Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
About
Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport stretches across 237 acres of gently rolling hills covered with native prairie grass. The course has a links-style layout that can play much tougher depending on the wind speed that day. Overall though, the course is player friendly enough for any skill level. The layout is open with few trees and the fairways are wide and forgiving, taking away some of the intimidation provided by the bordering rough. There is also water on the golf course, but the hazards that come into play aren't overly strenuous. You can still expect some challenges from the minimal but strategically placed bunkering. Besides the golf course, Prairie Bluff is known as one of the area's hidden gems for its outstanding restaurant, which is known especially for the barbecue brisket.

Reviews
Great staff and great layout
Had a great time the rough was a little high due to rain but fairways and greens were excellent
Thank you for the great feedback! We love hearing from you and are glad you had a good experience. We would love the opportunity to bump those 4 stars to 5. We hope you will come back soon so we can WOW you on your next visit. Until then, take care!
Challenges, but fairly laid out
The fairways are in great shape now (May), and the greens are in reasonable condition. A few doglegs and blind greens challenge you enough to keep it interesting. Pace of play is steady at ~8 minutes a hloe, but not rushed.

Great Course, Great Condition
I have been wanting to play Prairie Bluff for quite some time. I was able to get Hot Deal in GolfNow for $23 + fee on a Friday morning. The course is very wide open as it is a links style. However, there are a solid number of water hazards throughout the course. Prairie Bluff instantly became on of my favorites in the Southwest Suburbs. Will definitely be back, but might not want to pay the $65 to play on the weekends.

Slowwwww
Incredibly slow play. 3rd time playing there. All 6 hour rounds
Hi aneri, thank you for reviewing the course. We sincerely apologize for the delay of play during your round as this is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With an uncharacteristically full day, we work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and allow our guests the chance to complete their rounds. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve by using your comments as guidance! Thank you for playing Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon!
Thanks so much for rating your experience with us! We hope to see you again soon and earn that final star!

Great course!
Must play if you want a fair challenge. When the wond is blowing the course can play extremwly tough. Greens were in great shape and rolled very true. All the fairways were in great shape as well!
Hello, JP2009. Thank you for your 5-star rating! Please book another round with us soon.
This is a really nice course. The course was in great condition especially considering the weather that we’ve had the past few months. The greens were ok. Clearly the greens have aerated sometime recently and there are still some effects from that on putting. Overall it’s a pretty challenging course. Miss the fairway and you’ll be punished by the rough. The rough is long but it seems to be by design which I liked. Beware of a few hidden water hazards just out of view but within reach off the tee. Wish they had a beverage cart out. It was 90+ and extremely humid. Overall I really enjoyed the course. I’ll definitely be playing there again. Hopefully in some less extreme heat.
Thank you for your review. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Good Test
Very good golf course. Pretty good condition. Extremely difficult if the wind blows more than 15 mph.
Great late fall round
This course is in really good shape. We benefited from the fescue being cut down but I really appreciated a wider rough to catch the ones that just missed the fairway. As the starter pointed out, this links style course has few trees so very few leaves so balls were easy to find. Only lost one and that was in water. Well designed, FUN course to play. Can't wait to play it in the summer
Course condition
This course is always in tip top shape. There are always alot of workers on the course. If you are looking to play a golf course that is fair and beautiful this is the place!
Nice course, not nice staff
The course is nice, and it was in really good shape, especially for mid-September. Had great weather, the food is good. That's all the good stuff.
Now the bad. The rangers here are a real pain. I understand the need to keep things moving and having golfed for over 30 years, I know all about pace of play, and make sure I keep up. But our foursome are all high handicappers, (only one of us broke 100). So guess what? It takes us longer to play than a group of single digit guys. Plus, with the morning sun and dew, early on it was hard to see a ball in the rough that would normally be easy to spot. Repeatedly telling us to "catch up" is not going to make us play better or find our balls faster. Yes, the group ahead of us pulled away, but we never even SAW the group behind us, so we weren't slowing anyone down. Especially aggravating is waiting for the girl at the halfway house to take 5 minutes to get us 4 hot dogs, than being told to play faster because the guys in front of us were on the 10th green. Again, even at this point we didn't see anyone behind us, so what's the rush?
This course needs to understand there's a difference between keeping up and slowing people down. In our case, we weren't doing either. We finished our round in 4:10.
Also, we had more terrible service for our post round beer/apps. Never got asked if we wanted a 2nd beer, had to go to the bar to get a water refill, had to flag down the waitress/bartender to get our bill, then had to go to the bar to pay it after it became evident she was never coming back.
This course could have a 4.5 star review if it wasn't for the people working there. As it is, I'll be hesitant to come back. My advice to management, why don't you station a ranger in the snack bar and bar area to make sure your staff "keeps pace"? You might consider limiting your course to only single digit handicappers as well if getting people through quickly is more important to you that ensuring EVERYONE enjoys their round.
