Great layout
Love to play this course. Plenty of challenges if you miss the fairway. Course is in great shape. Well maintained. Friendly staff.
Nice course but it was wet !
They had a lot of rain recently & it was cart path only but all in all nice course will go back some day to play it in better conditions ! We met the future owner real nice guy & I hope things go well for him !
Wolf Creek is ready for you.
A pleasant surprise awaited me today at Wolf Creek GC in Pontiac, IL. Following a series of rainy days, including another 0.5 inches last night, I expected the course to be much wetter than it was. If I stayed on the cart path (I was walking), I had no problems staying relatively dry. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are in excellent shape. If your ball strays into the rough (as mine has a tendency to do), you won't find it half of the time. Thanks for a great golf experience at this beautiful course.
Fun and challenging
Great course with very few golfers. A nice pace-of-play in a relaxing setting. Large greens, that were fast and soft today. Water comes into play on 10 holes, but very few sand traps. Great layout that has a good balance between easy and challenging hole. This is a must golf!
beautiful but wet
the course was perfect after many days of rain and still well kept. first nine was very slow being behind a slow foursome but they wouldn't let anyone by, thank goodness they stopped after nine and we had great day after them.
Don’t waste your time and money!
If you’re not a member you get treated like an outsider! Had to wait 30 minutes to tee off even though nobody was on the tee box for the whole 30 minutes ???
Needs intermediate tees
This course can be a lot of fun to play. However, they really need to create a set of tees between their back tees and their senior tees. Most golfers don't hit far enough to play their back tees, but on the other hand the senior tees are too short for them.
Also, the 14th green is just too extremely sloped. It stops being comical after the first couple of times you play here. It's just a bad design. Some basic re-contouring couldn't cost all that much and would be a huge improvement.
These two changes, which would cost very little in the scheme of things, would go a long way towards satisfying the needs of the recreational golfer.
The fairways are in rough shape right now due to summer stress. You should plan on needing to improve your lie. The greens are in very good shape, as usual. We enjoy playing here, it's challenging and a good value.
The grill room sandwiches are very good. We look forward to them.
Just a Great Time
Have heard about this course from my club pro years ago but have not had the time to play until now. I am 62 and played from the back tees. Not a long course, not too narrow, but you had to hit shots to score. Almost every club used in the bag. Some great risk reword holes and quite a bit of sand. It is worth to note the sand is of great consistent quality. Most greens were small and most had undulation. They putted true. Plenty of trees make this a beautiful course. Good enough to make me write about it. Enjoy
Best In Area
My foursome plays 15 to 20 courses in this area each year including Weaver Ridge. It doesn't have Weaver Ridge's amenities but it is a far better course. It is better maintained...far better. It is by far the best course within 60 miles. Outstanding value even without the discount we used this time. Superior and fast greens, rough is playable and fair, fairways obviously kept watered and perfectly groomed...and the cart paths though mostly gravel are smooth and like the rest of course well maintained. Staff is very friendly as are the regulars.
Quality Older Course
Wolf Creek struck me as a quality older course. The greens were in good condition, fast, and had a challenging amount of contour. I don't remember having any putts of 3' or more that were flat. The fairways were average width. The course has plenty of trees, so if you are wild off the tee you will probably find yourself needing to punch-out a few times. The fairways and rough were in good shape. The course has a few creeks/water on maybe six holes. I don't recall seeing any sand-traps on the course. Most of the tee-boxes had just be aerated the day we played. I think they will be fine in a couple of days.
We drove about 45 minutes to get to the course. We played 18 with a cart for $19.50 per person (that price includes GolfNow's fee). For that price I would be will to drive to Wolf Creek again to play.
Awesome as usual
I used to live near here and played it fairly regularly. It has changed only slightly and for the better. When I started there was no watering - now there is. The holes haven't changed. The greens are among the fastest in the state - probably a 12 - and sloped. I love them. Holes dog both left and right. This is a $50 course located in such a rural area that the price is way too low. Excellent value for money.
One of, if not the best in Cent. Illinois( within 60 miles of Peoria)
Couldn't ask for a better maintained course. The gravel cart paths were
perfectly groomed. The greens were very fast but true like putting on carpet as were the fairways. The rough was cut short and fair(could actually find your ball without much effort unlike many in the area). Front nine starts out fairly easy, thus the somewhat challenging difficulty rating, but gets tougher with the the back nine being very challenging! $14 was in addition to prepaid discount card.
A Water Mess
Cart path only on the front nine should have been cart path on entire course. Many drives hit puddles in the middle of the fairway and just plugged. Course conditions were such that the course should have probably been closed for a couple of days so the course could have dried out. Frustrating
Happy golfer
We enjoyed golfing on this course and was surprised when a few fellows let us pass by since we were seniors-We will return even though it is an hour drive, we feel it it well worth it and we got a discount thru GOLFNOW.com
