Old Oak Country Club
About
Old Oak Country Club is situated only 20 minutes from Chicago, but the beautifully wooded terrain shaded by mature oaks and hickory trees, makes it feel as though it's much further away. Originally opened in 1926, the golf course is one of the area's oldest and even one of the oldest in the state. It has undergone many renovations over the years but it still retains its classic character. The layout offers plenty of variety with drivable par 4s and lengthy par 5s. The rolling topography provides many of the golf course's challenges, from the rolling fairways and undulating greens to the elevated tees and blind shots. Mature trees tower over the fairways, adding another tricky element to the golf course. Old Oak Country Club is challenging but fair and still quite playable, which is why it has long been a local favorite.

Beautiful, challenging, fair
I have not played Old Oak in a few years and always pleasantly surprised what a great course it is nestled in the community. Challenging but not ridiculously so... great hole designs and upkeep. My only complaint were the lack of yardage markers on the course. Plenty of sprinkler heads but the yardage faded away so you can't read them.
Also they have a great practice facility as well.
Can't wait to play again.
Great for March
Course was in great condition for March 2024, pace of play was a little slow but not terrible, i will be back again.
Fall golf
Course is great condition. A little over priced. Staff okay. Starter was the only one with a personality, good.
Too Slow to Recommend
Course layout is nice. Greens and fairways are in rough shape right now, overheard the staff there talking about basically cutting all upkeep since they’re winding down for the season. Pace of play was brutal. 4.5 hours to play 14 holes. We gave up on the 14th after calling the pro shop asking for a ranger to come and were told “I don’t think we have anyone to come out”. Plenty of other options in the area, maybe skip this one.
Unprofessional
I paid for 18 holes and the ranger said car path only. I crossed the field one time from carpath to carpath only to get to the other side and the ranger lied that we did it on the last hole aswell. He limited us to 9 holes as there was still 30 minutes left to finish the course.
Poor treatment
Only played this course a few times but won't go back anytime soon. Staff is rude and unfriendly, GM does not respond to customer complaints. Very much seems like a good ole boys club, not family friendly.
Pace of play
First time in 65 years that I walked off the course while playing 18.The pace of play was horrendous! On the 15th hole there were five groups. One on the green, one in the fairway, one on the women’s tee, one on the back tees, and then me. It backed up gradually beginning on hole number 10. So while standing around on 15, I decided it wasn’t worth it to wait on each of the remaining holes, so I left. Where was the marshal?
Nice but very slow
Played thursday mid day 4:50 minute round way too slow multiple slower groups in front needed to have ranger move them along but was of no help
2 leagues not disclosed till first tee
There were two leagues this night that ruined the pace of play and didn’t know about the leagues until driving to the first tee box. Played 2 holes in an hour, 10 holes in 3.5. Actual course is fine but would’ve liked to know about leagues before paying/booking
Challenging Layout
Very difficult if you can’t find the narrow fairways and then you must be in the proper position or you’re blocked by overhanging tree limbs. It wasn’t an enjoyable round and I hit the ball fairly well.
Challenging course but slow
Played twilight on Sun, which was a great value. Much nicer than expected, great conditions, beautiful layout. Not long by any means but very challenging with well guarded greenside bunkers, difficult undulations, and strategic pin locations on most holes. Back nine started to back up and eventually piled up with 3 groups waiting to tee off on the 17th. I don’t remember seeing one marshall on the course, they need to do a better job regulating. Otherwise, overall impressed with the course
