. The Red's 16th is a 170-yard hole that plays directly into the wind to an elevated green that is protected in front by a pond. It's a tough green to hit but a relatively easy one to putt. Both Gleneagles golf courses appeal to a wide range of skill levels, which is one reason why the club is known as the "Home of the Shotgun Start," serving as host to hundreds of golf outings every year.

Course closing
Golf Now did not tell me the course is closing and is in horrible shape. No sand in traps. One hole didn’t even have a flag - just a pole.
Fun course that is due to close shortly. Too bad! Would love to play again
Gleneagles Red Course
Great course, pace of play slow. Course is closing, other 18 closed due to outing. Planning on playing both courses again before closing.
Father’s Day round
My son an I played this course on Father’s Day this year. Overall fairways and greens are in good condition, but the sand bunkers are not in very good shape. I’m sure this is reflected in the price, which I thing takes into account some of these deficiencies. Overall, Not bad for the price
Despite the course closing after this year, it is not being maintained enough to charge $60+.

Your feedback is extremely important to us. It is always our utmost goal to provide our golfers with a fun and enjoyable time and apologize if we missed the mark.
Nothing to wow us, sand missing
For $61, I would’ve expected more. Absolutely no sand in the sand traps, greens were iffy and areas of the course definitely could’ve used a mow and some more upkeep.
Crazy small greens and not a lot of creativity with the layout. We had fun but wasn’t too impressed
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us, u000003925980. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Red at Gleneagles Country Club!
Basic budget golf course for a quick 18 after work.
I’ve played here 5-6 times the course is pretty beat. Carts are beat, no ball washer or towels on any holes, missing hole number markers, missing flags on pins, rough is very unforgiving even 6 feet from fairways. HOWEVER it’s a fun course to play all things considered bunkers aren’t bad, greens are fairly nice. Would I come here on a Saturday for serious round probably not but would I come here for a quick 18 after work absolutely. Great course for amateur golfers big wide open fairways. Overall 4/5 simply for value.

Fairways and Greens
Fairways were in good shape, the rough was nice not real long and the greens were very nice they looked faster then they rolled and ran true. Nice day nice course nice time.

Beginner Course
If you are a beginner or just looking to have a relaxed round of golf, the Red course is fine for that. The course layout is extremely bland, short and repetitious.
Sand traps are not kept in good shape and there are virtually no yardage markers which makes it extremely difficult to judge your distances.
The greens are small which provides some challenge and they had more roll that you would expect.
Aside from one or two holes, there isn’t anything memorable about this course. It’s quite easy and the only difficulty is trying to figure out how far from the green you are.

Last Time?
Heard the course is closing so I wanted to get out there and play. Course was in decent shape. Greens were sooth and quick, rough was long, and pace was pretty good. Bunkers were a disgrace. If not for the bunkers the value would be fair, but with the bunker condition, and the 1870's carts I would say they are charging 10-15 dollars too much for a round. Would play again, but not for current rate.

Red Course
Thought that the course would have been in better shape. Needs some upgrades. Course is definitely not worth the price.

Annoying Rangers
We were well ahead of pace (30 mins or so) but the ranger felt the need to tail us around the course the majority of our round. Will never come back, would not recommend anyone coming here.
The course was in worse condition than last time I played
There has been a great deal of rain recentlyand it is still April, but the course was in rough condition. In addition to the muddy cart tracks everywhere there were many branches on the ground. There were no green signs, ball washers and very few yardage markers on the course.
They were backed up at the start because of early frost on the greens, but the pace ended up being pretty good. We finished in just over 4.5 hours on a Sunday. Years ago I played this course fairly often. It was always busy and in very good condition. I hope they take better care and restore the ciurse to where it was.
Wet Muddy and Cold
In fairness it was difficult to play and they should have been closed- it was so wet at times I had to push the cart to get down the fairway as there was no traction
Overall a nice course and great staff
Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Red at Gleneagles Country Club.
Course closing
Looks like it would have been nice back in the day. You can see it hasn’t been kept up as well since they decided to sell it to developers

Cheaper For A Reason
Very straight forward (literally.. red course is very boring and 90% of the holes are a straight shot) but in pretty rough condition right now. Reminiscent of Jackson Park on the south side. Doesn’t look like they’ve caught their stride for the season yet. Bunkers are mostly dirt and rock hard. Cheaper compared to others in the area for a reason and not worth the 10-20 bucks you’ll save over going elsewhere. The upside is pacing is great since it was totally dead on a Sunday!
