Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Solid track, very slow pace
Ruffled Feathers is a nice course and the staff was friendly. That said, there are some minor things they could address to make it a dramatically better experience. As others here have mentioned, the pace of play was really poor. We ended up playing a 5 hour round and were waiting on the group in front of us every hole. We didn’t see a Marshall the entire round and it seems to be a consistent problem based on what others have shared. There was only 1 beverage cart in service too, so we saw her twice in 5 hours.
The course was in pretty good shape, aside from the bunkers being borderline unplayable. It’s a decent place to play, but they really should take care of those minor issues, especially given the premium price.
PLEASE READ Absolute Disappointment
PLEASE READ........We play a lot of golf in the Chicagoland Area. For $104.99 this has to be the most disappointing and overpriced golf course in the area. The tee boxes were a complete nightmare. Not a flat lie or clean place to tee the ball up, almost as if the tees have been in the same spot for a week along with the weed growth. The greens were OK at best, bumpy to the hole. I think 10% of the bunkers had sand in them and the other 90% were unraked dirt....a Pete Dye Course, no sand in the bunker? We felt we got had by the 3rd hole tee box....what an unsettling feeling. For a course like this and the amount of money they charge there is no reason for the carts not to have GPS. Not only would that help the players have a better experience, but it would certainly move the players along at a rate faster than 5 hours. Overall, Steer Clear of this place. They have a lot of upkeep on their hands and just because its the only Dye Course around shouldn't allow them to charge this ridiculous fee. Don't do it. Go play the Ravines across the Street at Cog Hill. It will be a much better time and you certainly won't feel as had as we did.
Great track, sand needs work.
Course is in great shape except for the traps.
Many sand shots require rake and place. Not the end of the world.
Save your time and money, extremely disrespectful ranger
I want to start off by saying i really enjoy the layout of this course and one of the starters was really nice, but the pace of play and the price is absolutely ridiculous. I live near the area and i have played this course plenty of time, and i have never played at even a reasonable pace. The course condition isn't horrible but most of the bunkers aren't even worth hitting out of, they are practically concrete. I had to group up with the two guys in front of me because i would have been waiting 10 minutes on every tee box. We still ended up waiting on 4-5 minutes every hole. We got to 17 and the sun was beginning to set, the starter who was unbelievably nice and respectful told us it was ok to finish up. We hit our tee shots and then one of the rangers (older in age) told us that we were done and we couldn't finish the hole. While they allowed the group in front of us to tee off right after telling us to finish. We really just wanted to finish 18 and the sun didn't set yet so we teed off real quick after the group in front of us. Less then 5 minutes later while finishing up the hole the ranger was yelling at us and being very disrespectful. We were trying to be reasonable with him but he wasn't being remotely cooperative. I won't be coming back here anymore, regardless of being yelled at for finishing one hole I wouldn't come back due to price and pace of play.
Solid 4.25 stars
See my previous reviews of Ruffled Feathers earlier this season. Very improved over the last several years and I highly recommend......strong challenge for any golfer but very entertaining.....good shot values. Staff at RF are all wonderful....they go out of their way to make your day great even if you're not playing well.
Our round was marred by a two of extremely slow playing 4-somes and two some of newbies directly ahead of us playing the wrong tees.....(play a tee forward here to enjoy yourself the middle tees are still a 133 slope).. This is not the usual most weekday afternoons. Usually you can get around RF in 4 hours or under.....
Not a good experience
A6 hour round ruined a great weather day. Greens in poor shape, tee boxes are chewed up. Never saw a ranger. This is the second time this year that pace of play ruined our day. The first time we quit after 3 1/2 hour front nine
Very Challenging Course but Fair
Fun to play, the course layout is interesting. I played here a few years ago but didn’t remember there were a lot of big a55 mansions along the fairways back then. Things changed in last few years for sure. Pete Dye is a genius. The course is in a bit of rundown from its glorious days but is still in a decent shape. Whoever owning this gem needs to put more money into it.
Continued Improvement
See my other reviews of RF below. Other than some slow play we had a very nice day. Every employee you interact with have a great attitude and they want you to have a good time. Most greens were micro punched recently and will recover for some wonderful late season conditions - balls still are rolling very smoothly.. The locker room and bathrooms have been renovated and after probably 20 years of being a neglected swampy pit the hidden pot bunkerat the back of the 13th green now has sand it. And most of the other traps are decent. RF always provides good shot values and fun putting. Play it you won't be disappointed..
Fun course
Ruffled Feathers is very challenging and fun course. Has lots of water , sand traps and fescue on the front nine. The front nine is very challenging and have to keep the ball in play with the sand and water often challenging drives so. The. Back nine is more open and allows for more irons after tee shots . Fun and sporty back nine with very good greens. Will play again.
