Wolf Hollow Golf Club
About
Wolf Hollow Golf Club originally opened in 1928 as Lena Golf Club. The course tumbles across northwest Illinois' gently rolling hills, incorporating quite a few elevation changes into the layout. The golf course has a true risk-reward design that will thoroughly test your shot-making abilities. With proper course management and a bit of luck, there are several birdie opportunities to be had. Measuring in at just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, the course manages to give you a few lengthy holes but it will also put your short-game skills to the test. The 16th is one of Wolf Hollow Golf Club's most intimidating holes because this par 4 has trouble everywhere. A creek and tall grasses guard the left of the fairway and the small green requires a nearly perfect approach shot.

Great course
4th of July was great. Great course great condition.
Friendly Course
This is the third time I’ve played at Wolf Hollow and it rarely disappoints. Playing on a holiday weekend poses it’s own issues and even with paying to play 18 with a cart, it was even cheaper than other 9 hole courses. We ended up playing 9 holes with a moderately slow Memorial Day weekend pace. It wasn’t unexpected, I plan on coming back sooner than later on a more player friendly occasion.
4.75 Stars
Almost perfect in every way Wolf Hollow is worth a trip and several trips back. Wonderful topography and routing. Excellent conditions, nice folks, fun challenging golf holes and great rates. $30 w/cart during the week and lunch is included (hot or brat, chips, soda). Steal of the year!! Big uphill finishers on each nine. Highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed and it's well worth the drive. Play Wolf Hollow and others in the area Freeport Club, Park Hills (36), Woodbine Bend, Lake Carroll and home made Brush Creek9 - don't bother playing those overpriced Galena resort courses. Great bangs for your golf buck in NW Illinois. Can't wait to return next year!!
Great setting
Played this course with an old friend who just moved here from Utah. We've known each other for about 45 years and worked and played a lot of golf together in California; mostly private clubs like Bel Air CC, Calabasas CC, Mountaingate CC and Riviera CC, where he was a 7Hcp member. This review is as much his as mine. Being an Illinois native, I am used to the landscape, while he was amazed by the setting. Among rolling hills and elevation changes, he loved the surrounding cornfields, noting the distant windmills farm and wild prairie grasses. It suits my eye he says, the fairways and greens were in excellent shape. Me being 70 yrs and he 81 yrs, he shot his age for the first time the week before. We'll be back many times.
Maybe the best value course in US
Excellent conditions, good design and challenging greens for $20 including cart!! (Yes it was a special, but regular weekday rate was $30 including lunch as well)
Wolf Hollow is a fun and semi-challenging course that could easily charge much more if it was closer to a larger population. It’s not a championship caliber course, but a great example of the type of course we need more of. Course makes great use of rolling terrain with few holes playing level. Fairways are usually either guarded by native grasses or clumps of trees, but the playing corridors are generally reasonably generous. The greens are usually sloped and have a number of ridges and plateaus to provide interesting pin positions and provide additional defense against scoring. Holes 4 (downhill dogleg right with a pinched fairway), 8 (long par 3 guarded by a front left pond) and 16 (short dogleg left par 4 which requires accuracy off the tee) are the highlights. Only semi-weak stretch is holes 12-15 which are routed over flat land, but the greens continue to be a challenge. Be sure to check out the carving of a wolf to the right on #15 green.
Will definitely play here again.
Nice Course
Course very well conditioned. Nice layout. Plenty challenging. Some significant elevation differences. Carts in very good condition. Didn’t use the food or bar amenities so can’t rate.
Excellent Course
Beautiful course with great conditions. A lot of variety with no two holes the same. Greens in wonderful shape, rolling true with good pace. Great views everywhere on the course. Definitely worth the 1 1/2 hour drive! Will play here again.
Every hole is different. Greens were in great shape.
Enjoyed the course and round. Except for the thundershower on a 5 % chance of rain day.
