6 hour torture fest
6 hours for a round of golf?!?
Have played this course numerous times with my sons but sadly Sunday was the last time we will play there. To make matters worse, the Ranger was part of the problem and not solution. He was abusive to my sons for playing the blue tees (9 and 11 handicap respectively) arguing we were the reason for slow play, despite the fact we waited EVERY shot (no lie)
The new amenities are beautiful but this place has lost its focus on what is important…golf.
Overall Very Positive
Played on Sunday at 1:30. I was really concerned over the repeated pace of play reviews, but my first visit to Oak Brook warrants nothing less than 4 to 4.5 stars. I'll save pace of play for last.
Course Conditions: Excellent. Greens roll true, bunkers are soft with 2 rakes on most of them.
Staff Friendliness: Pro shop/starter/bartenders helpful and happy to be there.
Value For The Money: $80 in Chicagoland or anywhere these days can mean poorly maintained tee boxes, uncut fairways, sloppy rough, hard bunkers (or lack thereof), bumpy greens. Experienced the complete opposite on all accounts here.
Off-Course Amenities: The property rivals the top 15 Chicagoland public courses in the area and here's why. Grass driving range is MASSIVE. Absolutely massive. The restaurant/bar appears to have been recently renovated and feels more like a sports bar with the TV/fireplace set up. There's a huge patio outside just off of the 9th green, with a walk-up window to pickup drinks and full menu items that can be ordered from the cart. I counted at least five water coolers during our round, too.
Pace of Play/Course Layout: It was the perfect 80 degree day, course fully booked, 1:30 tee time. I understand everyone's experience will be different. The layout is beginner friendly and also poses challenges, but inevitably results in slow play to start. Long straight par 5, followed by a semi-long par 3 and a boomerang shaped par 5. If groups are self-accountable (and they were on Sunday), the foursomes will be on top of each other for holes 1-4 but naturally disperse as the course starts to open up (particularly on the back). Under 5 hours for a Sunday afternoon. I won't complain too much about that.
Slow
No rangers push play People in front were giving lessons ext…
Nice course but won’t play again
Pace of play was absolutely horrible and no ranger to keep things moving. Also, no beverage cart on the course on a beautiful Saturday. Definitely not worth the price tag for a 5.5 hour round and no beverage cart. Much better options out there for that kind of golf experience.
Oakbrook Golf Course
I played Oakbrook golf course yesterday and had a good round overall. The play was slightly slow although the marshal tried to move everyone ahead. I course is good shape although the greens needs some more work and good weather but overall fine. Oakbrook fairways are not overly challenging but maybe 3-4 holes but the greens are much more challenging than most courses. The greens are heavily sloped and putting up or down hill can be a challenge. Overall nice course good price for seniors or residents and for those walking on not so bad. Good course nice people and good reasonable priced food Ii would recommend.
