Manteno Golf Club

Played the course on Sunday, then went back on Monday again as it was in great condition. The pace of play on Labor Day was terrible. Needed the ranger to do something, but all he seemed to do was drive around in his cart and not push the pace of play.

This course is great for the average golfer. It is wide open. So, you don't have to go wandering through a lot of brush every time you put a ball slightly left or right. Now, if you are a scratch golfer, you might think this course is too easy. But, for the rest of us, it is more fun to play at a place like this. Greens are very green and watered. Fairways are reasonably hard for this time of year and give you that extra yard or two. If you are into junk food, get the fried platter on the turn, yum. Beer and food are quite reasonable compared to most courses. I will be back, again!

Located in Manteno, this is your typical small town local course. I golf here Thursday nights, and whenever it's cheap. Challenging course. Could be maintained a little better. Fairways, tee boxes, and greens could definitely need a little TLC. What do you expect for the price though? Where it shines is on the 19th hole. Beer is cheap, food is excellent and the staff is friendly. Say hello to the greatest Scottish lass this side of the pond, Pauline, and get the Scottish word of the day. Squint hard enough, and you would think you just finished a round at St. Andrews.

Fairways in o.k. shape. Pretty forgiving.
Greens moderately undulating and in excellent shape.

Everything was great except the sand in the traps was very compact and hard. Could not hit out of them properly.

Some holes were difficult. Greens and Tees maintained very well. Some parts of the fairways the ground was hard due to no rain.

Not too crowded. Great pace of play. Course in good condition. Greens are pretty flat. Some greens are a little burned but it is to be expected with the heat lately. Hole 11 is a very unique hole with a narrow shot off the tee to a 90 degree left dogleg. A hard hole but fun. Staff is great.

This was a fun course to play. Easy to get around but bumpy ride. Greens were clean but slow. Not many markers for distance especially on the 11th hole dog leg with a parking lot at the turn. Worried to go too far and bash in a window. We enjoyed our time though and the value was the best part. For fun and relaxation a good place to go and enjoy a round and a few beers.
