Well maintained
This course is very well maintained. On a perfect Saturday in September, wasn't too busy at all. It is a fairly simple, not-too-exciting course for the price, but the tee boxes, greens and fairways are all in great shape. Was very easy to get to from downtown Chicago.
love it
I love this challenging course. There are trees, water and some long holes. Course is always well maintained.
Bang for your buck!
This is usually my go to place. The staff is always really friendly and it's a good course for the money. Greens were a little slow this time because of the rain the night before but still in good condition. The rate of play was also very good considering it rained and the local high school team was practicing. A great beginners course as well as a veteran. All around a very well established and maintained facility.
Best park district course
This place has it all. Well kept wide open fairways, guarded greens, tough pin positions, plenty of trees, driving range, putting green, chipping green w/sand trap, bar, pro shop etc etc.
Wedgewood
The course value from Golfmow is great and the course was in great shape. I miss the big trees lost to the storms. Staff is super friendly and the bar is really nice.New carts are cool.
Too Long To Play for Just 14 Holes
Took over 5 hours to play just 14 holes. Stopped playing at 15. 3 groups ahead of us took forever. The ranger was out earlier in the day and asked us at hole 11 if we wanted to go to the 15th hole but we paid over fifty dollars for this day and wanted to play all 18 holes.
Quick 18
I was the 2nd person off in the morning and played in 2 hours. Course was in decent shape in spite of the piles of rain we've had recently. Greens were in excellent shape but rolling slow...again, probably a result of lots of rain. Course has a nice layout with good variety. Nice mix of easier holes and more challenging ones. Overall, I was pleasently surprised, and will play again.
Wet weekend
The Sunday afternoon price was way more than I wanted to pay, but I was on a tight schedule and I could'nt wait for the cheaper twilight rate. I know this course has great deals during the week so next time I golf there it will be twilight or weekday. They had alot of rain and it showed throught the course. Most bunkers had 2-3 feet of standing water and low lying areas were swamps. I was happy that they let us use carts despite all the rain they got.
Course was in very good condition
This is a great course for the money. The course was in very good condition comparison to some of the other courses in the area. I will definitely play again.
Wedgewood
As always a great place to play as a single or in a foursome the pace is always good and the conditions of the course are always good especially for a public course.
reduced rate
We got reduced rate as they had just aerated the greens 2 days before we played -which was ok but had we known this prior we might have played else where-not that it really matters as winter has been so long in leaving the grass is barely growing-other issues were that other golfers must have been still playing winter rules as no one was raking bunkers or fixing divots-so for early season golf it was ok if this were later in season I wouldn't go back......
Old school classic golf
This is a tough review to write. I absolutely love this golf course. Nice variety of open and tight holes, enough water to get your attention but not overly penal, you will use every club in your bag if you play the correct tees and it is very pleasing to the eye. However, conditions are hit and miss. Play after a tournament and it is as good as it gets with fast and true greens. Other times the greens can be a little slow and th bunkers inconsistent.
One pet peeve I have is when park district courses have leagues or high school teams playing. I have played the front in 1.5 hours only to have leagues/high schools going off the front so they send new golfers off the back 9. A couple groups waiting on the 10th tee and more golfers on the back 9. If you have a nice pace and rhythm going, it gets completely disrupted.
All that said, I still highly recomnd this course because the layout is as good as it gets. The 13th is one of the most challenging par 3s you will ever play while two of the par 5s are easily reachable for better players. I have experienced a few slow rounds in the 4 1/2 to 4 3/4 range, but it is not the norm.
If you love classic golf courses, you owe it to yourself to give Wedgewood a shot.
GREAT COURSE: GOOD LOCATION: REASONALABLE PRICE
WELL MAINTAINED, Par 3 13th very tough, Par 5's challenging, all around very good public course with friendly employees
Over 3 hours for 9 holes.
Played on a Saturday. Course was nice enough but the pace of play was intolerable. Almost 4 hours for 9 holes. We were treated poorly when staff heard it was a golf now booking when we inquired about the slow play. Definitely would not recommend.
Greens in rough shape
The greens were not in the best shape. They had big divots all over them. They decided to turn on sprinklers during play and saturated the greens. Maybe worth $20 and no more.
The course is great and well-maintained
I would golf here again! Pace was good. Nice and green.
Good course, wide open
This is the first time playing here and it is a really nice course. The course is wide open, but don't let that fool you, anything not in the fairway is trouble.
The greens are smooth but very tricky, like they are set up for tournament play.
Overall nice course
It was a little slow on the front nine, but it opened up on the back nine.
The course was in good shape & the greens were very smooth.
Overall a good course
Too many players using push cart on weekends. Slows down pace of play.
