Wolf Hollow Golf Club
About
Wolf Hollow Golf Club originally opened in 1928 as Lena Golf Club. The course tumbles across northwest Illinois' gently rolling hills, incorporating quite a few elevation changes into the layout. The golf course has a true risk-reward design that will thoroughly test your shot-making abilities. With proper course management and a bit of luck, there are several birdie opportunities to be had. Measuring in at just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, the course manages to give you a few lengthy holes but it will also put your short-game skills to the test. The 16th is one of Wolf Hollow Golf Club's most intimidating holes because this par 4 has trouble everywhere. A creek and tall grasses guard the left of the fairway and the small green requires a nearly perfect approach shot.

out in the country
what a beautiful day in the country regardless what we shot!
Playing conditions
This is a nice course. However the condition of the greens have deteriorated over the past several years. Hopefully they will get the greens back to their previous level. Now they are nearly unplayable. Sad.
GOOD TIME
Course in good shape, do'nt know about traps i did'nthit in any of them.
Hot and humid!
It was so hot and humid but well worth the drive oou in the country.
Challenging Cousre!!
Couple holes are truly one of a kind!! A lot of blind drives & hidden greens which makes for a fun experience.
Based on Golf Advisor ratings, we made a weekend trip of golf courses around Rockford, IL. This was a good course with plenty of elevation changes and a good variety of holes.
CONDITIONS: Despite the drought going on in Summer 2023, the course was in decent shape. Many greens have large ridges/tiers and around those areas (where water drains away) they were starting to get bare. Also, the fairways/rough/tee boxes were very firm (presumably from drought). Given the weather conditions this course is playable, but it feels like the course needs a big drink of water.
VALUE: Played on a Hot Deal, which absolutely made this course a good deal.
LAYOUT: This course plays up, down, and across ridges on the property. We started on the back 9 (see below) and I’m glad that was our experience. Otherwise holes #1 thru #4 are long and demanding. It was nice to be warmed up for those. Two of the par 3s are fun downhill shots. Holes #9 and #18 are both dogleg left par 5s that use the same ridge as a challenge. The variety of the par 4s was such that I used every club in my bag. Though we took a cart, I would walk this course next time.
STAFF: Incredible. We went out after an outing and the gentleman in the pro shop was aware of enough to know he had a league later that afternoon. As such, he sent us off on #10 to avoid that and our pace/experience was fantastic. Thank you!
PACE: As noted, going out after an outing and having the pro shop start us on #10 as a 2some we finished in just under 3 hours. Fantastic!
I would play Wolf Hollow again… especially after it gets some rain.
Greens in bad shape
Always love to come back to this course. Great layout and views. Good memories of previous rounds including my hole-in-one in 2010.
This time, the greens were in terrible shape. Very slow and mold and dead grass all around. Not sure what is happening here but it will be hard to get it back in shape.
Please do what you can to fix. I would like to keep this course on my list of favorites in the area.
Enjoyable April golf
Staff is excellent, course in good shape for time of year. Enjoy playing the course
