Nice, but Tough
What a difference the new owners have made to this course. Very good condition. A little long for the average golfer....challenging but fun. Nice course.
Big change
This course has def had some maintenance since last time I played here. Thank you!!!!
I liked playing this course
Played this course for the first time and was impressed by the condition and layout of the course. I can't wait to go back
good course. and great value
I always enjoy Willow Pond. Very pleasant and fun golfing.
Good course at a good price
I like this course. Long course for amateur play but it is in above average condition. For the price, it was a good value. I will play there again with friends.
was a good golf day
You can't beat the price. It gives me an opportunity to play a course I would not normally play at.
Willow Pond is a great course that will test every golfer!
Due to a very dry summer Willow Pond was in very good shape. The greens putt very true and the speed was quicker than most in the area. Holes 4,5 & 6 are the toughest three hole stretch in cental Illinois. If you like golf and freindly people Willow Pond is a great choice.
Golf beyond Thunderdome
Ever wondered what golf would be like after the apocalypse? Come play a round at Willow Pond to find out. Located on an abandoned U.S. Air Force base, which closed in 1993, the drive in to the course gives the player a feel for what they are going to encounter. Empty, decaying, damaged buildings, and weeds given free reign to grow wildly. The "clubhouse," if you can find it, fits right in to this scenario, and looks like it may also be abandoned. Check out the dilapidated structure to the right of the 2nd green. It may have been some kind of observation/anti-aircraft post at one point. Ahh, history. The course itself is bland and fairly easy. The grass height on the tees and fairways is too high. The bunkers are rock hard. The greens are medium speed and not terrible, which is as close to a compliment as I can give this place. Surprisingly, there were quite a few people on the course. I kept expecting to see Mad Max ride up with a band of his warriors, but had to settle for the beer-swilling locals.
