Don't play

Took 5 and half hours for 18 holes, no rangers, fairways in terrible shape. Bad spots all over, bunkers were either little sand of mud. Never going back again.

Big Run needs big maintenance

Haven been out here, was mildly eager to play knowing it's established with BIG trees, it didn't disappoint with that, but the track is in serious need of some TLC, greens were great, fairways decent, rough was obnoxious long. I lost several balls that were less than 10' off the fairways, extremely thick, many places unplayable. Clubhouse is definitely showing its age, it's clearly in search of a new owner (heard this coarse is for sale). They're doing the bare minimum to get by, no rangers for pace, and no beverage cart at all. Spend the extra $20 and play elsewhere until it's under new ownership.

Good potential

They intentionally keep the rough extremely long, if you miss a fairway you lose your ball. The day I played the course was also flooded after some rain the day before leaving certain areas inaccessible. We were not allowed to take out a cart despite paying for it in the reservation, so we walked.

Fair, needs work

I booked a Tee time via GolfNow that included a cart. I arrived to the course and was told it was walking only due to the rainfall. I was told I could not receive a refund because I booked through GolfNow. That being said, the course was in decent shape other than the rough. The rough was not well maintained. Other than that, the course was fun to play and very challenging. Friendly staff. However, I should have received a refund.

Everything you've read is correct bad cart paths high rough all can be dealt with but 6 hours is way to long for an early Sunday round..

Love Hate

This is a difficult review because the course is above my skill level for the tee boxes they have. I am 65 so the days of 6500-7000 yard courses being enjoyable are slim unless the course is flat with little trouble, That is not the case here. Course is beautiful with many elevation changes making one 600 yard hole play more like 650. Course was maintained well except for the rough and cart paths. As difficult as this course is the rough shouldn't be a forest. Cart paths were horrible with potholes and tree root damage galore. Loved the course itself, hated the length, rough and cart paths.

Rough roughs

Grass was not mowed well. Fairway felt like the rough. Roguh felt like a grassland. If you hit your ball in the rough, good luck finding it in that tall grass. No beverage cart or water throughout the course. Not worth $75. Staff was very friendly, though.

Awesome Day at Big Run

Have not played Big Run in couple of years but I will be playing here more often. Greens are in perfect shape, course is beautiful, design of course is wonderful, bunkers solid. Good old school atmosphere. Cart paths are rough but otherwise this course is an absolute treat.

Best challenge in the southwest of Chicago area

Play here if you want to use all your clubs. Long, hilly, beautiful course was a pleasure to play. Not many golfers there due to significant rain leading up to our morning tee time. Course was in great shape.

Poor conditions

I understand fall golf with leaves on the ground but you’re still paying a pretty good price golf! No ball washers and if your ball rolls off the fairway into the rough considerate it gone! The rough was 5-6 inches long covered with leaves, everyone on the course was looking for their balls!

My Round at Big Run

I have always viewed Big Run as one of my favorite courses in the Chicagoland area. It is not flat as are so many other courses and has a great layout. The course was very well maintained and even with the leaves falling, it was still in great shape to play. At almost seventy and not wanting to go to the senior tees, it may be getting a bit too hard for me to score well there. However, I still enjoy playing the experience of playing there and the challenge it presents.
