Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Course was in excellent condition, staff was tremendous, can’t be any better.
5 & 1/2 hours to play a round.
Course play was very slow, cart girl was out of most things, including water. No water coolers on the course. Course was in good shape and overall good design.
Thank you for the review. We will share this with the team!
Poor experience
Ruffled feathers has been one of my favorite public courses in the Chicagoland area for a while. However, I’m not sure if I’ll be back soon after the pace of play debacle on 7/3. My friends and I ended up leaving after we were at the 4 hour and 15 minute mark yet had only completed 14 holes. Every single shot we had to wait 5-10 minutes. On a par 3 we were sitting next to the group in front of us as they were waiting for the group in front of them to complete the hole. There wasn’t a course attendant or ranger in site. We ended up calling the clubhouse after 11 holes to explain what was going on and they didn’t seem to care much. Someone just drove around and didn’t seem to say anything to us or the group in front of us. I understand it’s a public course over a holiday weekend, but when you’re paying $105 you’d expect the course to care a little more and at least make the effort to make the round be able to be completed in a reasonable time frame.
Terrible value
Was $105 riding. Was not crowded. Went off at 10:10, original tee time was 10:24. I share this just to showcase it was not busy. Front 9 took 2:50. Was cart path only but please…No ranger pushing anyone. Day prior chicago- land had significant rain fall. Greens were thick, inconsistent and slow. Rough was so thick with huge patches that did not drain. Tee boxes were in poor shape. Clearly, they did not mow and did not care for the course that morning. For $105 was a dump. Quit after 10 as the wait on par 3 #11 was a good 20min. If I remember I’m going to call and ask for a rain check for 9 just out of principle.
New remodel on club house looks great.

Nice day on the course
Nice conditions, few spots need attention but mostly the course was in nice shape.
Hi Lbrenase, thank you so much for the review. See you soon!
A best course ever
I recently played at this awesome golf course and the course was equipped with bells and whistles in place for challenges. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, making me feel like a VIP golfer. I'm already booked to play next week and counting down the days!!!
Thanks for the great review. We will share this with the team!
Very Challenging Course
Bunkers were unplayable, very disappointing. The rest of the course was very good, greens rolled nicely in spite of the aeration but won't go back until they fix the bunkers which they way will happen this year.
John9671157, thank you for the constructive criticism, and sorry we couldn’t make it a 5 star experience. We are always looking for ways to increase customer satisfaction and will pass your comments along to management.
Ruffled vs Cog Hill
Both were definite bucket list courses in the Chicago area but for less than 1/2 the price, Ruffled Feathers wins my vote. Also, at CH, the extra $8 for a bucket of balls for the range after a $200USD fee seemed a bit of a money grab. In addition to the money perspective, RF was in much better shape and the Pete Dye design was awesome to play.
Hi Fiddler71, that’s wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for leaving us a review. Hope you have an amazing day!
No sand in bunkers
Honesty won’t go back until they put more sand in bunkers.
Brought my father in law to a nice course I thought.
No sand ruin the whole experience

80 degrees in April!
Our group had a wonderful day at RF. For several years now RF has been on the rebound.....the clubhouse has been renovated (bathrooms and locker room, bar/restaurant) and the pro shop is being rehabbed after having some water damage issues over the winter. Nice brew selections, course nurse and convenient halfway house. Course itself is in good shape with the exception of the sand traps. The traps are edged but could use sand a refurb. Pace of play was excellent and each and everyone of the staff goes out of the way to make certain you have a great experience. Greens fee includes ranges balls with is another nice plus. Good senior value course during the week. Our group always enjoys it. Solid 4 stars plus and RF is always on our list to play multiple times each season. In fact we'll be back there in just a few days.......
Thank you HOTSPOTTS for the review! We are glad you enjoyed the experience and your comments are appreciated.
Good Pete Dye course but could be a little better
Thought it was a private course but it IS public, so I am glad I had the chance to play it. A well-designed course that could be improved a bit. The clubhouse is impressive from the outside and gives off the private club vibe. The staff was very welcoming, especially the young lady who was at check in. The place is being renovated inside so not a lot of extras were available.
For mid-April, the course is in solid shape. The one thing that stood out to was that the bunkers were bad. A couple were not sand but almost like mud, and a few hand standing water. The greens were decent and rolled well but did not look great. Plus, they had more ball marks than should be on a nice track.
In general, it is a fun course to play. Decent amount of water that could impact your round. The back nine runs through more of a residential housing complex. Many greens are elevated so you really need to fly your ball on but there also are places you can run a shot on.
No. 11 is the “signature” hole and is a typical Pete Dye layout. It is an island green that hints of #17 at TPC Sawgrass but does require precise distance control. Got lost getting to hole 12 as we missed the turn to continue on and had to turn around after we got to 17 tee. A bigger sign to go right at that spot would be nice.
Other than the bad bunkers (which should dry out) and the greens that should improve as the temperature warms up, it is a course I would love to play again.
With Cog Hill in the area (just around the corner!), the people near Lemont are lucky to have two great facilities right next to each other.
Hello CharlesEmerson, thank you for your feedback. We’re happy to know that you’ve had a great experience with us and look forward to your next visit.
Thank you for the great rating, StevePistol. We’d love to learn more about what we did to earn it!
Great March 1 Round
Beautiful day. Course was cart path only and it had to be. There was a lot of water in the course but the course was very playable. Greens were in really good shape for March 1.
u660178534, we’re so happy to hear you had a good experience. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Slow play and no one moving thing along
My title says it all. A 5 hour and 20 minute round.
No pace no tempo. Just a 5-7 minute wait on every hole. Not fun.
Hi u740707236, thank you for sharing your feedback. We apologize for the longer wait times during your round. We appreciate your patience and will work on improving the pace and tempo for a more enjoyable experience in the future.
Nice course for a Hot deal.
The course layout is average. Plenty of sand traps. Pace of play was great. Snce we played on a Sunday 92 degree day at 106pm the course was not crowded. The group before and behind use were both 2 holes apart. Enjoyed the island Par 3.
Hi u314162716803, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the pace of play and the unique challenge of the island Par 3. We appreciate your input regarding the course layout and will take it into consideration.
Bad experience
This course has long been one of my favorite public courses in the Chicagoland area. However, my recent experience makes me not want to be back anytime soon. We played in the afternoon on 7/3. Their had been a ton of rain and we expected the course to be wet and it was in better condition than we could have thought. Our problem was the pace of play. In the afternoon over a holiday weekend I’d expect a round to take a little longer than usual. However, this was absolutely ridiculous. We ended up leaving after 14 holes because we were staring at the group in front of us waiting to tee off because the group ahead of them had just drove up to their balls. This was at the 4 hour and 15 minute mark of our round. Every single hole this seemed to be the case where we’d wait 10 minutes (at least) to hit shots. We called the clubhouse on 11 to send someone out to see why the entire course was being held up as we didn’t see a Marshall through the entire duration. They came out on 12 and seemed to just drive by without saying a word to any group. We expected this round to take a bit longer than a normal weekend but we were staring at 5.5 hour round and for $105 this seems absolutely ridiculous. The course didn’t seem to care that every group was waiting 10-15 minutes both off the tee and for their approaches.
